I am a buddhist by birth and everyday I thank my parents for first introducing me to The Buddha. ....getting to know this exalted path is like winning life's lottery. 🙏
Not by birth for me, but for a long while now a Buddhist, and I agree Yasho. Sometimes going back to simple clear concise words like this, can clear up old confusion, or illustrate things forgotten or not fully heard prior. Gassho Jikai
Buddha is a name given to a human being who explained the reason for our suffering. It’s in a way common sense, something many people are lack of. Buddha was born a Prince. A real royal prince with wealth, but he wasn’t happy. He realised that there’s much more to life than simply enjoying his wealth. We’ve learnt a lot from Buddha’s philosophy. He suffered after giving up his royal life in order to find the truth about life and how to end the suffering. I know, just as many Buddhists do, life is suffering and the only way to end the suffering is to end rebirth by adhering to the advice given by Buddha.
Yes. He definitely was compassionate. My prayer is to be reborn to meet future Buddha, so that I will be able to seek refuge and end the suffering of samsara.
Thank you Doug. This is very clearly explained, about Supreme Buddha. As a Buddhist, I believe out of all the beings in existence, there is no other being with comparable qualities like of a Buddha. I am grateful for being able to learn from Supreme Buddha's teachings even today. This is a rare oppurtunity for human beings 🙏🏻
Hi, Doug. Thanks to your videos I have been studying the Pali texts for the last six months or so and it has really deepened my practice. Thanks for another good post!
I was thinking off a thing. Is it possible that buddha was demanding and stteight foward in hes approach to the monastics followers? I gett this image when reding about Buddha.
Buddhism was allegedly brought to Alexandria, Egypt, and the Middle East in the 3rd century when Mauryan Emperor Ashoka's decree sent missionaries from India. There is a theory showing the likelihood that Hellenistic Jews who studied Buddhism using Greek texts translated from Pali played a role in developing early Christianity. Legends about Buddha's birth and life have many parallels with those about the gospel Jesus.
Hello Doug! I'm new to your channel and I really love the contents in your videos. I am curious about what Dharanis and Mantras are in Buddhism; for example, the most well-known one is Om mani padme hum. I find that some people believe that those Dharanis or mantras are magical in a way that, by chanting them, could protect you from evil, or cure illness, or increase good karma and lessen bad karma, or help beings in lower realms to be at peace, etc. which I find too supernatural for me. I would like to know what you have to say about this, about the original purposes and the meanings of these Dharanis/Mantras in early Buddhism. Thank you!
Well mantras didn't play much of a role in early practice, and the one you cite is from later Buddhism. While the Buddha might have thought such things could have magical effects (something I am skeptical of as well), they aren't important for the path, at least in early Buddhism. On the other hand, it can be helpful psychologically to repeat to oneself such things as the Mettā Sutta or the Five Reflections or many other items of dharma.
Please make video on Navayan Buddhism in India. where we are has converted in Buddhism in 1956 in history by The greatest person Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar - The Father Of Indian Constitution 🙏🙏
@@DougsDharma can you do a video or address on how we have to be careful with related Buddhist stories as to not distort what the Buddha taught. Because some will listen to a story and take it at face value and believe to be related to Buddhist teachings or ideals
Hey Doug, I had a thought and wanted your thoughts on it. With reincarnation in mind when we die, and then we come back, do you feel you arrive in your new existence with any form of previous Buddhist knowledge, dharma, of what you discovered/learned along your previous lifes path? Sorry. I'm new to this and just still learning and forming my roots. Thank you 🙏
Well personally I leave the more speculative elements of Buddhist belief like rebirth off to one side. Here are some of my thoughts on it: czcams.com/video/aBZNU-Vigz0/video.html .
Desafortunadamente no tengo el tiempo ni la experiencia de poner subtítulos en otras lenguas, ni en inglés. Creo que Google pone subtítulos que no son perfectos pero quizás mejor que nada.
You make your own destiny, Rewina. We all have dreams. Dreams don't really tell us much. Don't worry about them. Just follow Buddha's Core Teachings, like 'Do not harm others', 'Practice the 4 Brahmaviharas' etc. And yeah, Work hard. Your life should be alright then, I guess ...
Buddhaghosa was a much later figure, generally I focus on early Buddhism. That said, I have spoken quite a bit about Buddhaghosa in my videos and might eventually do one on him. 🙂
Iain, MOST of Buddha's teachings are NON Religious. Why ? Coz he was a Philosopher. His Philosophical Teachings make Perfect Sense. Also, Buddha was against Slavery. So, your point is invalid. You can't say that Buddha's teachings are problematic because of what some Buddhists have done till date. Buddha is different from his followers. Don't mix the two ...

You are blessed to regconized the blessing by studying the path. There are tons of Buddhists not following a Buddhist path.

Thats a beautiful Sukhothai Buddha you have in the thumbnail. Those style are my favorite .Thailand has strict rules on exporting them

Yes, Sukothai Buddhas are very beautiful, this is one of my favorites.
I really like the historical videos you do, hope you do more! 😁 It can be kinda hard to find ones on the historical Buddha specifically
Thanks Nathan, when I find a good historical topic I'll do a video on it ... but does depend on finding good secondary source material too! 🙂

I think that the best teaching that Buddha gave was "seek the truth".
Yes that's a wise teaching. See for yourself.
Thank you very much! Your videos are concise and clear. Would you mind making a video on or commenting on the Diamond sutra? 🙏
You're very welcome! I might do a video on the Diamond Sutra eventually, though my main focus is on the earlier teachings.
A precise description off Buddha.

Well to my knowledge there's no recorded influence of such supposed missionaries, even if they got so far which I think is doubtful.
Great 👍🙏
Thanks ✌️
