    I am using Tp link Deco M4 for the past 2 years. It suddenly stopped working. The main deco which is kept downstairs is working but the other 2 Decos on the top floor are not giving internet. The deco app shows no error. But the internet keeps on disconnecting every 5 to 10 seconds or it just stops. The wifi signal is there but no data on the top floor Decos. I have not changed the positions of the Decos. Have done nothing new. Why would this happen, what should i do ?

    I do Networks for a living, and this particular unit is starting to make me angry. 🤣 Tp link is trying to tell me they won't back haul without being physically connected to one another...NOT going to poe switch/switches. What is the point in poe if it won't perform wired back haul via that port into a switch?

  • @kdcarver
    @kdcarver Před 25 dny

    Looking through the links you provided in the header, I could not find which POE switch you were using to power the devices, nor do I remember if you stated what the power draw is for each device. Is this in the video?

    I can't seem to find the answer anywhere online so hoping maybe you could help me. If you have multiple units and want to have wired backhaul, do you have to run the units in a daisy chain like a typical mesh network setup? Or can you run a separate ethernet cable to each unit and connect them all to the POE switch and have the wired backhaul setup that way? Thank you

      @@TheJabberTechI have 3 poe switches at 3 different racks in my home. They won't connect wired by doing so. Maybe I'm missing something? But tp link is very little help here.

    • @mrprfct7069
      @mrprfct7069 Před měsícem

      @@longrangelauberthe problem is that if you want to use all the features (router) the 1st deco must have 2 connections when using POE. From modem to deco and from Deco back to POE switch. My house is pre cat6 wired but each termination point has 1 cat6 connection. That first Deco drop must have 2 cat6 connections. The other Decos need only 1 cat6 for the backhaul. If not the only way to use these decos is as Access points, in that case just buy cheaper APs. Unless I am missing something these are useless

    A question of a non IT person: when I use this Deco system, is it correct that I put the first main (master) device between the modem and the poe-switch? And do I get better signal quality when I Connect the other devices to the switch with an utp6 cable instead of wireless? I have utp6 internet connections on many locations in our house on every Floor, But I do want a strong wifi signal everywhere. I expert that the mesh system can profit from a wired connection?

    • @dirkhofmans7522
      @dirkhofmans7522 Před 6 měsíci

      Or would you in this case advise to go for access points instead of a mesh approach?

    • @TheJabberTech
      @TheJabberTech  Před 6 měsíci

      These would be your best option. Since you have cat6 cables already on every floor just hardwire the satellites and your connection will be just as fast as Ethernet cables. APs wouldn't give you the same SSID roaming capabilities as a mesh system

    • @dirkhofmans7522
      @dirkhofmans7522 Před 6 měsíci

      @@TheJabberTech thx! I have a gs316p netgear unmanaged switch. I have no idea if this switch supports ethernet backhaul communication for the deco’s. Is this important , is otherwise the communication via wifi anyway, will the utp6 cable only provide power if the switch is not supporting it?

    • @TheJabberTech
      @TheJabberTech  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Any gigabit switch will work for Ethernet backhaul. Poe is used to supply power via the cable. You can always use the normal power adapter instead

      well you could always set these as ap mode. then get a router replacement running pfblocker on pfsense firewall router. the blocklist is sourced from steven black among others.
      but the work around that is if they use a vpn client to get around the blocklist. Basically they don't need to touch the router, they simply install a vpn client and connect to the internet tunneled through that.
      unfortunately there is always going to be a workaround 😅
      Usually this is good enough for young kids that are not too tech savvy.
