This streak of 211 Wordles with themed starting words was quite an accomplishment, I hate to see it end. No doubt another streak is on the way.
The fact that you got this far in hard mode is frankly amazing.
No doubt. I got this one in six, but only because I was lucky enough to figure out the elt ending early, and used knelt with my fifth guess. Dwelt was the only world left available to me. I knew this one was going to break a lot of streaks, and worried about Mark. He needs to stand up and take a bow. Some of these words are brutal, and I'm astonished at how good he is at deducing remaining word options.
Now I understand why he is using previous letters instead of 15 unique letters in the first 3 guesses. "Hard mode." Got it.
Thank you very much for not giving up and starting a new streak tomorrow, Mark. There's quite a lot of us who really appreciate it. Good luck!
I remember many times you got close to failing. Some of the words they used seem to try to break your streak. I have to admit it's a sad moment to see your streak end. 😢😢😢

What a triumph a streak of 211 is! Starting the streak anew will not make watching these every morning any less enjoyable!
Mark, don't be too hard on yourself about the X, Z, or double L guesses. They sometimes seem like less than ideal guesses, but belly was just as likely as dwelt at that point. And you could argue a more likely wordle word (at least before the NYT started curating them). Sometimes I'll use a double letter or odd letter early and yo my surprise it is correct. And I think there have been times I've only gotten to the right answer because I've made that "gamble". A 211 streak is amazing on its own, but to also have that while using themed started words rather than "good" ones is even better.
In this case, BELLY and EXULT were virtually guaranteed _not_ to be the solution, because they had been already. OLIVE too, but I think of starting words as a separate thing.
@Ben White but do you have 667 answers remembered or did you look that up? Mark actually comments a lot when he thinks a guess was a prior answer and was using it to get more info, but no one is gonna have every answer memorized, especially as more time goes on.
@@chris5619 I don't have all of them memorized but I do know quite a few of them. On any given day I might remember one or I might not, it just depends. The point is that Mark got especially unlucky today.
To show how incredibly close Mark came to getting this, i've determined how many word choices were available after each successive guess.
The process starts with a word list of 14853 words.
The first guess of 'olive' reduces the list down to 3088 choices.
The second guess of 'hazel' reduces the list down to 684 choices.
The third guess of 'belly' reduces the list down to 27 choices.
The fourth guess of 'exult' reduces the list down to 5 choices. The 5 choices were dwelt, knelt, smelt, spelt and swelt.
The fifth guess of 'spelt' removed the three words containing an 's'.
This means that Mark's sixth guess was down to a choice of two words, dwelt and knelt.
Mark, you were incredibly unlucky.

This is great information. I think it’s interesting that with this information swelt would be a better 5th guess, but it would still not definitely lead to the right answer.
Unlucky on this occasion, but he’s had more than a few of these guesses on turn 6 where he has been tossing up between two words and guessed correctly instead of going bust.
@@waldolala2 I think swelt as a 5th guess would have been the best, because then your only option remaining is dwelt based on the yellow w, not a very common word though
Oh nooooo. The longer the streak goes the harder it is to lose it, but 211 in hard mode has to be one for the record books, so I hope you're not feeling too bad about it.
Oh sad! But on November 15 I hope to be exulting over a new longest streak. As others have said, dong the vast majority of these in a minute makes the streak beyond impressive. Thanks, Mark. I’ll be watching the new streak’s start tomorrow.
DWELT was so hard. I had no other options left so I sat there banging my head against the wall trying to figure it out on my 5th guess for like 10 minutes.
Dwelt is absolutely brutal. Please keep the series going, seeing how skilled you are at this always motivates me to try again every time my streak ends.
Since it was wordle no. 666, I started with DEVIL, which turned out to be very helpful.
Sorry about the streak, I lost my less impressive one last week.
I did the same. I was wondering if that was deliberate, since they choose the words now. (But Borax is what killed my streak.)

Wow a 211 streak is amazing. My max streak is 63 and when I failed for the first time it really broke my motivation. But since I found your videos I'm back at it (I am at a streak of 9 with 276 played and 96% so far) and now I have a goal set on the Horizon -> 212+ here I come ;)

I gave up and cheated, using a wordle solver after 3 guesses ("exult" being one of them). So my streak of 12 means nothing, at least yours is always honest. 🤗

Nooooo! Sorry, Mark. It was a tough one. I had the luxury of walking away after my second guess, and then getting a pen and paper to work it out. It took me about fifteen minutes in all.

Ruh roh. Really it is incredible you had such a long streak doing wordle in a minute (almost every day) & in hard mode! I got it in three, but there is NO WAY I'd have gotten it trying to do it in a minute. I took about an hour (again - day before stumped me too 😅) just staring in frustration after my second guess. I don't think there were many (if any) other options for me. I got lucky with knowing there was a "D" in there! SPARE -> BLEND -> DWELT
Bad luck on losing the streak. I am on 364 days now so as long as I get tomorrow done I’ll be happy
Aah i feel the heartbreak so much. I stopped hard mode for a few weeks after my streak ended at 190 🤣🤣 currently on my second attempt to get back up to it after falling at 115. Congrats on the amazing streak and looking forward to seeing you match it and pass it in the future!

Guessing dwell on the 5th try got me to dwelt. I have never heard the past tense usage of dwell in my life.
Tough luck. So many times I saw the word and thought that it was a streak-killer, only for you to get it in 2 or 3, but DWELT was not one of them. 211 is an impressive streak, though, considering your previous streak was 65.
Fantastic streak until now, Mark! Don’t dwell on this minor stumble - it was an amazing feat using Hard Mode and some pretty disadvantageous, themed starting words. However, I know the inner howl when 5 greens fail to materialise on the last guess. I started a new streak on New Year’s Day hoping for a full 365 in 2023. But unfortunately I fell on April 12 (BORAX day) 😢

I got really lucky placing the D early, but it still took me ~30 minutes of just throwing in letters in my 3rd and 4th before it finally clicked.

I wound up stuck on this one for so long. About midway thru I got it was an ELT ending but the other letters I’d used already left me stuck with nothing coming to mind. I eventually did get it, but ugh that was a rough one indeed

My current streak is around 145, so obviously I missed one that you got. It stinks when it happens, but we move on.
Always tough to lose a long streak. I lost mine recently to a technical glitch, which made me want to quit (it was in the 180s). But I decided to keep with it. It's a good way to start my day.
Poor Mark -- hard luck! And on a distinctly British word, too -- I was very surprised to see DWELT since I'd assume NYT house style would write "dwelled" if it used the word at all. Well, yeah, get back on the horse and get that new streak going: we're all rooting for you.
I think I feel worse than if it had been me! 😢 I agree, I think that was an intentionally difficult word, sneaky little buggers. Not fair, Mark, SORRY!! Don't know why I was so lucky to get it in four, and that was with using a bad "a" twice -- Reach, Stove, Pleat, Dwelt.
That was a very tough word - I bet it knocked out a lot of streaks. I was lucky - by word 4, I'd ruled out KNELT and tried SPELT, so I think DWELT was all that was left, but it took me a LONG LONG TIME to think of it. Too obscure to be a wordle word, I think... (If I'd used my usual EARNT start word, I'd have gotten the T right, but I don't know how much that would have helped with this obscure a word... Odds are, I'd have gone to ELECT anyways)

I got lucky with my second guess - DOUBT. The letters I had eliminated with the first two tries left few, if any, options other than DWELT. I was even wondering if Wordle would accept it as I entered it.

I had my longest streak of 99 ended at Borax the other day. I was a bit sad not to reach 100 but maybe I'll get it with this new streak. Good luck on beating the 211 next time!

I got this in 6 guesses. It was hard to think of.
Getting to a streak of 211 in hard mode and (usually) in less than a minute every time is really impressive. Only one thing to do and start again even if it stings. Been there.
DEALT is such a great starting word. Was able to get the correct answer on my second guess as a result, since there's only one other word with the form D_ELT.

Sorry to see Mark's streak end. I got this in 3 after being lucky and getting E and T right in my first guess.
It looks like I got incredibly lucky with this one as according to the solver I checked afterwards, DWELT was the only remaining word I could've played. Even so it still took me well over 15 minutes to actually find it.

This is heartbreaking.
I think the only reason this one didn't get me is that I'd ruled out any other possibility in my first five guesses (KNELT was my 5th, had already used the S).
And I couldn't think of DWELT at all. Had the --ELT and eventually resorted to exhaustively guessing all the remaining two letter combinations at the start.
211 is an incredible streak Mark. Roll on November the 15th, when you're due to hit 212!
I somehow got to _WEL_ and had eliminated the possibility of double L. So I eventually decided on DWELT at 5. But it took me all day of revisiting the puzzle before deciding that it was either DWELT (a word I had never heard of, and wasn't entirely sure it was the past tense of DWELL), OR this was a word that didn't exist.
Got it in four - just like today's (which I won't mention). Lost my streak a few days ago by not logging back into the NYT when kicked out due to resetting cookies (I got the word but it didn't register) - but it wasn't that long a one - about 40.
I sometimes struggle to find the word, sometimes even don't know the word and have to guess it. (English is not my native language.) And then I watch Mark do it in a few guesses under a minute. Yesterday was quite the opposite. I was very lucky (DREAM - DWELL - DWELT) and for a second I thought I would have my first win in 2 guesses. And then Mark loses his 211 streak. Whaaaaat 😲 Bad luck. Fingers crossed for the next big streak, Mark, you are incredible 🙂
SPELT AND SMELT immediately came to mind after the second guess. I got it in four, but I can't remember how. I think I got an early D, which made it easier.

All good things etc. I got this one in four but I was very lucky at the start so my second guess was SMELT, then KNELT, and then DWELT. But that last guess took a looong time to come up with another word that fitted.

I struggled on this one - EXULT-KNELT were my 3rd and 4th guesses, got it on the 5th, taking my average to the wrong side of 3.5

I honestly thought you'd mastered Wordle to the point of never missing another one. There's certainly a method, even in hard mode, to basically never miss but very difficult to achieve with a time constraint.
Not only is he doing it in a minute, almost certainly missing some more optimal guesses, but he's starting with theme words that are definitely not ideal. 211 is pretty crazy.

I had a very lucky 2nd guess to get this in 3. Organ, Style then Dwelt.
This one absolutely crippled me, I think wordle bot told me I'd narrowed it down to one possibility after the third or fourth word, again with the ELT in place, but I had to come back to it multiple times through the day before it finally clicked.
This is the first time I can remember that the answer has been a verb in past tense. Until now I thought the rules for answer words were something like "all nouns are singular; all verbs are in the infinitive." Was I always wrong about this, or did they change it?
Anyway, congrats on an amazing streak! Watching your videos inspired me to use different starting words instead of always the same "adieu" -> "sport" because I realized it's more fun that way. :)
I had gotten 'INEPT' on 2, which lead to 'DWELT' on 6... hard mode heck for me too.
That killed my streak as well. I couldn’t even finish, as I am also using hard rules, and I couldn’t make a word.😢

Three for me - POINT DEBUT DWELT. Given it is still in around easter I was thinking of John1 - And the Word became Flesh and Dwelt amongst us

I got completely stuck after guessing "TOWEL" (by guess 4), then had to abandon my clues while I tested a double vowel, which fortunately confirmed there was a D so by final guess I had all five letters. Tough word (unless you at some point guess "dwell").

I was super lucky choosing DEITY as my first word. Second word DOTES. Third guess was the answer. My friends took 5 or 6 guesses, so it was all luck.

I got this one in 3. On line 1, I ruled out an S and on line two I locked in the ELT by way of KNELT. Took several minutes to come up with anything for the 3rd line. After I finally got it, I fed the line 1 and 2 info into a solver... Confirmed what I thought. 0 results found. Not a proper word.

once you have any number of green letters locked in maybe you should be trying with words that satisfy the constraints imposed by the yellow letters but with never used letters in place of the green letters
