hey i watched the musicians react Dreamcatcher maison and as an fan of DC, yes the song is different from what they do and i could see that the reaction was 😐 i am not saying that it is bad but some musicians where not satisfied. so i suggest that to react the album with liam And maybe react limited songs selected from the album with the musicians this would be a good reaction video ☺️

what i always loved about these reactions is the way they voice their genuine opinion of the songs they hear. personally maison was not one of my favorite releases from dreamcatcher. what stands out the most for this song is the message they're sending but overall, it's still not even a bad song. it's actually really good. the outro honestly goes really hard and dami's rap *chef's kiss*

I feel the chorus was meant to be less melodic and more like a protest chant as the subject matter evokes.

I'm in the minority but I loved the song on first listen and I loved it even more on re-listens, it's very different and the consistency in energy was rather refreshing to me instead of boring, I listen to kpop more than casually so I got super used to low energy pre-chorus transition into hard drop or anti-drop chorus, my only actual complaint about this cb was the music video and use of CG, also I'm always up for DC doing something different, and it will hit differently for different people always and forever, wasn't the biggest fan of odd eye on its first release but now I love it a lot, I think this song has one thing that isn't existing in the rest of DC songs and that is something I call a trendibility, it's a very certain type of catchy that is easy for people to sing along to/chant and therefore has an easier time accessing trending status which is why it got them their first win imo
@@TJ_Sind2000 People over stigmatize the use of CG in Kpop MVs. There's nothing wrong with using CG, especially when it can achieve visuals just not possible otherwise plus they wanted to minimize their environmental impact for the production of the MV. Not everyone is a large boy group or Blackpink and have companies that can just waste a huge amount of money to try and do everything with sets and even they would be hard pressed to create an apocalypse without it.

@@TJ_Sind2000 You do understand that not everyone can do it the best way possible because that costs a lot more time and money. The CG here looks better than some other Kpop videos and the lighting is good / blended well for the most part which is where cg usually screws up. No one else is really doing it to this level for a full video, so I think for what it is it turned out pretty good. Maybe it's just my perspective of having watched CG develop since the very beginning that most things today look great by comparison. After all it's just a music video and won't look like the latest blockbuster film or top rated video game, unless you're a major player who can spend whatever it takes. Problem is as I've observed there just tends to be a default bias in kpop against cg, likely built up by the bragging of the big 3 over their lavish sets they build (which do look great, but is also just another way for them to suppress competitors and I'm not here for that).
Personally I felt that Maison was one of their weaker comebacks, not bad but compared to Scream, Because, Odd Eye the chorus felt lacking. Nice that they finally got their first win with it, and I love the bridge and outro to the song. Dreamcatcher is definitely one of my favorite groups right now, and I am super excited to see them live in Houston at the end of the month
I've felt the same way about Maison, but it got them wins, so I haven't said much about it.
Im not fans of dreamcatcher.. but i really like maison because it gives me nostalgia feeling... Its feel like listening to 2000s english song

The fact that they've been featured on Classical Musicians React with every Korean title track since Deja Vu is really impressive. I know there is still room for improvement but yall can't deny Dreamcatcher's discography keeps getting more and more diverse and interesting.

They already featured in Classical Musicians way earlier from the Chase Me and Good Night era but with a different group of musicians.
Imo, their best group reaction for Dreamcatcher is the Deja Vu/Silent Night video as almost all of them has something to say with Dreamcatcher's 2 songs musically of course.
And this channel do react to some of their B-sides and albums. So we can say that this channel really helped Dreamcatcher to be exposed to a lot of people who are cool or just curious with K-pop in general.
@@willytjl I think Umu said one time that she likes rock music and is okay listening to J-rock so Dreamcatcher really fits to her taste very quickly.

Agreed with a lot of the cast. I didn't quite know why the chorus didn't resonate with me as much as past title tracks but the lack of textural change makes a lot of sense. But the evolution of the chorus is fantastic and Dami's verse is one of her best IMO. Really compelling rhythmic flow.
Also, is Liam about to join the InSomnias? I knew he had excellent taste.

same here!! i loved this song but it felt kinda dry?? in the chorus, compared to their other title tracks and the whole song just didnt stick with me as well
No surprise that Dami's section was a common favourite, it's definitely one of her best tt raps, not only in flow and style but also the accompanying beat. It was nice to see the criticisms and I agree quite a bit, while the song is really enjoyable and sends a good message, it isn't my favourite from them but that's okay!
The part Sean played in the outro is my most favorite in the entire song. Really gave the vibe that something is coming.

I feel all the criticism was justified, I was also hesitant the first time I listened to Maison, it was weird, but it grew on me, and I love it now, but yeah, the later part of the song is definitely the better bit, and I usually enjoy powerful choruses and varied verses (I love you so much Odd Eye & Deja Vu), still how can you not love Dreamcatcher, they're just amazing, and we got wins finally!!!! Best part of the comeback ngl!! (And the world tour!!)

so in regards to the chorus being one note for the most part......my theory is that they kept it like that bc this is the hardest (read endurance) choreo for the girls to dance to to date

dami had the hardest time cos she didnt have a break in between cos of her rap part...
the one note chorus is probably there so that all the members can sing it. usually the chorus is reserved for the vocal line. they did it in scream in my opinion... the "devil eyes come" had gahyeon and dami finally be part of the chorus
the rest of the song is quite technically difficult to sing imo.... it's so easy to sing the chorus in contrast so it might invite more ppl in or smth idrk
this song was probably one of the first of theirs that didnt get to me right away at first listen, but it grew on me later on and now i have unhealthy obsession with jiu's part in the outro
My biggest critique of this song is that awesome bass line is so low in the mix. It's there, and once you notice it, it's fantastic, but it does get washed out a bit. Maison definitely grew on me, but I was underwhelmed on first listen. Got that first win though, and that's huge. I felt like a proud parent, and actually shed a few tears, which is weird for me. I'm usually not very emotional. Great reaction and analysis as always! Keep up the good work.
I do think this song leaves you with some sort of uneasiness (the chorus itself just comes with no build up, the bridge, the massive outro), and I think that was the big objective of Leez and Ollounder here. It's that we shouldn't be too comfortable in our planet. I know this is a bit of a stretch, but since this comeback came out that I thought about this and I just think it's a nice way to interpret the way this song was built.
This song has won awards and Dami's officially voted the best female rapper this year. Dreamcatcher are on another level that a lot of people sleep on.
one thing I loved about this is how different this sound is for Dreamcatcher. Just like when they came with Scream, which was a whole another approach to their sound to start off a new trilogy.
And I'm VERY biased because I'm an insomnia lol it was far from what I expected from the teasers (JiU's pre bridge), but it still amazed, especially with that climax at the end. There's definitely an anxiety rise, like Raffy pointed out, which took it to another level! Im a stan, my girls came through with this concept and I'm so excited to see how the world will end cuz we know there's no happing endings on a Dreamcatcher storyline lmao
There's probably some hope for the 2nd part of the storyline ,and then the world is ending in the final part lol
I think they really did something unique with this song, like the mixing was something new I liked it, but i still prefer their old style.
I am not a fan of the transition of Pre Chorus sounding the same as Chorus.
But Maison got their win.

A lot of people say this song had to grow on them, but I really liked it at first listen. It doesn't happen usually. Maybe as I'm not a musician nor studied music ever, I couldn't catch the weird mixing or the things you all pointed out, but for me it was a bop since its release. I couldn't understand why people had a problem with it 😭

Maison grew on me although i still had mixed feelings. didn’t know why except for the obvious (same-y chorus, abrupt transition to the bridge, the mixing). thanks to the reactors for not only breaking down what’s happening in the song that made me feel ehh initially. but also for the commentary on how the songs construction works to support the lyrics message. it’s made me hear the song in a new way. still one of my least favorite dreamcatcher title tracks but i understand it better now.
so thanks reacttothek, you’re the one channel i can rely on to have honest, grounded critique and to educate me at the same time.

I found the first-vs-final chorus chromaticism too and it's also the best part of the song for me! I realized it when listening casually using headphones and it just felt SO satisfying, realizing the progression is different. I don't know why I didn't realize it during the first listen (maybe I was too distracted by the mv lol) because it really emphasize the final/end of the song just like how a lot of the comments said it felt so grand & epic, and I also like what Raffi interpreted the ending as feeling rushed/time is running out - just like the message of the song about climate change emergency. Maison isn't my top/favorite DC title track as well, but its meaning + Dami's rap and that final chorus still makes it SUCH a good song 🤩

This had to be said, I love the editing! I appreciate that I felt like being taught/educated. Also the way it is not static, which you circles or highlighted some parts, it's very helpful. (It makes me realizes one of my fav thing in kpop song is what you call chromaticism? yeah)
If it makes you feel better, one of my biggest gripes with reaction content is that its not negative ENOUGH. I get everyone likes music and picking it apart but i feel like people are often focusing too much on what they liked and ignoring what they didnt like, but i actually wanna hear about what they didnt like. For me personally, this is one of my favorite title tracks. Im a big fan of songs that are just pure upbeat energy, so the repetition in this song for me is cancelled out by how its all gas no breaks. Even the bridge, which is by far my favorite part, still keeps that energy with that anxiety building grand scale and orchestral inclusion, really hammers in that sense of urgency and even lyrically the sense of collapse. When the teaser for the song came out, i did notice how flat and not very catchy the chorus was and found it kind of offputting at first. It felt very unlike dreamcatcher and kpop in general to have such a...straight line chorus. But i thought about it and chalked it up to the message of the song being the forefront and the actual song being made less flashy so people would focus less on the melody and choreography and more on the lyrics. As unique as dreamcatcher tends to be this is probably one of their most unique songs in that regard and i can understand why it doesnt appeal to a lot of people, it took me quite a few listens to really get over that sense of strangeness and enjoy it more. I dont know if you have any plans to check out the full album (if you already havent) but i think some of the solos would make good reactions, otherwise yall should check out the new kard comeback! Im not seeing them get a lot of love from kpop reactors and that needs to change, their comeback is incredible!
ironically the consistent energy is a more refreshing take on song structure, and helped it stand out to me amongst the other comebacks happening around the same time, so yeah same, definitely one of my fav title tracks, it also has a trendy touch to it which makes it easy for people to latch on to, which is why it won imo, I understand why people don't like it but I don't get the feeling people understand why WE like it lol

I thought the song was okay when it first came out but it grew on me with every listen. Especially since I was helping stream the song to get their first win, I was listening to it quite often. Now it’s quickly becoming one of my top 5, if not my top 3. When I get in the car for a drive it’s the one song I feel like playing. My 4 year old daughter also plays this song nonstop on her phone. It’s an old iPhone that has like 4 songs and she uses it for CZcams and games. I keep telling her that if she keeps playing it, that it might get played out but I still keep rocking to it every time she plays it and I mean she plays it on a loop. 😂 I whistle the melody just before the “La Maison” part throughout the whole day and when my daughter hears it she always sings “La Maison La La La Maison”.
4:20 I BURST OUT LAUGHING AT THIS EDITING that's exactly how I felt when I first heard the bridge 😂 I'm part of team "Maison grew on me", it weirded me out a lot at first and I didn't even remember how the song sounded like the next day even though I listened to it for like an hour on loop when it was first released. Now it feels like home the way Dreamcatcher songs do.
Love the part where it was explained that the chords for the outro chorus were different like I KNOW they were but I was not really consciously aware until you guys pointed out. That and the choir's foreboding "LA. MAISON. LA LA. LA MAISON." in the bg is why I love the outro so much lol

I adore this video so much dreamcatcher is the only group I stan currently that uses a lot of different musical elements into their songs so I'm alsywas waiting patiently for these reactions videos because I love seeing everyone disect the instruments and notes it's like im learning.
Top-notch editing to make me roll around laughing from the first 30 seconds + the visuals to really complement the musical insights. I learned so much, laughed so much. Have been having a difficult time coming off a half-year-long peak season at work then my grandmother passed away just one week later. I haven't really had the chance to dive into things that delight me, like music, merry discussions and creative chaos. I studied marine, wildlife and conservation biology AND i love kpop and i felt everything raffy said when it comes to not having our voices heard. It's not that we are not trying the real change starts with people. If we change our daily lifestyles as simple as using reusable bags to supermarket or not having 800 showers for 2 hours a day we can do so much. Change and progress can happen once we make change
I'm one of the few who I feel loved this first listen, it instantly became one of my fav titles by them, however I totally understand others not finding it as good as their past tracks! For me, the bridge, final chorus, and outro make up for the lack of texture change in the beginning. Those parts make me want to cry from how anthemic they are. Also, ngl but Maison was definitely made for the purpose to be played live! Almost everyone was singing it last night in Louisville, and that outro was one of the best moments of the concert for me :)

I love you guys.. so genuine with your thoughts. Although i don't understand the technical terms at all. But i get the gist of it. The producers were really brave to take the risk with the song but all went well and it's one of my favourite now because it sounds really different from other songs.

Great video! The mix on the CZcams video is way weirder compared to the mix on like Spotify, for example.
I was surprised at how groovy it was the more I listened to it on Spotify, definitely a grower. Maybe its just me but I felt the difference compared to the audio in the MV. I also agree with the criticism from you guys, part of it might be the change based on our expectations from previous TTs but also some things like the guitar distortion distracting me from the vocals which could have been louder. They were able to do this before, as in have clear and loud vocals with busy instrumentals, like in Endless Night, Good Night and others. The song mixing could definitely have been better especially considering how good the mixing is in all the other songs in the album, especially in my favourite group b-side "Locked inside a door" but also the solos.
But I think the way the songs flows and is structured, lends beautifully to the urgency and sense of dread of the message they are trying to convey, which I think is genius on Ollounder and Leez's part.
Also 1st and 2nd win finally 😭😭😭

Tbh I didn’t like this song at first either but then I saw it live and let me tell you seeing the live performance is an EXPERIENCE
Dreamcatcher was invited to the Primavera Sound, Europe's largest music festival, last month and performed in full on a solo stage, and is now touring various cities in the United States. I went to see Dreamcatcher's New York concert. Dreamcatcher's concert was the best as you may know. It was such an amazing and fantastic concert ! 😍
Umu, your reaction videos are about 200 cuts above the rest, and this was really a good one -- I especially liked the musical graphics illustrating the keys and scales and harmonics, which is so helpful to this fervent but poorly educated musical amateur. Thank you for your amazing work!
As for the criticisms, I'll just echo what a lot of folks have been saying -- please give us more, we can handle it, especially when the criticisms are informative and sincere and don't descend into childish pissing. I found this song underwhelming at first, probably due to the relative lack of structural and melodic sophistication, but it has grown on me amazingly -- and now I realize it's how the musical simplicity helps to clarify the underlying concept, and how that long major-key outro ties everything together to create such a sense of urgency. They hit that final section like a freight train, and the emotional impact is stunning. What more could you want from a song? For me, the positives completely overwhelm the negatives -- and I sensed some of your commenters coming around to this view as the discussion proceeded, which was interesting in itself.
First time listen to "Maison", I was fascinated by the intro and Dami's rap part, but when it came to the bridge, I didn't like the "sudden" change, to be honest. I was hoping for a very nice final chorus too, otherwise my first feeling to "Maison" won't be so nice. And indeed we got a beautiful final chorus and I was so satisfied! The last part of Maison really quality improving!

Yes, Dreamcatcher are touching on a very important subject here. Previously they talked about online hate, now they are tackling an issue that impacts the whole planet and therefore everyone. Climate change is going to affect all of us, and it is already affecting many people. Island Nations will disappear under the ocean ("Save my home in the ocean"). Ice melts in the arctic and displaces people ("Save my home in the polar"). Forests get decimated by corporate greed and habitats get destroyed ("Save my home in the jungle") and disappearing glaciers and snow packs result in even less water for deserts ("Save my home in the desert").
People have a natural tendency to ignore issues that seem to be in the future - but climate change is here, right now. We can't wait anymore, and it is good that Dreamcatcher use their platform to promote change: "Break your habit now!"
Musically I really enjoy the song. Like in BEcause, the rock/metal vibe is dialed back a bit, but it is still there and highly distorted. Although the more I listen to it, the more Rock I hear. I especially like how the pre-chorus and chorus seems to appear out of nowhere, the chord progression in the bridge, and the epic end part. The bass line is crazy as well. LEEZ and Ollounder have done it again, and the members are just brilliant.
한국사람인데 현 한국사람들은 락보다는 댄스곡을 좋아해 믹스를 댄스곡으로 한것같아 전앨범들에 비해 한국에서 조금더 알려졌지만 약간 전앨범들에 비해 락적인 요소가 흐려진게 아쉽지만 이것대로 좋았음 우리나라에서는 일단 이판에서 살아남아야 다시 락적인요소를 다시 해볼수있으니까 대중적인걸 좀더 선택한것 아닌가 생각합니다.
I'm Korean, but current Koreans like dance songs more than rock, so I thought the mix was a dance song. Compared to the previous albums, it was a little more known in Korea, but it's a pity that the rock elements were blurred compared to the previous albums, but it was good as it is. In Esau, you have to survive in the music market to try the rock elements again, so I think it's better to choose the popular ones.
I love that you point out that this is more of outro focused song.
It makes sense, no build up in the prechorus, and the choruses just slide right in. No relief. That's why the final chorus + outro is really satisfying 👌

I really appreciate everyone’s opinions and critiques. It felt very rock opera-ish with the driving movement and the BIG OUTRO, so I appreciate the song as a casual listener of that genre.
Is it the strongest comeback they’ve released? No. Is Locked Inside a Door a stronger song on the album? Yes. I still think it’s an interesting song with an important message and some of the production choices really suit, while others not so much.

maison is actually one of my favorite tts personally. i get the criticism but i think it's what makes it stand out from all other deukae tts. i looped this 800+ times for their 2 weeks promoting and didn't get tired of it and i think i know the song in and out by now...thank you for the reaction!!

I love Maison but if I'm completely honest I was a little disappointed in it compared to other DC title tracks - particularly the live stages - because of the weird mixing. Obviously whoever mixed it is a professional and it was approved by the company, and of course it got DC their first wins - so I've always felt like I just must be wrong about it? But then I see it mentioned here so I feel a little vindicated!
I don't know how long you've been listening to kpop, but I'm telling you anyway... Music Show wins have nothing to do with the music itself. 🥴 They depend on numbers: CZcams views, album sales, digital sales, etc. Whether a group wins depends on how high those numbers are (that's why groups with bigger fandoms can get wins more easily) but to this we have to add something else: groups that have more fans in Korea can get wins easier than those groups that have a higher percentage of international fandom.
And something that is important for groups to win is the competition they have according to the date they make a comeback: if other very popular groups make a comeback at the same time, then it is difficult. I repeat, the music has nothing to do with wins, but the popularity of the group.
I really like Maison, but the chorus is not my favorite 😕
This comeback was their opportunity to win because at that time the competition was not super famous groups, it happened that way. 🤞🏼

- Ive (although rookies but ended up getting like 20+ wins with 2 songs which speaks loads about their popularity)
So yeah competition wasn't exactly easy this time either but Somnia's worked extra hard this time around and I believe a lot of other fandoms also helped out with streams and votes 🙌🏻

I whole-heartedly agree with the mixing opinion. I think it was "too much" of everything to fully enjoy everything. It's hard to pick out anything. Chord progression isn't my favourite either, but I do like the bridge hitting us in the face.
Dreamcatcher's MAISON i think was made to be enjoyed on stage rather than with your earphones, that explains a lot of the mixing choices and the chord progression. Not my favourite title track, however the b-sides I think were absolutely killing it. I love them all. I don't know if you'll react to any of them but i think some of them might be cool.
