It’s funny to hear Chris Robshaw say SA didn’t do a lot when it was SA that engineered one try and looked threatening on at least a couple other attacks yet England never fired a shot to attempt to score a try.

He penalised that scrum because the england player had a knee down before all the other stuff you referred to happened. The ref was very clear on that, surprised you cant hear than. The ref was 2m away from that scrum and on the side of the transgression. We saw very little footage from that side. I would rather trust a ref with that decision than a pundit.

You can see the knee go down on the far side of the scrum from the original live angle.

What I find deeply frustrating as a South African fan is that the overwhelming message from NZ, Irish, French and other pundits is "we don't want people to play like South Africa, because they just play with the forwards and kick the ball a lot and rely on the set piece, and that's not good for rugby - it's boring and no good for the game".
In the 2019 World Cup, NZ scored 36 tries, South Africa 33, the next closest team were on 22!! In this World Cup South Africa have matched or outscored, in terms of tries, every team they've played; that includes Ireland, France, Scotland and England; if you include the warmup games which adds NZ and Wales ... well South Africa trumped their warmup opposition for tries as well.

I was trying to look up before last weekends semi (SA vs Eng) when last SA played a test match in the rain. Wasn't successful. I would also like to know maybe in the last 2 years or so how many times that happened.
I was very worried when I saw the weather for Paris last Saturday, and I see its the same weather dish on the menu for the Final next weekend.
After a decade or 2 of being criticized for being one dimensional the Boks have nurtured some blitzy backs and tried to diversify their game. England kicked the leather off the ball and did it with precision, something we were drawn and quartered for in our style of play leading up to and during the last RWC. The amount of Faff memes was impressive at the time. 😁
Chris made a great point of the zero handling errors by AB's against Ire in the semi. In the rain next week I wager that won't be the case and that plays into SA's hands with the scrums. Ire scrum against SA was pretty darn solid.
The 1st half Eng dominated everywhere, with precision high balls and the 'rub of the green, bounce of the ball' as James mentions (from an SA supporter) was less than kind for SA and Eng capitalized on this. Nothing went our way but Kudos to Eng for creating the pressure and their own luck. Thats rugby.
Eng scored only 3 points (Farrel drop goal) to SA's 10 in the 2nd half in a low scoring game. That's telling enough as to how well either side was doing in that period. As for the SA try Deon Fourie's run around the lineout was immense, unopposed with many meters gained, and really set that try up for Snyman
I think SA with a 6-2 split, even 7-1, with Pollard and Faff starting. Its wet, try keep it upfront and grind it out with a forward heavy team.
Good luck to the 'Old Foe', but would be great if the Boks winnit! 🏆😁 If SA do win, they would have played the other 4 top 5 teams in World rankings in the competition to achieve that feat. Got a feeling the AB's don't want that to happen and both teams will be vying for a 4th trophy. Lots at stake and a fitting final.

Can’t agree with James on a few levels. SA have not really had the run of the green. I can point to a number of crucial moments that have not gone their way:
    1. When Bandi Aki flew in from the side to collapse the maul at the end of the Ireland game.
    2. Woki getting in the way of Faf’s pass to stop what looked to be a certain try against France.
    3. Farrell (again) getting away with murder by interfering on the ground by blocking Reinach’s pass on England’s line with his knee. That was cynical and possibly prevented a try. Should have been a yellow.
These all happened right in front of o’Keefe, and I don’t think he reffed to offsides in mauls and rucks well. All crucial moments in the game that the Boks managed to put behind them, hold their heads, and win by the narrowest of margins.
That is what you want in a RWC final, more than any other quality.
I was initially worried that the Boks would be too flat against ABs after 2 massive games, but this is a monumental RWC final. There will be no problem with digging deep, putting the best performance in for 50 minutes, and then allowing a fired up and rested bomb squad dominate the last 30 minutes. This strategy has been perfected over 8 years, and it can’t be simulated by other teams overnight.

To use a tennis analogy - Serving an ace counts just as much as winning a 40 shot rally. We beat France reduced to 14 men at one stage. Rub of the green? Many collisions were not cited etc. Our high ball that turned into a try was on purpose, does he think we went for touch? Did we get the rub of the green against Ireland? If useless Marler and his round chum were as hard and skilled as they looked, or if Englands captain had a higher IQ.....the list goes on and on. Our player rating were 3 and 4 out of ten for Semi finals and we still won LOL. This is the final everyone on earth wanted and the best teams by a mile made it through. This is a one dimensional move of desperation for a 7/1 split from SA and shows how much they know that all they really have, is a strong forward pack and that doesn’t cut it.
    All Blacks way too dynamic.
The average age of the springboks is 30
They have played 3 exceptionally bruising games against Ireland, France and England. One tough game against Scotland. They also have one day less in recovery before the finals, compared to the all blacks.
The average age of the all blacks is 27
We have come through with 2 exceptionally hard games with France and Ireland and one relatively tough game with Argentina.
The starting team that has just been named for the springboks have a cap total of 987 caps.
The All Blacks have a test cap total of 1493 in their 33 man squad so I’m sure their 23 will have more caps.
We’ve also been shown a blue print on how to leave the boks dazed if it rains.
If it’s dry, we’re going to run rings around the boks.
This game may be the biggest winning margin in any World Cup match.
Let’s call it revenge for 95. We were poisoned and we would have won it if we weren’t This should be our 6th World Cup title win. Wayne Barnes robbed us of the other one, when he didn’t call forward passes, which he admitted was a mistake.
We’re going to score tries early and have the boks chasing the score board for the whole match. The bomb squad will bring SA closer but we’ve got this. SA is lacking out wide. Badly.
I’ve got $18,000 on the All Blacks.
We’re going to leave Rassie as a stunned mullet as we will be running almost everything and the metabolic score from players that Rassie measures using the FGPS trackers will be thwarted as we’re going to be scoring, with forwards not having much rucks and mauls and work in collisions.

On top of their National Anthem, they get to have a chance of intimidating psychologically the opponent. It is very colourful, and we all enjoy it, but in a different venue. Sport is sport, War is war. The Haka is unfair on the opponent, who has to respect it and avoid defying it, or else they might be fined by WR. The Haka loving nations can have their proud tradition in their changing room and build up their courage and determination, privately. So while he could start south africa wouod not have a reserve hooker. If this is the case a prop would have to go into that spot which could be dangerous and if south africa doesnt cover hooker then they will only be alllowed 22 players in game day squad. Records are made to be broken, whilst Will is a good player his tries against one could argue softer opposition have been easy. SA have faced with the final, all teams within top 6. Monumental effort. NZ are a great side, only beat Ireland.

Geez, that English guy is thrifty with his compliments. Took him a while to break out of it.

James writes excellent articles and is a very good rugby journalist. He has probably forgotten more about the game than you will ever know

James Whale? The guy who lived in paris slums for 35 euro a night? Maybe a good fiction writer. His wonky team got beat in literally 10 minutes of effort from the MIGHTY SPRINGBOKS. England are the only team that does a defeat lap of the field LOL. Playing for the English national team is equivalent to playing club rugby here in SA. Hahahaha, go bokke.

Hope the ref sees how much the ABs don’t follow the rules . Ritchie was a cheat according to his own testimony. Too clever . Let’s hope the ref sees all the professional fouls and all the cards.

Let's hope the referee stops south africa time waiting because their forwards are to unfit, they have basically a full 2nd forward pack on the reserve bench and they still have to go down pretending they are injured to get a rest leaving the field continually for head inspections was a joke. I was prop who loved tight rug y but hell 2 forward packs and your fitness still doesn't hold out. If rested properly all blacks fitness will take you out of the game

Stoppppp whinging about the ref. Especially that final scrun a lot of experts have already explained why that scrum penalty was exactly right, i mean there is a very obvious knee on the ground. If everything overall england probably had the ref's advantage that game especially looking at the breakdown penalties given to england in the first half. So please just for the love of the game all of you have a responsibility as pundits to stop whinging about the referees

Actually most so called experts are missing what the referee cruelly called at that scrum, yes the English props knee hit ground but he got straight back up. He was not penalized for that the referee called English for crapping sideways across the field. So go back actually listen to what the ref said and then you will see it would have been an English penalty as south African prop turned in and pushed across field. Actually take time to listen to the refs call before commenting

Come on team, stop whining. Why did the bunker ref not intervene? Nothing to intervene about. Boks by 10 points.😂
