DVD documentary about the making of slasher classic "Friday the 13th." Starring Sean S. Cunningham, Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King, Harry Manfredini, Victor Miller, and more!!!!
Betsy Palmer thought this would go nowhere, but little did she know that this movie would make her an American Icon. I loved her in this role. I don't care how many great movie quotes there are, one of my favorites will always be "Jason was my son...and today is his birthday."
I appreciate that she gave it her all. She could have given a half assed performance, but she didn’t. You could tell she deeply loved her son, and was off her rocker.
I always get a kick out of hearing Betsy Palmer tell the story about how she got the role and why she agreed to be in it. She didn't think anyone would even watch the movie, let alone like it. How wrong she was. I'm glad she finally embraced it. RIP, dear lady.
Are you talking about the villain, because Laurie Strode and Heather Thompson (Nightmare on Elm Street) would be up there too if the protagonists are factored in.
@@barrett7893 , agree as kid or little bit in middle school times I start really like Betsy Palmer and ms.Voorhees... I kinda hate her but same time I feel sad and sorry and wanted kill.. all consulers for what happen to baby boy.. Jason that poor boy but I find face little bit scare as a kid but.. never much scare well little and sometime horror movies to but.. I find them extremely cute same for xenomorphs but for me thus my option.
It's funny to think that she really didn't want this role, but of course how many of us would have acted differently if we had suddenly needed a new car? I respect her for playing the role she didn't want to the max. Come to think of it, this may be why Volkswagens were so prevalent in the later "Friday the 13th" films. There's one in 2, 3, and 6.
+Alexis M and then somehow part 2 was filmed in Connecticut and part 3 and 4 in California lol so where is camp crystal lake truly located is the question.
Let’s not forget that Morgan Freeman played the killer in his first role ever. In an interview, Kevin bacon says that Freeman was on ecstasy the entire film shoot. Crazy how Friday the 13th created so many stars!!
I enjoyed how the original and reimaging of the film came out to be but ive had 2nd thoughts about it: If Friday the 13th was remade, 1st half of it should focus on Mrs. Voorhees' rampage in Camp Crystal Lake right after Jason's supposedly drowning, let her murder her husband first, then the Camp Crystal Lake founders/owners the Christys, then the teen counsellors whom she felt responsible for ignoring Jason outside in the lake before she finally gets killed by the sole surviving counsellor like Alice. Then the 2nd half would jump forward 20 years or 30 years later with Jason as the next Camp Blood killer terrorising a new group of people who came into the now abandoned campsite like a family of a mother, father and two daughters (one older and younger) and another group of teens who are like into partying and sex who are camping out in another side of the woods. You remember how Rob Zombie's Halloween was presented? 1st half being a prequel while 2nd half was a straight forward remake? This would have Friday the 13th was supposed to be like, but without the frequent use of the f-word and no removal of the famous theme tune hook you know the ki-ki-ki-ki, ma-ma-ma-ma. Cause if it's removed then it isn't a F13 film, avoiding the mistake that Rob zombie made which was not including any Halloween related music (e.g. the theme tune) until the end credits.
haha - i slept at the camp in the early 1970s on a class trip. By the way, Enis didn't do Annie any favors when he gave her a lift from the diner, about 10 miles in the opposite direction of Camp Crystal Lake
Matt Chalifoux For me, part 2 and 4 made the series for me. Jason's kill on Mark, the way the camera panned out marked the first moment where we would see just how much merciless he was. Then part 4, him getting unmasked and the music made it too damn epic - unlike p2 and p3, he didn't pick it up, it's like he embraced himself and reached a new level in his vengeful soul.
Yep, in October of 2007. She made an appearance at horror collectibles store. She answered all of my questions and gave me a hug before I left. Yeah I had to pay like 10 bucks for a ticket but it was worth it. She even wore a light blue sweater like in the movie!
There will never be a horror movie like this one, remember sitting with my friends in the theater watching it over and over. Going in smoking Kona Bud from Hawaii very high, good days in America back then. Now we have it on Blu-ray.
It still amazes me to this day how a low budget slasher with random B Level actors from would blow up and turn into an iconic franchise….don’t judge a book by its cover
Very interesting spin on Mrs. Voorhees. She is of course killing several people, but according to Ms. Palmer, her character just didn't want more children to die. I suppose we can except her evil in the film as a sort of 'ruined goodness.'
gameroftheyear1000 yeah he worked for a meal at Denny's for each movie he made...up until Footloose, where he suddenly started demanding tons of money for each movie.
The reason I watch movies like Friday the 13th is that I know no matter how gory a slasher movie is, no screenplay can ever be as scary as the real world, and horror movies help me realize that!
There's a Crystal Lake in Connecticut & I lived next to an Elm St. as a kid & my friend lived on Elm St & after I saw that movie, it took me months before I was brave enough to go back to my friend's house on Elm St., lol
Despite People saying that Friday the 13th copied this off of Halloween this was much Scarier movie (in my opinion) than Halloween from Friday the 13th's Score ,to the Setting being in the woods and the Suspense of not knowing who the killer is until the very End of the movie ,the Gore and kills ft Tom Savini's make up Effect's and the shock value of the Killer being Jason's mother and then the Chair Jumper when kid Jason comes from the lake and Attacks Alice ,Halloween you know who the Killer is Michael Myers ,you obviously know there something wrong with him but what makes Halloween so much more interesting is why he was trying to kill the Jamie Lee Curtis character until part 2 and the fact on what is he obviously not Human since he was shot stabbed and Shot 6 times but otherwise Friday is by far way better than Halloween
Michael llehctim There's nothing wrong with taking ideas from other movies to improve your movie. But Halloween will always be the best and the scariest.
I agree, i prefer Friday The 13th as a movie and as a franchise, Halloween focuses on score and suspense, Friday kinda came with the gory kills and the jumpscares!
Who'd figure the Horror Movie Connection -- Last House On the Left - Sean Cunningham Directs ( and goes on to do the FT13th - works with Wes Craven who wrote the script ( and went on to do the N.O.E.S movies ). Mrs Palmer is so kick a** in this movie and still seems like that when i watch this documentary btw... she'll always be Mrs Voorheese to the Friday fans
@donniedarkodevotte No, he did not say it opened in 1979, he said it was racking up dollar amounts in hollywood during 1979 which that is true, Halloween was not a smash right at the very beginning, it took it a couple of months after it was released to be a great smash hit
There's definitely both pros and cons of a film having a huge budget vs a small budget. It all depends on what type of film the director sets out to do and if overproducing a film ruins it's authentic look and makes it look too polished. Friday the 13th was perfect for a tiny budget. The only negative is that the cast and crew made very very little money (just a few thousand dollars) while the movie made $60 million. I'd be bitter and angry if I was one of the main actors and was only paid like $10,000 for it with zero residues.
I absolutely adore slasher movies but I found Halloween & Friday the 13th boring, now A Nightmare on Elm Street, that's where it's at! I appreciate the films and what they've done for the slasher genre and I'll have to watch the sequels sometime

+Michael llehctim Me too I saw Friday the 13th when I was 12 years old on cable. Scary!
I appreciate that she gave it her all. She could have given a half assed performance, but she didn’t. You could tell she deeply loved her son, and was off her rocker.
Today is 40 years since the original 1980 classic
Betsy Palmer calling the script a piece of shit,
then cutting to Pamela Voorhees saying "what monster could have done this?".
Now THAT's funny!
I always get a kick out of hearing Betsy Palmer tell the story about how she got the role and why she agreed to be in it. She didn't think anyone would even watch the movie, let alone like it. How wrong she was. I'm glad she finally embraced it. RIP, dear lady.
R.I.P. BETSY PALMER
RIP Betsy😢🙏
Mrs Voorhees is probably the most iconic female character of the '80s horror films
Are you talking about the villain, because Laurie Strode and Heather Thompson (Nightmare on Elm Street) would be up there too if the protagonists are factored in.
Hell Yeah.. Mrs. Voorhees was my favorite Serial killer.. She had a good reason…

Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Hardwick, New Jersey.
Woooooooow ! ! ! Harwick , NJ like to travel there some day .
Adrienne king is really pretty, she has not changed in looks
"What MONSTER Could Have Done This?" Hahaha
Poor Victor Miller!
So Mrs. Voorhees killed 2 camp counselors and 7 would be counselors all so she could buy a car? Sounds legit.
You gotta do, what you gotta do lol. Hope it was a great car 😂
@@daniellelawman9724 in 1979? Ya. It was a good car.
R.I.P Ms. Palmer. You and Sean scared the hell out of me as a child. Thank you.
"Kill her mommy, kill her don't let her get away mommy, don't let her live." " I won't Jason, I won't!"👵🔪👩🏕😱🌕
I love Betsy Palmer! What a character.
These movies launched so many great careers. Just give me a few minutes to think of them.
+slide4180 Kevin Bacon, for starters. Uh, that probably sums it up!
+slide4180 Kane Hodder and Kevin Bacon other than those I have no idea
+slide4180 idk about "launching their careers" but corey feldman & crispin glover were in part four.

Awesome movie. Never gets old. Inspiring how a small crew and small budget can make a simple, powerful movie and it become a success.
Betsy is so hilarious😂

I liked Part 1 and part III the best! Yes III had the dumb 3D aspect, but there were a ton of kills and it was gorey without going too far
Unpopular opinion I liked jason x and jason goes to hell.
Part 1, Part 4 & Part VI
Funny to see Sean and victor talking normally and not trying to kill each other for the rights to the movies
Adrienne King hasn't aged at all. She looks better now than she did when she was younger.
Yes she does
Yea
feels kinda relaxing watching this seeing everyone alive now

This is way better Friday the 13th out of all the whole series.

Mrs. Voorhees is scarier than her son Jason.

I did not think these kids or anyone one in this film overacted as a person here suggested; they all acted convincingly.
Iconic horror/slasher.
Horror movie history.
There's an Elm street where I live (Melbourne, Australia) as well. Just goes to show that what Freddy said is true. "Every town had an Elm street"
The music in this movie gives me chills
They should do a friday the 13th where all the survivors come together to finally kill Jason
What I always loved about this movie was that it could actually happen! The only fiction was Jason at the end
Let it be a movie lesson that nothing films like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Scream, etc.. will always end up becoming movie icons.
Also Palmer: nobody will watch this it will come and go
Friday the 13th: makes 12 movies and has some games
Yea meanwhile Kevin Bacon never talks about this movie. I wonder why.
haha exactly! and the actors in this doc act like they made citizen kane

I'll tell you what.Betsy Palmer seems like one cool lady lol.Well a real cool old lady now.
I used to live right next to an Elm Street. It's quite a common street-name. But it's cool that there actually is a Crystal Lake in Iowa.
6:39 Betsy Palmer was very hot in her younger years. She reminds me of some other blonde screen goddess. Jayne Mansfield, maybe.
Thank u for posting!
The first teenage girl that was killed “Annie”( Robbi Morgan) was sooooo damn cute! 😍
It took me 4 years to find out that the mom was the killer in the original. I was retarded ;p;
Adrienne King was the first of the truly beautiful women in the series...but Betsy Palmer was very beautiful in her day as well.

@captainonetake Well THIS first one actually WAS indipendently PRODUCED. But a major hollywood studio ( Paramount ) bought and distributed it .
scariest music in horror movies.
Pamela only been shown in 1 movie, except her head in the others, but at least she became a mystery for Friday the 13th
There's a Crystal Lake in Haliburton Ontario, I seen it myself when I was a kid and thought Jason was gonna get my friends.
Much like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a low budget helped make this film scarier and more iconic
