When PlayStation 2 launched Sony wanted to push DVDs and have different type of gaming experience using the dvd format…they came out with interactive games for the system to support dvd…same thing they kinda did with Blu ray and 3D Blu ray with PlayStation 3. I grew up during those days, born in 84…but basically they’re more and it was used to push the dvd format on the ps2.

Mad Dog Mcree and its sequel were light gun laserdisc arcade games. As you can tell, live footage was used. These games were actually filmed just like a regular production, but each scene had a different outcome based on your marksmanship. Playing in the arcade with an actual gun was not only a real treat but a crap ton easier than the DVD versions. I had the PS2 version and since it was NOT light gun compatible, you had to move a cursor on the screen with the directional buttons and press the OK/Enter button on the remote which acted like the trigger. The major downfall is by the time you got the cursor on the bad guy, you were already shot which made the home versions an absolute nightmare to play. The company also released a murder mystery game type game titled "Who Shot Johnny Rock?" That one tanked. After they released Johnny, they had already started production on one that portrayed you as a DEA agent stopping people from bringing drugs into the country. Production was halted, when Johnny was a complete flop in the arcades. But since the arcade versions were published on laserdisc, Johnny was already produced on DVD but did not sell well at all just like Mad Dog II. Which makes those two DVD games needles in a haystack. In my opinion, the best Laserdisc arcade games that were converted to DVD for interactive gameplay are Dragon's Lair and its sequel, and Space Ace.

Mad Dog II is a sequel to Mad Dog McCree. Both were released as DVDs that are "compatible" with a PS2. Because the PS2 came with a DVD inside and there were actually quite a few of those choose your own adventure type games that were originally laserdiscs that were ported to DVD and advertised as PS2 compatible. The real innovation of the PS2 at the time of its release is that it cost about the same as a DVD player and could play games.
    Here are some more:
    Dragon's Lair
    Dragon's Lair II
    Dragon's Lair III
    Space Ace
    Shadoan Thayer's Quest
    Kingdom II: Shadoan
Time Traveler (came with 3-D glasses and was actually a genius port of the HTF videogame; this one is worth seeking out).

Mad dog is has a pretty interesting history with it. I've heard about the one you have but have not seen it before. I have the 1st one on the sega cd. It also had a tie into laserdisc as well before the sega cd and may have had an arcade machine, run off of the game being a laserdisc. Those fmv games are great but not for everyone. Think of night trap. Even the might Morphin power rangers got one on the sega cd and it's not that expensive. That was the rage in the late 80's to mid 90s. A ton came out on the sega cd but also ported to the 3do as well. Great pick ups and vid Rick. 🤟🔥

There a two variants of Mad Dog 2. One with a ps2 sticker and one with a Xbox and PS2 sticker. I believe the Ps2 only sticker is harder to find?
