In 2017 Dimash received a wild-card for the competition “The Singer” in China. He was the youngest participant of all time (22 years) and the first non-Chinese in this show. Only professional, award-winning singers take part. Nobody knew or hear Dimash before and he also had to start first... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of millions of viewers overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood at his door.
"All By Myself" was the 9. song in the competition.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds, over 4 months. The jury consists of 500 spectators. With up to 1 billion people see this tv-program, that's generated international interest. The performances were uploaded to CZcams... and so, we became Dimash’s Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned ... but Dimash came, sang and stayed... for the next 3 years in China... but he only finished second in the competition because he's not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. won).

Of course he was showing off, it was a signing competition. That was not his "normal" voice, it's hard to say what his "normal" singing voice is, because he sounds so good in every register. His speaking voice is pretty deep and smooth. This competition was from 2017 when he was 22, he was just learning English, so his pronunciation wasn't that great then. His English has gotten a lot better (check out "Stranger" 2021). He sings in 13 languages, Japanese being the latest language he sang in ("Ikanide" Tokyo Jazz Festival 2021). He speaks Kazakh and Russian fluently, and is studying English and Mandarin. He holds multiple degrees in music and is working on his PhD currently. Every performance is different and will leave you mind blown. I recommend you check out "Sinful Passion" 2018 Sochi, "Daybreak" at Bastau 2017, "Ave Maria" 2021, "Olympico/Ogni Pietra", "Adagio" 2017 from "I am Singer", "Love of Tired Swans". This is actually and Eric Carmen song. He wrote it released it in December 1976 and it became a huge hit for him, number two on the top 100 charts. Celine Dion did cover it and it became a number four on the top 100 chart for her.
Just for the record this was sung at the Chinese Singer competition but Dimash was not a competitor this year. He had been invited back as a guest performer. He was 23. He is now 27.
Just for the real record. Dimash was a competitor when he sang this song. It was 2017. Same show he sang SOS, and Opera 2 ......ect. He was invited back in 2018 and sang "Hello" by Lionel Richey. Also, Eric Carmen did write this song. Although it was a Rachmaninoff melody. But the arrangement Dimash sang was the Celine version.

He is fluent in Kazakh (mother tongue - Dimash is from Kazakhstan) and Russian (second language)......reasonably good in English and speaks a smattering of Mandarin (a few words here and there). Kazakhstan is in Central Asia - between Europe and Asia......Dimash is Eurasian.

Amigo,en realidad no se estaba luciendo..es que las canciones que no son de el las hace suyas...y si el habla inglés y canta en 13 idiomas y para los que no lo saben esa canción no es de Celine Dion,ella hace un cover ...la canción original es de Eric Carmen...así que todo el que canta esa canción está haciendo un cover de la canción de Eric Carmen...pero escucharla en la voz de Dimash es totalmente diferente porque es el mejor del planeta...único, inimitable.Con esto no quiero decir que su versión sea la mejor pero si es única...las demás versiones todos tratan de imitar a Celine y en ese caso para mi la única que igualó o superó la versión de Celine Dion fue la filipina Charice Pempengo...esa chica estaba a un nivel muy alto tratándose de cantar música pop como cantan la mayoría de los famosos...por algo Celine le rindió un tributo...pero la vida le paso factura a Charice y pues lo demás es la historia y el camino que ella misma escogió...
