I remember taking a bus trip to Colorado one of the most beautiful states in our country back in 1992 and I had just gotten this CD for my birthday that year and listened to it all the way out there and back. Beautiful. I love Tangerine Dream.
That’s the year I was born. 30 years later, i discover this song. Tangerine dream are icons. The Legend (1985) score is a masterpiece.
I watched this movie every time I stayed home sick from school as a kid
Get well soon
How old are you? I was in my late twenties when I was really into this video! 1992
I always remember the people who introduced me to music that I have come to cherish. This is a perfect introduction to new TD listeners. Give this CD as a gift to special friends and you'll be remembered.
had some guys talk me into helping them paint a house; put this on and those guys didn't say a word...the whole she-bang album wise.
Love Tangerine Dream since ~ 1978. Love ❤️ love 💞
20.01.2015 R.i.P. Edgar Froese
died in Vienna , 70 years old .....
I to have this on dvd and the Video footage is simply stunning . Scenes are edited with this music to a T. A must see for any Dream fan. I was in Selfridges last week , a sales rep was trying to sell a mobile speaker , he asked who my fav band was I said T D , HE SAID NEVER HEARD OF THEM , I just smiled and said to myself , you poor sod .
Tangerine Dream would definitely be a good test of an audio systems capabilities. Another of my favorites is Isao Tomita, particularly his adaptation of Holst's "Planets". Recommend it highly.
remember the first time I heard their stuff....stopped...an went....wait a minute....not all their stuff is great but a lot of it is ....spot on.
The sales rep was an ignorant twat.
I just saw him as less Blessed than the rest of us .
Farewell, grand master of classical E-music ...
... may humanity find peace, as we in your music !
One of the best progresive groups. Edgar Froese you always Will be in my mine with your music.
SUCH MEMORIES THIS RELEASE BRINGS!!! THE VHS WAS THE FIRST I OWNED.
Breathtaking and one of TD's finest later albums. A matter of time being a personal favourite.
awesome album from the kings of electronic music tangerine dream. this album makes you feel like you are on a journey across the world. so special. no one better at this music than these guys. it is a soundtrack to a movie i have never seen before.
***** thanks i always liked them
Jamie Warrior Warlord McCallum ...no words...none but the beat of your own heart
holus-bolus, The best Songs & Group of progressive music I have ever heard...
I can hear a lot of Roland D50 on this; they must have been using it a fair bit during this period. There's the preset 'Digital Native Dance' in the second track, especially evident around 6:40, for example. Another unique preset starts the third track, but I forget the name. I noticed too in the New Haven 1988 recording that Logos 88 uses the patch 'Staccato Heaven', and I'm sure they used one of the choir patches on Parabola. It's interesting how their sound changed over time.
edit: Staccato Heaven here too at 36:41
fantastic music; Video was even better ; music and Video in perfect harmony;
On You Tube is The video
Those who have hiked the canyons of southwestern USA (as I often have) are likely to fully appreciate the magic of this music.
Wow you can really hear the roots of what would later become Chris Franke's amazing work on Babylon 5 in this album
Fun TD score and to a project that was never suppose to get an official soundtrack release. I recall being ver displeased that the press release for the video/Laser Disc (there was DVD yet) specifically mentioned that the music for CANYON DREAMS would only ever be heard on the filmed released and never in another format. However, prior them eventually giving in and releasing an official soundtrack, many years later, 2 tracks of the score had been made commercially available on compilation CD/Magazine called "CYMBIOSIS - Vol. 1, No.2". The 'magazine' was a first of it's kind and was more of a large, multi-paged, CD Booklet that came with the CD, rather than the other way around, and it featured articles and music by many other artists.
Had this DVD many years ago. Can't find it (buried in boxes somewhere) but it was a great video. Music was fantastic and thanks for sharing it here. Just wish the video was still available as an online stream. :)
I have the DVD too. I haven't watched it in a long time though. I think Miramar blocks the visual content nowadays.
On You Tube is the video.
Canyon Carver and Sudden Revelation. First heard them on a national new age radio show back in college Hearts of Space. I have mediated to Sudden Revelation back in the day. Wonderful traveling spiritual aural experience.
+Tiny B me too! That's where i started XD HOS still exists too :)
+Colleen Wilson Awesome. So you know what I'm talking about. Oh yes I subscribe to HOS. And use their app to listen to the classic shows we both remember. It puts me to sleep nightly. ✨😵✨. Thank God for Stephen Hill and the universe of new age artist out there. They bring me a nostalgic peace of mind in these crazy turbulent times.
+Tiny B very awesome XD
Lol, my meditation teacher used to play TD for meditation all the time. Good stuff. Some of the Poland CD is great for meditation too.
Sudden revelation sounds a lot like the Atlantean Sword track from Conan the barbarian
Always so intense and I love all of your music 🎶 🎵 ❤️
Thank you for everything ❤️
loved listening to Shadow Flyer!! great on the last part of the video I was watching of The Grand Canyon!
R.I.P. Edgar ( medicine ) Froese.
First saw the video Canyon Dreams when boarding a flight from London to Newark. Early 90's before the Web really took off. Also like the Oasis DVD.
I've had a powerful dream years ago about canyons and my life. I've never been to one but it's the last place I've seen all my family in (inside my dream) felt like I was there. And now that dream lead to me searching canyon dreams, and alas this beauty I discovered.
In the song "Shadow Flyer", the Roland D-50 PN-D50-00 patches "Staccato Heaven", Afterthought", "D-50 Voices" and "Choir" and the PA-Decoder Volume 1B patch "Affro Bass Loop" were heard.
In the song "Rocky Mountain Hawk", the Roland D-50 PN-D50-01 patch "Bassoon" was heard.
Great Album!!!!!!
Thank you for posting this. Spotify, for some reason, doesn’t carry this album. I’ve been looking for It for years. Thanks!
Same with the tune ‘Mount Shasta’ they retitled the cd it was on, ‘Lily on the Beach’ and left it out..I was looking for it, and realized Spotify didn’t have this either, (my fav) and ended up here.. great sound..
Stunning!! On my channel I am starting a project to collect all the Tangerine Dream albums on VINYL....or at least as many as I can as not all of them were ever issued on 12" record. It's an exciting project..... I already a few but have but a LONG way to go
I can hear that this music is recorded mainly on Roland D-50 :)
Are you kidding me? I had a D-50, many moons ago and felt like it was such a beginners, synth-101, keyboard. I can hear it though all these years later, now that you mentioned it😁.
Yes, a lot of sounds are from Roland D-50. For e.g. the patch used in the beginning of ”Water's Gift” is a D-50 famous patch from the standard bank, called: 37 (patch number) ”Soundtrack”. It uses at least 4 partials, each activated depending on how soft or hard you press a key.
Canyon voices was one of my favs
+Colleen Wilson How you got into TD...? Me just a few years now
+Jog Singh They would play ambient music on a radio station hour long program called hearts of space (you can listen to them still on there site) while was in highschool in the 90's . I loved it and many of them were tangerine dream and tha's all she wrote!
Colleen Wilson Lucky you. Me in Malaysia. As an asian country Ambient Music is totally unknown. Me myself is an unknown Ambient music compose,,,due to not much support down here in Malaysia
+Jog Singh :(
Colleen Wilson Means you have a powerful imagination..
Very beautiful
Just got back from a trip to the Canyon. Couldn't find the video for sale.
This used to be on a cable tv channel all the time in the UK in about 1993. they used to just show landscape scenes. maybe it was a place holder for another channel but l think its only me that remembers this.
I remember too, Channel 4 would play ambient music in the mornings, and some of these tracks were used, accompanying videos of scenery and other stuff.
Art of Landscape.
I used to watch it lol. I wrote to the channel giving them a bollocking why tangerine dream weren't featured, and moreso canyon dreams. It started playing a few weeks later after i wrote..:)
I remember too. Early mornings. You used to hear Patrick O'Hearn, Claire Hamil and Enya on Art of Landscape. I never knew Canyon Dreams was featured, but then I only caught it a few times.
Flowing through canyon dreams to find the miracle Mile, lily was on the beach looking for the paradise cove. She took a desert drive to find Marakesh. Please add to this story.
Fantastic music
Beautiful music allways
This is the first time I have heard 8 and 9 on the Canyon Dreams album. I have the CD and VHS version which doesn't include these. Nice find :)
In “Canyon Voices”, the Roland D-50 PN-D50-00 patches “Harpsichord Stabs” and “Shamus Theme” and “Spacious Sweep” were heard.
Love that deep bass in Canyon Carver
Kokopelli returned! 🪈
Colorado Dawn is the bomb
Tangerine Dream
La música para largos viajes y los videos para perderse por el universo.Que geniales y alucinantes
In “Matter of Time”, the Roland D-50 PA-Decoder Volume 1A patch “Short Harp Delay” and Volume 1B patch “Vollenweider Harp” and PN-D50-01 patch “Whistling Soldiers” and PN-D50-00 Patches “D-50 Voices” and “Shamus Theme” were heard.
Awesome album 👌
Certainly one of the best TD albums ever recorded
Are you serious dude? This is not a patch on Richocet, Rubycon and a few others. Sadly after 1983 Edgar took TD away from their trademark sound. Anyway that’s my humble opinion.
@@sufilover5530I used to think the same but now I’m older I find myself really getting into their 80’s stuff
In “Purple Nightfall”, the Roland D-50 PN-D50-01 patch “Squeeze de Sax” was heard.
fascinating... :) I like your ears friend.
one of their best melodic albums
In the song "Canyon Carver", the Yamaha DX7 ROM-3A patch "Electric Bass 1" was heard.
You're right on, also this album is heavy on the Roland D50. The track Canyon Carver, at the beginning you hear the patches "Shamus Theme" and "Digital Native Dance" "Fantasia", also Water's Gift you hear the classic "Soundtrack" patch as well as many others throughout the album.
Tangerine Dream...My favorite progressive Group of Aliens Songs...By The way, I always feel outside of my body, like a feather in a Real Space of our tiny Galaxy....Amazing all the time....being on my own essence...
sudden revelation
In the song "Colorado Dawn", the Roland D50 PN-D50-00 patches "Soundtrack", "Choir", "Staccato Heaven" and "D-50 Voices" were heard.
Very nice to listen to, makes you believe you are actually at the Grand Canyon with all its beauty, mystic and rafting down the Grand Canyon. Before those DAMS were built. Thank you Tangerine Dream. Please make some NEW MUSIC about Ancient Monuments like Carnac, Puma Punku, Baalbek, Gobekli Tepe and Easter Island.
+Winthrop Frame Sorry mate, but Tangerine Dream is very unlikely to produce any music at all since Edgar Froese died just a year ago, Jerome Froese explicitly refused to "carry his torch" and the left group members only talked about finishing a recording that Edgar had started and maybe do some tribute stuff... It was BTW one of the few times where the death of a musicians has knocked me off my socks - TD really changed the way I listen to music and indelibly marked my late teens.
This was recorded on Plexus Truglidunchi PR 900
If i'm not mistaken, the track "Colorado Dawn"uses similar themes to "Red Roadster"off the Rockoon CD. This is the standout track, If only they could have cut it down to 3 oh 5, they might have had a hit.
This is an amazing track particularily for the piano note progression towards the middle. When i listen i can hear notes that aren't there in the empty spaces!
ordered this on VHS eons ago then when I received and played it for the first time it was not a happy tape... :( took it back.
can on dreams yes we Canyon
Wapaniała płytka,
Colorado Dawn - Музыка из Вести-Удмуртия.
Ya solo Jean Michael Jarre queda en la tierra como digno representante de la música electrónica original
‘Oxygene’.. I had the 8track back in ‘76-‘77 👍
produced the packaging for Richard @ virgin records Hammersmithi1974. 78yrs old now, 2/3hrs a day compulsive listening & spreading the gospel to the never heard of 'em. kenneth gilham
I really wish this would get a vinyl release.
In the song “Shadow Flyer”, the Roland D-50 PN-D50-00 patch “Afterthought” was heard.
Thanks for deconstruction. Indeed TD also used presets. That's no secret.
Rocky Mountains Hawk using "More than a party" sampler from Depeche Mode back in 1984!!!
I'm sure you already know, this also came with a VHS video. Don't know of any DVD release. This was Christoph Franke's final production.

Canyon voices 👍♥️
Roland D50 master piece
Listened-good sound, but does not speak to my eyes like TD’s Underwater Sunlight-maybe because it was the first one I ever heard, have the CD, love the seas. For Grand Canyon, this one does not speak to my eyes like Grofe’s Grand Canyon Suite-one of the most visual musical pieces I’ve ever heard. Have been to the Canyon 3 times, once in snow! Magnificent.
UncommonEyes This is the soundtrack to the video/DVD Canyon Dreams which has the visuals. It is on youtube somewhere.
Richard John Hi Richard, thanks for this info, however my meaning is that the music its self conjures up such wonderful visuals in Grand Canyon Suite (very old work-1930's). Examples, sunrise, hoof beats, thunderstorm. I'll look for the visual of this one, too. I especially music that cojures up visual images.
UncommonEyes Yes... I understood what you meant :-)
Grand canyon baby.
Sudden Revelation sends shivers down my body, WOW 20:04
My favorite track! Masterpiece!
Sudden Revelation reminds me of Atlantean Sword by Basil Poledouris from Conan the Barbarian, can anyone could elaborate on that?
I wanted to see the thumbnail at fullsize, it looks good.
Shallow easily next to their material from the early and mid seventies. I wont bother with the synth pop effect.
Shame the film, to accompany it, wasn't shown!.
Kicz!
Yeah Jerome Froese IS the first time
all album is plays on korg synthesizers.....m1,01w,wavestation ex......great atmospheres, ciao
From Edgar and Chris here is the definitive list from that time period: Emulator II, NED Synclavier II, PPG 2.3 , Waveterm A, Prophet 5 , MemoryMoog, , Sequential Circuits Drum Traks, Oberheim OB-Xa Oberheim Xpander,, Roland Jupiter 8 , Yamaha QX1 sequencer, Roland MK830, Super Jupiter , MKS-80 & MPC 80, Custom sequencer (EEH CM4),Yamaha TX816, TX216, Akai S612 sampler, CP80
brilliant, thank you !
Nope Roland D-50
Emulator II - Dreams ----> 20:35
!
To me, their last great soundtrack, and fine album. I stuck around though until Goblin's Club. Then I had had enough.
Now, 22 years later, I've revisited the ones that had previously disappointed me (from Rockoon onward), and they were much better than I had remembered. I will try more recent material.
You won't regret it. SENSING ELEMENTS from most recent album QUANTUM GATE is worth the price alone. For my money the current Quaeschning / Schnauss /Yamane line-up is the best since Franke / Froese / Schmoelling.
Is this the 1991 version or the 1987 original version?
TDI 1999 release. But I used the Membran artwork.
www.voices-in-the-net.de/canyon_dreams_cd.htm
@@RichardW001 thank you very much and thank for the link, I have the 1991 version of the cd, basically this is a remastered of the 91 version with bonus tracks, I heard somewhere that the 1987 VHS version had the tracks played differently.
He hit her
Rubycon, Ricochet, Stratosfear, usw.
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
... track 01.o.k.
this soundtrack is better than the albums the band did around the same time (which are pretty awful), which sort of indicates that making soundtracks was what they were best at doing by this stage. this was the last studio recording with chris franke, who went on to do non-electronic soundtracks.
;-)
Musique Trop Classique Passe Partout not Tangerine Dream electronic music expérimentale 1970's
36:20
Ear porn right there XD
Have this on a rare one sided plastic disc laser disc...I mean fucking rare...only one I've ever seen .
here again is another victim of remastering . It sucks ... the highs are too high .
Well, there again, after seeing it everyday for 5 years...one could become bias .
Pp
I do not like this, I prefer cyclone and force majeure
It's hard NOT to see the decline... This sleazy pseudo Inca flute is abominable. This has nothing to do anymore with the band that made Phaedra or Rubycon, and before... They should have changed their name into Pinochio's Doo Dah Whoppa Band or something like that.
TD has indeed changed during the years (like we all hopefully do) and explored many styles, that should not be compared. The period from 1975 until about 1980 is my favorite, but they have always produced great music in my opinion, original and artistic. Canyon Dreams is another example of that. And i love the beautiful Inca flute :-)
It's fair to say TD did a lot of compromising to get exposure to a main stream audience, but this is NOT an example of any form of sell out. It fits perfectly with the natural progression of the group and stands alone as just a PERFECT work of art.
Many people can and do recover from a Formalist's reaction such as yours here. With TD (as well as a host of other shape-changer artists), I know I recovered, and was able to enjoy their mid-80s period in addition ten years before. It's rewarding....
"Don't look at the Form; Look to the Content," --- Vini Reilly of The Durutti Column
yea mid 80s was the downfall cheesy shit
I totally agree. I followed them from the beginning in the 70's, saw them progress from album to album, saw them in many concerts in France and met them. But I never understood they make music more and more indigestible. At the time I thought that their music approached the classical music but after Rubicon and Epsilon In Malaysian Pale they made music of supermarket. And when I speak of Epsilon, I speak of the 1st version, what need Edgar Froese has had to re-register it to make of syrup...
There are two kinds of electronic music: a) electronic music, and b) Tangerine Dream.
