한국에서 가장 독보적인 아티스트 림킴(김예림)이 1년 3개월만에 새 싱글 “VEIL”을 발매한다. 오랜만에 발표하는 이번 싱글은 “FALLING”에 이어 다시 한번 깊이와 세련됨을 동시에 느낄 수 있는 팝 음악이다. “VEIL”은 최근 트렌드에 가까운 리듬에 일렉트로닉 음악의 요소가 더해진 동시에 림킴(김예림) 특유의 음색에 집중하게 되는 곡이며, 림킴(김예림)이라는 보컬의 표현력과 존재감에서 오는 매력을 지난 싱글에 이어 만나볼 수 있다.
곡의 제목이자 가사에 담긴 ‘베일’은 두 가지 의미를 지니고 있다. 하나는 ‘베일’ 듯이 날 선 긴장감, 그리고 다른 하나는 더 확실히 진짜 모습을 볼 수 있게 ‘VEIL’을 벗으라는 의미다. 자칫 가볍게 느껴질 수 있는 팝 넘버에 곡의 이야기가 표현될 수 있었던 것은 온전히 림킴(김예림)의 음색, 그 음색을 바탕으로 한 전달의 역할이 크다.
이번 곡에는 유일무이한 커리어와 음악으로 입지를 다진 수민(SUMIN)을 비롯해 박재범, 펀치넬로, 소코도모 등 여러 아티스트와 협업한 것은 물론 SM 엔터테인먼트의 iScreaM 시리즈에서 두 차례 리믹스를 선보인 바 있는 Will Not Fear, 프로미스 나인 등 여러 앨범에서 작곡가로 이름을 올린 HONGSAMMAN은 물론 NCT DREAM의 “맛 (Hot Sauce)”, 아스트로의 “Knock(널 찾아가)” 등을 쓴 문여름 작사가, 카이의 “Blue” 등을 쓴 장한빛 작사가가 참여해 곡의 완성도를 높였다.
