    The Barbados pitch really wasn't helping the spinners at all. And I'm glad we won on a track like that. The allegations would have been unbearable if Axar and Kuldeep just ran through the the South African batting order. I think Rohit was a bit lucky - he bowled Axar for one over too many when he should have turned to Hardik. Spin was coming on superbly onto the bat on this pitch - in fact, in retrospect, you do wonder if India should have played Siraj. And, as folks have pointed out here, this was probably a 200 run pitch with that Indian lineup. They could have accelerated more in the middle. Anyway, these things are basically irrelevant given India won and that Jaddu, Kohli and Rohit are retiring

    I think it's good that Virat batted slow, because he just isn't a bang bang guy and like the previous matches, would have gotten out and it would have been 40 for 4. He has his limitations and decided to play more instinctively and traditionally and yes, that put the pressure on the other side to hit, but Axar and Dube did that. I didn't really think he should have been in the T20 team to begin with, but that's India cricket for you - a bunch of old cricketers club, to butcher a phrase. He didn't need to go all out in the final by playing crazy risky shots for 6s. He could have continued playing his very safe shots and still scored a few more boundaries or 4s with the ball running on the ground and not lifting his bat.it is absolutely ridiculous and unjustifiable to be playing freaking test cricket in a T20 final for ANY COUNTRY on a decent batting pitch. This wasn't like any of the semi final pitches or those horrid US pitches. I mean look at Klassen 's innings? Instead of batting at strike rate of 128 he could have batted at a strike rate of 140 so that India wouldn't even be in a position where we almost lost the match if not for fantastic bowling from Hardik and Bumrah! The only reason to play test cricket in a T20 match is if the pitch is rubbish amd horriblet for ALL BATTERS but that was not the case in the final!

      @@harifederer Like I said, I wasn't expecting him to go crazy and try to bat at 180 to 200 strike rate which he never does. If all batters from both teams are struggling to score runs on a batting pitch, that means that's not a good pitch suitable for batting conditions cuz it's very slow and sluggish right? But that was not true for the final. I mean just take a look at Klassen's innings who scored a 52 at 190 strike rate. Was he struggling to score runs? So there was no excuse for Kohli to bat so ridiculously slowly and not score at least 1 boundary every over and he was batting for 6 to 8 over with not a single boundary and was just putting that unfair pressure on his batting partner which is not true sportsmanship and I know everyone is praising his 76 and 50 plus balls but I personally find Axar and Klassen's batting far more impressive cuz it's fearless and they were batting for the team first and not personal records. And I know if India lost the final when SA just had to score 25 runs off 24 balls, no one including Kohli fans would blame Kohli for the loss. They would be cursing Bumrah and the other bowlers for failing to score crucial wickets under pressure and either way, Kohli would have been let off the hook. I am glad he retired from T20, cuz 1 thing that seems certain, the younger generation like Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku, etc will bat more fearlessly like Klassen for the team than for personal records and one's own glory!

  • @harifederer
    @harifederer Před 4 dny

    Ross’s comment that if Kohli got out for 50, it would have been a bad innings is such a useless statement and certainly not an arguement against his innings at all. It’s like picking up any great innings ever played and saying ‘Well if they got out for a duck, it would have been bad’.
    No one is saying he won them the game individually but not did anyone else. It was an overall team effort as it often is. But fact of the matter is he salvaged the team from potentially getting a much lower score after they lost their three most prolific scorers of the tournament in the power play and ensured they put up a par score to give their bowlers something. Saying he should have batted more aggressively is academic since you could literally always make that argument if the other team ends up chasing the target. Perhaps some flak should go to the poor bowling by the Indian spinners and Rohit’s overuse of them?

    SA lost partly because of the same reason why India lost the 2023 wc- the lack of batting depth. In that wc indian batting ended at 7 and until the final nobody was able to get to the number 7 to break open india. Similarly here SA had 6 batters, and jansen at 7. He's a useful batter but jansen is not an international number 7 now at all. Probably a good number 8, india had Axar patel at number 8 as opposed to that. Just like india and odi wc nobody until the final was able to to get to SA number 6 ans 7 to break it open. Also i don't understand why sa keeps batting maharaj instead of rabada in t20s. It makes sense in Odis, but maharaj is a useless batter in t20s, while rabada can atleast swing his arse off..
