      It's a given for most Africans that we speak more than 2 or 3 languages. I mean, you have your national language, mother tongue, English, and if you come from an intertribal family, an extra one. Then you have the others that you learn.

    That Myung Soo guy was being a bit racist and I'm glad Yoo Jae Suk corrected him several times(definitely why he's the Nation's favorite MC). Even though this is a comedic variety show, using racist jokes as humor isn't right. I'm glad Sam Otswiri took it lightly and went with the flow, laughing. :)

      After watching happy together 4-5 years I have notice that Myung soo is just ass to all his guest. He says stupid jokes to everyone but actually I think its good that he said some of those things he said because there are many korean who believe what he said about afrika is correct. MC yoon is amazing. I love him even more now :) And Kang Hodong is my another fav MC. Also I'm african and if I were in that show i would had teach muyng soo how to behave :)

    wth is up with these comments about "turning against your own homeland?" At which point in this episode do they belittle their own country? If they were not proud of their country would they be speaking and rapping in your own language and showing your own traditional folk dance in front of camera that's viewed by millions of Koreans? I don't understand these weird people leaving strange comments....

    •  Před 10 lety +40

      Honestly, even if they'd dislike their own country, it's no one else's but their own business. And it wouldn't make them "betrayers" or bad people. In my country, people who even migrate are called betrayers - that's such a backward, narrow, close-minded and unfounded view... apparently shared world-wide.

    I don't think they were trying to be racist. This was pure ignorance. Korea is still getting use to the whole foreigners thing. So it very possible some of the stuff being said wasn't out of hate and Racism but ignorance. And the guest handled it well. Idk I think KBS should do this again! Maybe the more foreign guest they have and the more they can all sit and get to know each other and interact with each other might put a stop to some of the ignorance.

    • @utena90210
      @utena90210 Před 10 lety +19

      Yes pretty much. Like stuff you would no better then to say to someone in the US because It could be seen as Racist they don't really see in Korea because they aren't exposed to Foreigners. They are just getting used to it. So pretty much some of the Host/MC's were saying things to the guest that were pretty culturally insensitive.

    • @jocelynj4049
      @jocelynj4049 Před 10 lety +8

      I don't see any ignorance in this conversation :/ I mean we can't just assume everyone knows about foreigners. This is a show after all, meaning even though the MCs probably already know about what they were asking for they still have to ask and broadcast it so us as audience would be more interested and get into it to watch. Especially for people who are innocence and didn't know a thing about these people, obviously they would like to know. It's not the MCs fault, at the end it depends on the guests who were answering questions. They have to choose their words carefully and think beforehand. I know it is a pity that the majority of them show lack of interest with their own country but it's their opinion and we have to respect it. I do hope they say more optimistic things about their countries but what can I say? I think they fell in love with Korea. Border line, I enjoy this show. That what matters for me :)

      Yanna Bear South Africa has indigenous tribes with naked people, but its sooooo rare, like not even 1%. And animals are in reserves, not with people, just for you guys' information. However, its just generalisation, and to be fair, you will find tons of westerners who think all Asians eat dog, and Psy is their music god. If you dont take interest in other cultures, there is no reason you should know otherwise.

      Western ideals of your so called racism (occidentalism) don't apply in such media format for most Asian countries. It's rather a common ignorance due to lack of exposure as Korea was isolated for such a long period of time to foreigners.

Last summer i went to South Korea and fell in love with the country, people, food, and culture. My grandfather passed away the fallowing September. Kpop, kdramas, and taekwondo pulled me through it. In Korea I earned a gold medal in Poomsae. My grandfather was so proud. He loved me telling him and showing the pictures of Korea. Right now i am working hard to earn money to go back and get another gold medal for my grandfather. Thank you Korea for making my grandfather proud and pulling me through a rough time!

Otswiri was pretty cool about everything though and laughed it out :) Park Myungsoo should watch what he says a little bit though and know that many foreigners watch this show and can get really offended... Sam Ham is the coolest though, he seems really chill and nice :D Love him in Real Men too. It was mostly saying stereotypes which mostly everyone in every race tend to have.

    There were lots of negative articles and furious comments on Park Myung Soo from this episode few weeks ago(since this episode was aired few weeks ago in korea). First of all, I, as a Korean citizen, sincerely apologize to the people of Ghana or to anyone who was offended by watching this episode. Park Myung Soo is a very famous MC in South Korea and he is known for arrogant and rude MC and that is why made him popular. You may find this odd. but if you think about Asian culture which suggests you to be polite and humble all the time, Park Myung Soo isnt. This is why it makes him rare and funny. However, this does not give him a right to talk like that. As I mentioned earlier, majority of people are mad at him and I've noticed so many comments like, "I am very afraid if foreigners are watching this".
    By the way, I'd like to talk about some black humors and racist jokes about Asians made from USA or any other countries. I am pretty sure i dont have to explain anything in detail. I live in the States, I feel racism occasionally. Seeing comments like, "If this happened in USA, they are gonna rot in jail...blah blah..." makes me laugh. Plz do not treat South Korea as barbaric or uncivilized country becuz of this one episode. Once again, I am truly sorry about this as one of Korean.

    • @wongim6602
      @wongim6602 Před 10 lety +3

      ***** his hair isnt real. he intentionally wears that wig on happy together for show purpose, i guess.
      About his brand of humor, like I said his character on TV is rare unlike other celebrities aka public figures. On Korean TV you hardly see a someone being rude to the other. This is why there are some people like to watch Park Myung Soo becuz he does something what other people won't do. However, there are lots of people who still hate him becuz some people still find being evil isnt funny no matter what.
      By the way, I said this is his character on TV. I ve heard his actual characteristic is very warm-hearted. He just simply acting on the show.
      Additionally, I wanna let you know that the translation that brought by KBS here is like almost 60% done. They dont really translate anything.. they use lots of word plays and korean has its own expression and idioms but they are not translating any of those...

I think Sam part was really ignorance and that's why he looked up on the computer and he believed Korea was like this because of a Korean show and clearly the other man was a backlash and trying to hurt Sam by being racist when sam wasn't coming from that place. Like I said Korea May be homogenous but bitch this ain't the 18th century we have computers and I know they have black artist that come to Korea to do shows and they have American bases in Korea plus if they know how white people look and they invite them on shows why can't they do the same for other ethnicities

It's not that they are racist, they just are ignorant. Most of the older Koreans do not travel as much, and they are not exposed to foreigners or their cultures. Actually it's great that these foreigners are gaining such love and popularity in Korea because it shows how Korea as a whole is becoming more open-minded and accepting of foreign cultures.

Usually this is a side dish and we eat it with a fork and knife. This fusion thing he did is malarky, but he hasnt been in America (as a citizen for a very long time I guess), and ingredients might hard to find to make something, (unless they have towns like Little America there),... but still...

      Yeah I guess.
      It's just always so funny when there's a drastic change in skin complexion. You would think that would be taken into consideration lol.

      rae t My bf is Caucasian and my Asian relative said... he looks like Tom Cruise! I was like.... not at all he was never told that ever in his life...
      The distance between eyebrows and eyes are short, perhaps Tom is also like that, but sadly she's never really associated with any other white person so although it was probably to compliment him, to us it was a sour moment.

    Im Ghana and Im so happy to see Sam representing us and showing them Azonto!! loool
    Btw, when he spoke Twi, the main language in Ghana and one of many 'native languages', he basically said: "Ive come so I am greeting you right now that we are sitting here...you don't understand what I'm saying right now"
    Ghanaians don't speak French, we were colonised by the British...Idk why he said that tbh!
    Love the multiculturalism!
