I lost my instructions and wouldn’t have read them anyway and I had it figured out except for the thing with the wire attached that goes to the horn button. Now I know what to do with it in my 66 El Camino. Thanks a million!

Absolutely perfect, exactly what I needed! Grant doesn’t even do this good of a job. Gotta find my wire that comes up the steering column now on my 89 YJ. PO had hooked up a separate button and I keep mashing the new steering wheel horn instead of the button! Thank you.

I suggest you try stepped bits to open up such holes in the future. :)
They are also perfect for plastic, especially polycarbonates.
And tape the spring in place.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING A DETAILED VIDEO.. GOD BLESS YOU.
I think cave men drew the drawing on the grant instructions.. Not sure why Grant, Ididit, Or speedway could make a vidEo this good..
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
I spent at least an hour struggling with this in my garage.
New Ididit column and New grant steering wheel and new install kit..
I am defiantly giving you a like, follow and share!!

Hey thanks for making the video. Like yours, my steering column and wheel does not line up for the isolation sleeve/post for the horn wire. No schematics just a list of instructions with descriptions of components that makes for a guessing game to what is what. I wanted to see if other installers had to modify the parts or I was doing it wrong. You would think the makers would have some agreed or recognized standard for all th pieces to work together. Sadly no. Thanks again.🎉

What do you do when the screw connecting the signal arm is making contact with the horn diaphragm and grounding out?

What size did you use for the black cover ? Any chance of adding the link for the kit ?

Couldn’t you put springs around the other three bolts instead of the center bolt to keep the horn button out?

Thanks for the video!! I should have watched it before I damaged my orange contact ring thingy. I can't find them online anywhere! The OEM horn repair kit seems to be a different set up. Can you tell me where to get that horn ring?

I just ordered a Grant horn kit from Summit after I found the steering wheel I wanted.

Stupid question. Isn’t there supposed to be bearing race nut to hold preload on that race?
Then a heaving duty spring? I really don’t know. I’m just asking..
Thanks for the share by the way!

What did you use to remove the plate from the splines? The tools I've found don't fit or seem to help

With 3 shouldered bolts removed, match the thread to a puller bolt in your steering wheel puller kit. Most likely 1/4” -20 Threads Per Inch. The push bolt needs extreme pressure lube but fits the steering shaft center with nut & washer removed.
Note; not a diode, carbon sliding contact with copper caps on it. A little dielectric grease will keep it quit. Bolts have shoulders not lips. Horn cover (Chrome) has indentations not nipples. Mammals have nipples (expect whales) covers have indentations. He’s done hundreds, I’ve done thousands. Better late than never. Best regards! ASE Master Tech since 1978 - Retired

We had a guy wire his coworker’s horn to his brake pedal so when he stopped at a red light his horn would honk.

Great video! Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have a 79K7 the steering wheel components are just like yours. When I plug the black wire to the orange thing the horn goes off. Not sure why?

    • @mafosa8519
      @mafosa8519 Před 4 lety

somewhere within those two wires. one is touching ground. need a ohm meter to figure out which one.

@@mafosa8519 Thanks I actually figured it out and silly me I had just not put the horn cap tight enough so that is why the metal part would fall and touch. I made sure I tighten the horn cap and now it works fine.

Those 3 smaller bolts hold the steering wheel to the mounting casting. If you leave these out if you dont want to use the horn assembly, the steering wheel could theoreticly spin on the casting. The center nut could work loose with enough left turns.Happened to me......

If you use installation kit 3162 and follow instructions there is no need to back and wobble. Good starting point otherwise.

Worst design I ever seen, have this exact one on my 71 Mach 1 Mustang and the horn cap constantly flys off if you hit a bump going down the road then the horn starts going crazy .
