Great Fight. Thanks for upload. Life didn't turn out so good for both men after their Boxing Careers. Both men have had issues with the law and Pavlik has battled Drug Abuse & Alcoholism. It's sad but both men are still very young so their is hope for getting their lives in order.
Pavlik is boozing his life away but Taylor seems like he's got legitimate brain damage. His behavior has been downright downright crazy in recent years. Jermain was on the receiving end of some vicious KOs and it looks like they took their toll.
Great in-fight commentary. Notice how all 3 are talking about the fight? As opposed to a Tony Cornhouserbthoe that give us history leasons while we’re trying to watch a fight.
I don't see that at all. I think Pavlik has neither the skill nor the athleticism, that Taylor possesses. It's just that Pavlik is much more relaxed, tough and a decent puncher, whereas Taylor is nervous and not as tough mentally.
what a good boxing match up...these two did not bring any street antic, tricks or illigal blows to the back of the head to win... these two accually respect the sport .. they both are winners
I thought this was an even fight for the first 6-8 rounds until Taylor began to tire, like always, and Pavlik remained the consistent fighter. Pavlik won this fight by outworking him. Good scrap though.
Yeah; Taylor had the most blatant weakness of any fighter outside of a punch-out video game. His stamina was the cause of almost literally every fight he lost and was clearly displayed even in a few fights he won. Vs B-hop 1, Vs Pavlik 2, Vs Froch, Vs Arthur, and Vs Wright. It's too bad he never got that shit under control. Who else outboxed Hopkins (at least, the 2nd time) and Wright (debatably)? Two of the most difficult tactical boxers in the history of the game and he fought them almost back to back. Nobody would take those fights, now.
If Taylor would’ve just tidied up his technique throw more straight punches and improved his conditioning he could’ve had a great run.. he misses so many wide punches which is why I think he tends to tire. Amazing how he beat Hopkins twice while technically being rather sloppy
I thought Taylor would be the winner in these bouts with Pavlik, but Pavlik fought with discipline and landed the harder punches and had the better stamina. Great fights, I'll be enjoying these bouts in the years ahead. Sorry to hear that the future of these two would end up so disastrously. Pavlik may not have had all the tools in his repertoire that Taylor had, but he used what he did have more effectively.
Taylor's main problem was lack of stamina in both fights, though I think he did better in the rematch. He looked absent-minded at times in the first fight. And those concentration lapses cost him the fight at the end, coupled with the stamina issues. For me he was a better fighter of the two. He had a better skill set and more pop in his punches.
Great, evenly matched MW fight here. Pavlik was just so hungry at this stage of his career. He trained like an animal, and would have had a long reign at 160 if he didn' try to blow u to 170 to fight Hopkins. He would have KO'd Martinez if he wasn't already spoiled by the money and limelight, and strugged to make 160, and not to mention had been in and out of rehab for alcoholism at this point. He still only lost by a few rounds to a prime Martinez and only then due to the blood flowing in his eye last 4 rounds.
Taylor 6'2 Pavlik 6'3. There is no way these two weren't at least a buck eighty for this cruiserweight fight. I think Taylor edged him but Pavlik was the champion. If the first fight went like this, Taylor would have kept his belt.
There was actually no title on the line for this rematch. Taylor asked to fight at a catch weight of 166 & Pavlik accepted it. Even if Pavlik lost this fight he would’ve still remained the WBC & WBO titles
Taylor beat Hopkins, the most boring fighter in the history of the world, twice. JT is a hero in my book and I was always rooting for him. Sad he couldn't find the energy in the later rounds.
The best comment here by far!👍 Well said! True, Bernard Hopkins is the most boring fighter in the history of boxing! Never enjoyed his fights. Jermaine Taylor would have retired many a fighter had he not have stamina issues. He was controlling the fight up to round 7, then he started fading. Otherwise great fight.
im here cause im a HUGE Pavlik fan, but neither guy was a paper champion... the belt Cotto now holds is the same belt both these guys held, its the lineal 160 mw belt.
I always thought it was simple. Hopkins didn't make Taylor work hard enough to tire him out in the later rounds, and lacked the power that Pavlik and Froch had. Taylor was the perfect foil for BHop--technically gifted enough to go toe to toe with him, fast enough to win exchanges with him, and tough enough to not worry about getting knocked out by him.
I'm sure Jermain Taylor was MUCH more humble and harder working for this fight; both men have serious, real deal American guts to go back in with the other.
@@antomat85 American guts: you know, the reason we're the number 1 world superpower and all the other countries have to base everything around what we do...like yours; that's what it is.
Sometimes it's never enough to 'edge' the champion. Had Taylor not gassed in the later rounds, he most probably would have won the fight... convincingly.
good fight. one of those that was kinda close but still with a clear winner. Pavlik should've had a longer career. His 1-2 was enough to KO martinez if he trained harder and was more focused. taylor also went off the deep end. people majorly bailed on taylor during all this, felt bad for him. as a few comments have said, sad end for both men.
I never understood Taylor's weird little pre-fight dance. Was he trying to work up enough static electricity to shock his opponents when he first touched them?
Its weird how quickly Pavlik boxing career went down hill after this fight. He only lost twice to Hopkins & to Sergio but its like he lost those two fights. Then he fought 4 more times against no names basically then retired... I don't understand what happened to him
Alcoholism and weight issues. He looked horrible against Hopkins, when he should've looked more solid, because he was always HUGE for middleweight and increasing weight should've improved him basically everywhere, yet he looked even less muscular than he had at 160. By the time he fought Sergio, he had already been to rehab and everything. Probably should've just taken off from boxing right after Hopkins, but that would be like if Shawn Porter took off right now; he was still hanging around the top of the p4p board and worth huge money they weren't going to just let walk away. By the time he got somewhat straight and had some tune up fights, he was getting too old for the young man's sport. He still ended up becoming fat, thereafter, but I heard he cleaned up a ways after his career had been over. Too bad the same can't be said for Taylor.
Mentally he checked out.. wasn’t training the same, had issues with alcoholism and drug use.. it’s hard to be as motivated once you reach the top most guys become complacent. A shame because he was very talented! Iron chin, fantastic conditioning, snapping 1-2.
if taylor had done the same for the first fight he would have won it and maybe he shouldn't have done this rematch. si taylor hubiera hecho lo mismo para la primera pelea la hubiera ganado y quizas no tuviera que haber hecho esta revancha.
the bad thing for taylor is that pavlik manage his power shots! pavlik he just eat the power punch of taylor that fuckin job of kelly is so fuckin amazing so effective it bothered taylor all night long...
I remember this fight as being very close and feeling that Taylor MAY have pulled it out. However, he probably just didn't do enough to TAKE the titles back.
