Your techniques helped me dearly. I got 10% since that was in the budget. There was no negotiation process, but it's better than zero. They also said that if I get a certain credential, I will get a second raise.

As info, I work on a small team of myself and my more experienced co worker. Iâve been in this new position for a year and between her and I we have brought in 1.8 million in revenue for the company. She pulled me aside and told me I should ask for a raise. Should I mention to my boss that my coworker believes Iâm ready as well? When the check on my performance they always check with her to ask how Iâm doing. She always has great things to say.

Hi Don, I work at Amazon and not sure how to ask for raise since every conversation we have our managers use the hiring freeze, layoffs, the current state of economy as excuses whether conversation is about benefits or workload, so my manager said we need more people in the team but we have hiring freeze so it is what it is. The problem is our managers have no say and cannot change anything about hiring freeze.
What if you find out other companies are paying 30-40% more than what you make doing the exact same job? Should this be brought up? I learned other companies have increased wages because the cost of living has gone up so much in my city. 30/ 40% is a lot.

This is my second year where I work , I work in the trade industry as a machinist lately there wasnât enough work, they offered me if I would be interested working in the fabrication dept temporarily, I said yes showing I support the company where they need me , accepted being the person who likes to help, I have performed way past expectations, I have completed complex tasks, I have also created system for mass production, I feel I deserve a raise so far nothing has been mentioned as great in great job ,they are quickly to out point out mistakes đI find they are building this wall of defence to keep you from asking for a raise, yes itâs time , my question is , is it too much to ask for 1.00$ raise though technically I am handling 2 trades? , what do you think? or if anyone can give input ? , thanks.

Machine guys making $19-22 hr
Mig Welders making $21-25 hr
Fitters and fabrication guys making $24-28

During the last interview, the manager sold me the company like she wanted me to work with her. Everything was great in every aspect. Nothing could go wrong.
But after the last interview, 2 days after HR told me through the LinkedIn that the manager liked me A LOT but she didn't select me for the job. Instead she sent me to the "talent pool"

absolutely.
This is one of those topics that I don't think there is a 'right' answer for...but there are definitely 'wrong' answers...ways NOT to ask for a raise. Don hits on the highlights quick which is nice - individualizing your part of the accomplishment you share in is a big one; remind them of your success. Leadership is easily the biggest element of this though - are you capable and interested in being a bigger part of your organization's mission? Without an increase in your commitment to your employer...unless your industry has changed A LOT in a very short time, the worth of the work (or more appropriately, the valuation that YOUR employer has for that work) probably will not have appreciated as much as you want to ask for in a raise. Being 'underpaid' is not as simple as looking on the internet for what the average salary 'is.'
There are professional environments that are more intensive than where you work, probably. Ask yourself if you understand the *industry.* The average employee LOSES money for their employer for about 6 months until they figure things out and apply them at the quality level and the speed at which the business needs to operate. If you can short-circuit that timeline and demonstrate that you can provide value well ahead of that 6 month timeline - you are probably a good candidate to ask for a raise...but just realize that the thing that companies want more than good workers is good managers and leaders that carry forward their values and mission.
I work in healthcare as a hospital registrar insurance clerk. I only make 16/hr. Iâve been a clerk for 12 years. I have a Bachelor of Arts in biology. I havenât been able to find work elsewhere. My dad suggests teaching but the school shootings concerns me. Any suggestions? My boss is tight. Iâve been there 3 years and only got a 30 cent raise.

Itâs time for you to shop around for a job that you enjoy and support your lifestyle. A .30 cent raise from your employer says it all- they are not recognizing your efforts and loyalty. Dump that employer like a cheap and broke boyfriend.
