I don't know if you have knowledge about the design industry, but I wonder if you can help me with a small question that is so specific that the answer is not readily available anywhere I could find: When making my resume as a graphic designer or an illustrator, is including my own website/shop* a good or detrimental thing to add to my resume? * I'm aware that people generally do advise to include *personal websites*, but the focus of mine is the shop, I wonder if it would misdirect potential recruiters into thinking that what they see on my website is exactly what I would do for them (which is not the intention) or take it as intended: that I've created a full brand and can be resourceful.

The objective statement is a cultural feature and a contextual feature. I remember, years ago, when my European students were required to write an objective statement (at the time it was called "state your goals") and how baffled they were. "I want to get the job. What do they mean by goals" was their most frequent question. In many countries, people apply for specific jobs, they don't just throw resumes to companies. Therefore, the objective statement is annoyingly redundant as it states the obvious fact that you are applying for the job you are being selected. It not oudated, its simply pointless in many countries. If you are sending a resume in case a company might be interested in you, yes, it makes sense to detail the type of position you want. Isn't this obvious from the context? The idea that your full address "does not add value to your application" is somewhat bizarre. Your name does not add value to your application (unless nepotism plays a role in staff selection), but is necessary. Full addresses, at least in Europe, are important information. Adding value is a suggestive concept, but unfortunately does not say how, what and why you are adding value. If someone is giving advice on something that is still subjective (staff recruiting), unless you support your advice with some kind of fact, it will be a collection of opinions (informed by experience, but limited by personal byass -we all have that and contrasting with data, frequently makes us reconsider our "rules"). I understand that reading dozens of resumes is boring and that making it easy for the recruiters helps somewhat candidates, but some rules mentioned here seem as personal preferences.

This is great advice. I’m over 50 and sent out over 400 resumes. When I get a single interview, I’ll let you know. At my current pace. It should be 10 years before I get 10 interviews.

I'm not willing to lie about anything to get a job, so I guess that counts me out for a lot of them. Employers don't want the truth as much as they want to hear what they want to hear. And it's natural for a man not to like anyone who has authority over him, and that's actually healthy male behavior. But it's also healthy to be able to work well with people for a common cause even when you don't like them.

I'm interviewing today for a job I need and want. I live in a remote, unpopulated area, yet there is a small employer one mile from home who is paying an above-average salary. When I clicked on this video, I wondered if the advice is going to be "ask for the job.". I did that instinctively at my last interview and got the job. My interviewer who would be my superviser, made me feel comfortable and I liked her. It was genuine when I told her I'd really to have to have the job. Good luck everyone!

I hate that we have to lie in interviews America is such BS.

Point 4 depends on the situation. In technical jobs it's far better to know your limits than to try and bullshit your way through something you don't understand. In an interview I might explain how I've gone about tackling a job in the past where I had no previous experience and had to educate myself on the fly.

Excellent tips, Sir! My greatest weaknesses are saying no and lacking experience. On the latter, I have become a life-long learner almost to the extreme. I don't mention that in any interview, but it's something I've identified about myself. Is t good or is it bad? Who knows?!? :)

If they ask me tough questions, I will do the same. "How long has this position been vacant? Why did my predecessor leave? I've seen this same job posting from your company being posted 8 times in the past 3 years, why? "
