    I’ve worked as a wrench in some of the camps.
    It was glorious. The trucks were a big part of it.
    The tanks behind the cab are massive and must be coolant for brakes.
    I hadn’t seen em on off hi-way but were common on Washington trucks back in the day.
    People will never know.

    I worked at Scott paper. Logging camp at Lester wa. Early 70’s . Log truckers had a 100 gallon water tank behind the cab . Driver turned the valve on before departing the logging site (landing) . The water was directed over the brake drums on the trailer !!! They looked like they were on fire going down the mountain !! Stream rolling off creating a 50 foot long plume of steam !!

    I love those old trucks. Used to drive a old hayes with ol Detroit and pacific with k model Cummins for my old boss. They weren't fast but they would pull

    You can tell it's a Detroit by looking at thermostat housing plus it looks green. Is that plumbing in the cab for water-cooled brakes???

    Back in the 1980s I worked on a R 600 Mack and found copper pennies in the front brake hose fittings.Maybe the older trucks were safer to drive without front brakes.

      @@eaglewi If the front brakes lock up, you lose your steering. That's why some drivers would put copper pennies in the front axle brake hoses to shut off the air.

      Primitive antilock brakes. Trucks didn't have to have steer axle brakes till 1980

      we used dimes the front brakes were just to iffy and they would pull one way or the other alot in the winter. I drove a kw with a 3408 in it built in 1980 didnt even have front brakes at all

    Good thing that’s far, far away from me or I’d want to haul it all into my yard and just stare at it. The neighbors would not be as thrilled.
    BTW, any hints about how to spot the differences between Hayes and Pacific? The relatively few examples I’ve seen use the same paint schemes (yellow w/green hood, etc.)

    Are there any company's that restore these trucks and put them back to work
    I would love to just restore them all day and hear them come to life when it rolls out of the shop

      One,called Coast Powertrain.The big logging companies like Lemare lake logging,Holbrook dyson Logging,etc,rebuild an their own fleets regularly

      No fiberglass noses or aluminum cabs, or frames, or wheels either! In logging, only steel (and Stihl) will do.

    Onece they get striped their never coming back but some one might be looking for what is left its nuts the prices of equipment thease days wish dad never sold any thing 10,000 20.000 for jd 450 track loader you cant buy a pece of junk dozer for under 5000 and its a junk and people are geting it because decent newer stuff its nothing to spend 30,000 for decent 90s dozzer. Same as skid steers 20 to 100,000 its crazzy parts are nuts 300 for exaust for 40 year old crawler money pits even if you do your own work

    I've always loved old trucks, but I wasn't aware of Hayes or Pacific brands. Thought I knew almost all of em.

      @@donellmuniz590 Yes all were local designed and built for the BC rugged remote coast with timber as big as 20 feet across,no highway truck would survive the daily abuse.

      Even if the museum were to act as a centre for volunteers to do the work?
