Or #4, You took your car the the dealer and they put too much oil and then when pointed out, they say "look" the oil is on the H. Then you go home feeling like a fool wondering how you could have been so wrong... so you pull out the dipstick so you get a better look at instead of the service guy waving in your face screaming that the oil is on the H. That's when you realize that there are 2 holes, one is H and one is L for "High" and "Low" . The full mark is the hole NOT the H above the hole.

You are correct. Just last week my neighbor took his Toyota which he brought new not long ago for his first oil change at his dealer. On his way to work, his car engine was making a knocking noise and he had to pull over on the side of the road. He had to have his car towed to the nearest dealer which was late at night. He had to rent a car to get home. The next day, the mechanic at that dealer said his car had 5 too many quarts. The person that did his oil change didn’t drain the old oil out. That cost the company over $2500 in repairs. I always check my oil myself before leaving the dealer.

Don’t worry a quart over or under won’t harm anything. It’s called a forgiveness factor. The engineers know that some dealer or yourself might do this. CZcams Bob Likis will over fill oil harm oil pressure sensors. He is a top mechanic and explain more.

You can buy a suction pump with rubber flexible tube for cheap money that goes in the oil dip stick tube to drain the oil. Many mechanics have these in there shops. No need to get under the vehicle to remove overfill. Auto parts stores Big box stores Amazon sell these.

I bought and audi that has a permanent (add oil light) comes on often. Since theres no dipstick im assuming old owner kept adding oil. When i changed the oil it had almost 10qrts. Its a 09 A4. At first it would smoke a lot. Still smokes a little. Could that be because its burning it out ? I already did valve seals, oil separator.

Are there any other steps to take? There are no leaks on the floor just once I noticed white smoke. Ty for all your help. Cheers from Montreal

I noticed you're taking the dipstick down to where it just bumps the shaft not shoving it down where it locks is that how you're supposed to do it properly because if I do it the way you're doing it it's not over full but if you shove it all the way down in there it would seem over full so which is it you just take it down to where it bumps the shaft not where it locks in

    Sorry for giving trouble.
I approach for your expert second opinion for my observation in my car Caren with Turbo charged petrol engine
1). Recently Engine oil filled by Service Centre is 1.0 cm more than Full/Max. Level
On drawing their attention, they say to us not to bother.
    Is their assurance correct ?
Because Read somewhere that excess engine oil can damage system.
In that case does it applicable to engine of Caren also.
2). Normally observed cabin as well engine sound of a petrol car is SILENT.
But in my Caren it is noisy.
Like to know Is it normal in Caren bcoz while drawing attention of Service people, they does not find it unusual.

Is it possible that engine does not start after over filling oil ?
I have a car sitting for a year without running, it has oil leakage somewhere so i filled the oil and accidentally put little over limit .. battery was dead , so i jump start from other car , the engine is cranking but not turning on .. i was wondering, may be because of extra oil .. is it possible ?

    • @3dstaco
      @3dstaco Před 3 lety +1

You should still remove the .5 liters of oil. More oil affects the lubrication of the engine. You could get away with it, but it will take a few thousand miles off your car's life and performance.
