Honestly, if she really wanted to, she could play left handed. Just find a lefty guitar. She only needs one finger to strum or two if you’re using a pick, which is perfect for her left hand missing the two fingers. Her right hand can be used to play notes. She legit just has to flip the guitar around or find a specifically lefty guitar.

No. He was arguably incredibly wrong for doing that. However, while maybe that's not the super do-no-wrong kind of hero your black and white definitions believe in, Joel's *not* a villain for that choice. He acted selfishly, but not out of malice. I love how this game recontextualizes the first game. Every person in this world has an ellie, and everyone has a joel. By the end of the game, Abby is no better than joel, and Ellie is no better than abby, and Joel's dead. Ellie refusing to kill abby was the only thing that could have happened to break the cycle. If abby died, Lev totally would have gone on the same killing spree as ellie, relentlessly hunting her down and losing himself just like she did. All of these characters have so much in common, two sides of one coin, and i couldnt help but imagine them getting along as friends if the circumstances were different. The game isnt trying to make you feel guilty, its trying to make the world feel more real by showing you that even the antagonists have lives just as complex as joel's or ellie's.

I think it's so awesome that you took a game you had a negative experience with and tried to delve deep to find the positive aspects you may have missed out on. I really appreciate and learned a lot from what you had to say here. I actually really disagree with the suggestion you made about the pacing though. It's commonly taken for granted by TLOU2's critics that ND's intention is to "*make* the player empathize with Abby." And with that assumption stated, it's then easy to think of ways ND could have made it "easier" for the player to like/empathize with her. I think the reason these criticisms don't really work (imo) is because the founding assumption about ND's intent is wrong. In my view, it's pretty clear from the ending and overall tone of the game that ND does NOT want to make empathizing with Abby easy. It's not supposed to be easy because FORGIVENESS IS NOT EASY. They want the player to struggle.
In the first game, Joel's decision to save Ellie at the end is not a difficult one. It has the illusion of difficulty, as players can discuss whether or not Joel did the right thing, but it's a very intellectual exercise because, emotionally, the game is absolutely designed to make you root and cheer for Joel to save Ellie even as he's killing doctors/nurses.
I think the second game actually retroactively improves that ending by demonstrating the reason we feel so UN-conflicted with Joel's choice-point of view. With a minor exception, we experience virtually the entire first game from Joel's perspective. So OF COURSE we're going to agree with his decision to save Ellie. Did a substantial number of players REALLY hope he'd just let her die on the operating table? I doubt it. The story's not structured that way.
But in Part 2, we get Abby's side of the story. And suddenly the relative comfort we may have felt with Joel's choice at the hospital begins to wane. The reason the "Ellie - Day 1; Abby - Day 1; Ellie - Day 2; etc" structure is not as powerful is because it mars the integrity of each respective POV. By staying in Ellie's shoes for the entirety of the three days in Seattle, we are fully immersed in her world and POV. When we switch to Abby's halfway through, it's jarring, and the inertia on which we've been coasting is completely disrupted. We are FORCED to consciously attempt to rewire our brain, remap it to ABBY'S world. Abby's POV. In other words, in my view, the so-called "pacing problem" with TLOU2 is an absolutely intentional (and effective) choice. It's part of what makes the moral dilemmas and emotional conflicts become REAL for the player. The fact that people feel so angry at the end of the game and so frustrated with Ellie's choice to spare Abby is actually proof, to me, that ND was successful in making the conflict emotionally REAL and not just an intellectual exercise (as the first game's ending "dilemma" was).
ND goes to significant lengths to NOT outright absolve Abby. She's sleeping with a man who has a pregnant girlfriend. Her own friends question her moral compass and sanity, one of whom calls her "a piece of shit." ND portrays her as a complex, flawed human being even in the second half. It doesn't go from "SHE'S THE DEVIL" to "Aw, she's an angel!" It just shows she's human. Period. And that's enough.
If ND's intent was to make it *easy* to empathize with Abby, if the intent was simplistic "revenge is bad; choose forgiveness" moralizing, the ending of the game doesn't make much sense. Think of Ellie and Joel's final conversation. Ellie says, "I don't think I can ever forgive you for that. But I would like to try." The game doesn't end with forgiveness. It's not expecting the player to have easily forgiven Abby because she plays fetch with dogs or to forgive Ellie's murderous vengeful rampage through Seattle because she used to be a sweet kid. Rather, I think there's good reason to read this as ND urging us, the player, to "try" to do the impossible-empathize with the enemy. I believe they structured the game in part so we would truly understand Ellie's dilemma, choosing between revenge and forgiveness, and really feel the weight of it.
tl;dr-It's okay to get to the end of TLOU2 having not achieved forgiveness...but ND is urging us to try.

To right all of that off because you do not like the pacing and/ or some of the decisions in the games plot just seems like a waste to me.
I personally was fine with Abby. As a History Major I can confirm that nothing is as one sided and simple as we want it to be. Which this game did a decent attempt at showing, not perfect mind you (pacing) but decent none the less.
I also respect Naughty Dogs decision to not make this game a repeat of the first and instead tell the story that they wish to tell. “The wounds of conscience always leave a scar.”
      P. Syrus
So how much of a conscientious act is it to go forward? Choosing to rest your conscience will only bring more unrest and destruction. It is more correct and more beneficial to try to forget and try to prevent the loss of conscience-blood rather than revenge...
Unscrupulousness is one of the important factors that increase grudge and hatred. Injustice and unscrupulousness have a great role in the separation, polarization and deterioration of the ties of society.
      I continue with Victor Hugo.
Being good is easy, what is difficult is being just. The most perfect just is conscience..
whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster, if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.
This quote by Friedrich Nietzsche is a reminder to measure yourself and be aware of your own thoughts.
In other words, you should always criticize yourself when you enter into a "questioning war" because your life and your own feelings always have plans for you. And the "narrative" of "The Last Of Us Part II" handles this with great mastery.
In addition, The Last Of Us Part II's script is deep, philosophical, dark, emotional and thought-provoking.
A masterpiece that has taken the industry so far and set a new bar.
Again, I will continue with a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche:
“When we are questioned on an unprepared subject, the first thought that comes to our mind is often not our own thought. But it is just a commonplace thought that belongs to our class, position, and ancestry. Self-thoughts rarely surface.”
Time, patience and thinking skills are required for high-level, powerful and philosophical “things” that are actually difficult to understand, difficult to notice. In order to find the real and the essence...
The Last Of Us Part II meaning of life, moral relativism, philosophy of empathy, self-criticism, definition of the concept of human, narrative art, creating a post-apocalyptic universe (dystopia) and blending its philosophy with the people it creates in the post-apocalyptic universe, the meaning of respect, thinking A masterpiece on meaning and emotion transfer. The Last Of Us Part II is the ultimate masterpiece of the eighth generation. And these concepts require “extremely hard thinking”.
Let me end with a final Nietzsche quote:
“The life of the enemy. Whoever lives for the sake of combating an enemy has an interest in the enemy's staying alive.”
Because maybe that person or that thing is not an enemy. It is only the key that will unlock your own conscience and your own feelings...
We cannot talk about good and evil directly, they are related and relative concepts.
Formulating that existing evil was or was not done by a God does not prevent evil from existing. Evil can be tolerated, guided by the will to live. This endurance will be through art, morality and love. Albert Camus attributes his rejection of God to the existence of evil and its abundant and violent experience by humans. According to him, the question we should ask is: Is there evil in this world? Evil, if any, is incompatible with the idea of God. In a divine order, in a world created and ruled by God, the existence of evil is inconceivable. For example, death is an evil and evil inflicts punishment on us. However, “the one who is right is the one who never kills”. This means that he cannot be God. “Either we are not free, and the almighty God is responsible for evil; or we are free and responsible but God is not omnipotent.
According to philosophers, evil harms the bond between people and the state of being human. In my opinion, kindness builds bridges between people, develops bonds and contributes to being human. Kindness is a joy that includes honor, not arrogance. So the fools and the dead are people who do not feel their conscience, do not understand themselves and become numb with this meaninglessness, this is not true peace,
Good people are actually people who have attained peace of mind and prosperity. Their difficult but constructive and strong-willed behaviors show that they trust their own worth and justice. Because the "thing" that is better than being good is conscientious justice, and this is what real goodness and real good person are.
That’s why The Last Of Us Part II is the most unique and emotional roller coaster masterpiece...

I know you say at the end you don't want to add to the negativity, but it's a bit disappointing to hear you bash on Abby so much. Sure, there's easy tricks to make us like her, but the point of the story - I think - is to show us how everyone has their own side to the story. I really liked how everyone you gun down as Ellie has a name that another "enemy" shouts out in pain. Ellie has lost so much, and I do think we're meant to care about her more, but this game shows you how she's only adding to everyone else's loss through her quest for revenge. You can still agree with her choices throughout, but I think you *should* feel a little bit ill towards the end. In the end, everyone Abby has ever know or cared about is either dead or would consider her a traitor. All she has is Lev and neither of them have a community to call home. Also, Abby was held prisoner by the Rattlers for two months and it would be rather naïve to think they wouldn't have raped her in that time, though in this regard, I'd be far more concerned about Lev. Read up on the very real-world statistics of sexual assault on the trans community, then add in the fact that this game takes place in a world without laws. Just the thought of what they probably did to that boy is disturbing.

The fact that it was such an emotionally traumatizing game. A lot of players were upset and pissed off that Joel died and Abby didn't die for it. Brilliant job! I loved The Last Of Us so much I avoided playing this game, afraid it wouldn't hold a candle. Until a week or so ago, just finished it. When Abby's story began I asked myself "What the f...?" Then understood instantly. I seriously appreciated what Naughty Dog did with the two story lines/points of view, to the point when they fought both times I was seriously conflicted, Ellie pissed me off a number of times how self righteous she was, despite understanding why. My only real complaint was the flashbacks were too long, they could have made the point in less time and the same goes for Abbie's non-combat scenes. And for the record, Abbie's a bit more of a badass than Ellie but I understand why she won. Gotta go, going to check your other video for your other thoughts. I’m gonna share my unpopular opinion; I love this game. I think it’s fantastic, probably on par with the first game. Though the first game will always be a little more emotionally impactful and important to me because it released less than a year after my dad died, so some of its subject matter hit really close to home for me.
Unfortunately, I did get spoiled on some of the biggest plot points of the games story before I got it, like Joel’s death, switching perspective to Abby halfway through the story, and Ellie sparing Abby at the end. But despite knowing all of that going in, and despite the controversies and divisiveness surrounding this game, I still loved this game in the end. And I’ll tell you why. Because to me, this game is about the stages of grief. More specifically the first 3 stages; denial, anger, and bargaining. It’s about Ellie’s journey through the stages of grief. When reading though Ellie’s journal and listening to her and Dina’s conversations all throughout Day 1, it’s clear that Ellie has been actively avoiding talking about Joel at all since they left Jackson. She avoids even mentioning his name and actively tries to steer conversations away that were about him, or just doesn’t respond altogether. That’s almost textbook denial. If you don’t talk about it, it’s not real. Next comes anger, which we first see a little of in Day 1 after Ellie has been captured and sees one of Joel’s killers, but it really starts to show in Day 2 with just how aggressive and ruthless she is. Also the fact that she brutally beat a woman (yeah she felt guilt and regret afterwards, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that she still did it). Day 3 is still anger with how she acts and her decision-making. Why continue to head to the aquarium when you have a new lead to where Tommy is? Sure, maybe it’s not him and if it is, maybe he won’t be there when you get there. But it’s a better lead than the random guess of the aquarium because you don’t even know if Tommy knows it exists. The sniper shooting a wlf’s is the much better lead. Despite her stated motivation, it’s obvious her real motivation is to still go after Abby for pure revenge and anger. And then in I guess what you call the epilogue, Ellie is in the bargaining stage. “If I just go after Abby and kill her, I’ll stop having PTSD flashbacks.” As someone who still occasionally has nightmares of when my dad died over 8 years, I can say there’s nothing you can really do to get rid of them. You just have to live with them and work your life around them. Ellie is clearly, at least to me, is trying to bargain to stop the pain, to try and live a happy life again. And while we don’t really see depression or acceptance (though maybe Ellie letting Abby go is both of those happening at the same moment), I’m fine with that since I feel like we see those two stages more often than we do the other three.
    And that’s why I personally love TLOU2

A few days ago, I finished The Last of Us 2 after managing to dodge almost all spoilers for the game for 2 years (the only spoiler I knew going into, was that Abby kills Joel, and I didn't know when, where, why, or any of the contexts). It was a genuinely great game. The pacing and story beats kind of felt all over the place? But the story didn't suffer at all from it, in my opinion. The gameplay was really hard and even unforgiving in some places, I've found. Like, I barely managed to get through some really difficult sections because the game would force me to go from some really resource draining moments into a firefight without giving me any supplies between them, so I barely had what I needed to survive (I'm looking at you, spore-infested hospital boss fight into mini boss fight into sniper-dodging bridge scene). I was surprised Tommy surprised his being shot in the head by Abby, but I'm glad he did. Every character that I wanted to survive (Ellie, Dina, Abby, and Lev), survived, so I'm happy about that. I feel like there's enough wiggle room for a third game, though I'm not sure how they'd do it. I just get this vague sense that the story doesn't have to be over from where it ended. But if it does end here, I could be satisfied with it, even if it is incredibly bittersweet, though leans more heavily on bitter (in a good way). If I had to give a criticism about the game that I really didn't like, it'd be how often it felt like stealth was kind of just ripped away as an option. It felt like there were more times than not where enemies, alerted or otherwise, were just so tightly backed together that it was impossible to get around them without alerting anyone. And stealth sections would go on for ages, like there was even one time where I'm pretty sure I made slow but steady progress through an area, but it still took me an hour to get through it, even without having to reset, because the group of enemies just would not end no matter how far I went. Like I said, really unforgiving game, even on Normal difficulty. But all in all, I enjoyed it.
In defense for Abby, I don't think she's as bad as everyone says. Yes, she's violent, and brutal, and she killed a character that we the players love. But Abby's not omnipotent. She doesn't KNOW that Joel is a beloved character. She's a character existing in the same world as Joel, and Joel did some really, really shitty things. It's said all throughout the first game, and even alluded to a few times in the sequel, that Joel did horrible, awful things before he met Ellie. And it's the same with Abby. She's done horrible things until she met Lev, and is starting to become a better person thanks to him, just like how Joel started to become a better person thanks to Ellie. The only difference is, we don't actually see those awful acts that Joel did, whereas we saw at least some of the things that Abby had done. But that doesn't change the fact that Joel was an awful person. Why does Joel get to be redeemed and loved despite being a confirmed a-hole, but Abby can't get the same? Why can't she have a future where she gets better? Why do people say Abby deserved to die, whereas Joel deserved to live? You can't have a redemption arc without the character having something to be redeemed from.
I think it just feels too much like a one-way street, and people only say that because we already knew and grew attached to Joel, whereas Abby was a new character that wasn't given a chance. People hated her before the game ever even came out, so she was a doomed character from the start. People didn't WANT to like her because of that one moment. You could talk to me about how she was willing to kill a pregnant Dina, whereas Ellie felt guilt over her killing a pregnant person, but that just goes into the game's themes of why seeking revenge and violence is a bad thing. It shows just how much of a monster that hate and anger and revenge and violence can turn you into. That moment also shows that, in those moments of darkness, you need someone in order to pull you back from the light, like how Lev did for Abby in preventing her from killing Dina, just by simply being there and making her realize what she was doing was wrong.
No, the game forcing you to be violent in order to proceed does not take that message away, because they literally need you to be violent in order for them to show why that violence is wrong. You can't show the consequences of something, without that something happening.
Also, Laura Bailey received deaths threats for her role as Abby. Anyone who sent her death threats over a video game are despicable human beings.
Also, that Rat King fight in the hospital was incredible. It's absolutely the most frightened I felt in either of the two Last of Us games.
All in all, I really love this game. I'd give it an easy 8 out of 10. Not perfect, not amazing. But great.

Also something worth noting is that the way Joel/Jesse was handled is similar to how gamers were told they'd play Snake in MGS2, and people hated it. Now called one of the greatest games ever.
Also also I feel like the Bear moment was not for Abby, but for how the victims of Ellie's rampage across Seattle had their own connections, people that loved them like Ellie did Joel. And Abby's fear of heights felt like a way to show how human Abby was, she wasn't the fearless, destructive, hateful monster she was framed to be. The zebra situation was one that paralleled and foreshadowed how we see abby, trapped in a bunch of pain, we see her, and we open up to her (in this case, literally for the zebra), and see how the actions of one can have consequences on so many (the zebra being able to be with its child/the lives of the Fireflies being destroyed) but that's my interpretation, a CZcamsr named Wolf of Thorns goes in-depth on this in his own video on it so yeah.

In the Bible, water symbolizes purification from sins and evil and a new life.).
It is a work that perfectly conveys the feelings of anger and revenge to the universe it has created, and perfectly combines the characters and the universe it creates with the feelings of anger and revenge.
It tells tremendously that anyone can take revenge on anyone (very well written enemy npc dialogues), everyone has a revenge story in this post apocalyptic universe (surrounding notes). The Last Of Us Part II explains very well that everyone has loved ones in the post-apocalyptic universe, and in parallel, everyone has feelings of revenge and anger.
A work or an experience is a “unique masterpiece” if it can make you think more than anything else, if it can "improve" you in an incredible way and add different perspectives to you. This work or this experience becomes an incredible product of the mind. And these artifacts are almost nonexistent!
The Last Of Us Part II is one of these works...
The Last Of Us Part II is a masterpiece that is so deep, so emotional, so philosophical, so dark and so heartbreaking!
    Narrative + Script = Story...
And The Last Of Us Part II is best masterpiece of eighth generation...
The Last Of Us Part II has a tremendously well-written script and best narrative! And The Last Of Us Part II has a perfect, an incredible story.
And The Last Of Us Part II has best narrative (acting, dialogue writing, lighting, action choreography, mimics, color palette, scene transitions, emotion transfer, vocalizations, altar of character relations, universe design and post-apocalyptic dystopia design...)...
    And incredible work...

To me, that mural is the deepest details in the game. It was a genius move to have the painting in there.
26:31 is a really good take on the mural.
What i saw was the zebras and the girafes representing the empathy and "innocence" of Abby and Ellie as they were shown in tlou 1 and 2, like you said on the same day.
And the unfinished landscape with a lion in being the predator drive that will be created in them later on in the story.
It could also be the hatred that is threatening their empathy and innocence.
Pff, what they did there was amazing, and they still let it be an optional detail to watch.
Goes to show how deep and well thought out that game actually is.

When we actually come into things trying to understand why artists make the choices they do, we feel a much greater sense of satisfaction then critiquing and getting upset. For me this game is one of the best pieces of art I've ever experienced. And I don't really ever want to play it again. It was just..., so much to take in, and that's ok. So well done!
