Correct me if I'm wrong, if you don't give your subs the proper air space recommended they will play okay around 50hz-60hz, but your output drops way down around 30hz. When you put your subs in a properly sized enclosure, like MB always does, that's where you see that strong low frequency output. A pair of eights doing 140 dB at 30hz. If you want that really strong low end bass, don't try to cram a bunch of subs in a box that's too small. Yeah, you'll be louder, but only at the upper frequencies. It will be weaker at the lower frequencies.
The man knows his stuff. As a MBE customer with a 2017 crew cab F250 I approve of this message. I get asked all the time how bigger subs sound so good in my truck. Then I have to prove to people they are only 2, Q class 8s in my truck. The look of amazement is real!
I just recently had a guy out in Florida build me an underwear box for my crew cab frontier JL 10inch sub. The box doesn’t even fit and it sounds like shit. Would love to get a box from you
I don’t know if this question been asked. MB I have a single cab ford f150 2017. The only space I have is behind the seat. My question is what box do you have that can fit in that space? The subs that I want are kicker l7t 8”s ,plus how many subs can’t work in my space?
Lmao. The box I build for the 2009-current F150, 2017-current F250-450 is 4.5 gross, the key is building back into the driver side cubby that goes back under/behind the seat. I can tune them as low as 26hz. This video is comical. Over 4 cubes gross is doable, just depends if the builder is capable😁
I understand where you coming from, mb metioned before he couldn't spend to much time on 1 box so he's not gonna extend one side or the other side to get more volume jus basic slanted truck box. There's a builder near me who will extend them back far on both sides. You can do four subs with a front port, but the net air space for the subs is going to be very small. You can model these boxes on different software programs and you'll notice the output curve is going to drop down on the low end around 30 hz. My guess is that Gately's box will have high output at 50 and 60 Hz and maybe even 40, but it's going to have reduced output at 30 Hz. I don't know a whole lot about Gatelys boxes. Maybe he only uses subs that work well in really small enclosures? That could help minimize the roll off on the low end.
Have you found a difference in output firing the port to the passenger side in lieu of it firing to the driver side. Just curious appreciate the info and love the videos.
Usually the output is a little louder on the opposite corner that the port is on. For example, if you want to measure output at a competition where the rules say the meter goes on the passenger side windshield, then have the port on the drivers side. I don't know how big a difference it is, but this is what competitors do.
@cac_south_GA that's what's up, I got 2 Q class 8s in my 2020 ram 1500 I'm about to install with a MBE box. Gonna eventually raise my seats 2" and don't care if my box sticks out more then it needs since No one sits in my back seats. Wanna run 3 or 4 Db drive G5s
And yet you praise another who put port to front using 2 pieces of wood and 4 subs in same volume. And it it’s .2-.3 port displacing. I know the numbers.
@M.B.Enclosures the port for my under seat box is 3x12.5x34ish .74 cubes And that's with your 14 inch depth tuned in the low 30s with 15 square inches per cube How do you figure your port displacement is like .2?

I have one question before we begin to discuss pricing. I have 4 EVL 12 2500 rms… is it possible to have a box built for a gbody cutlass with the specs of the speakers and the space of the truck. Air space
The question is how big of an enclosure can fit through the trunk opening? You need to use some cardboard and mock-up and enclosure that can fit through the trunk opening and then see how much space you have available.

That's 20 square inches of port area per cube. Usually a 4" aeroport works well with a 12" sub. You could oversize it to a 6" and have 28 square inches total and it'll take up way less airspace than a slot port which will increase your net airspace. It's something to think about.
@@JasonWW2000 yeah I prefer slot ports, mainly bc they add to the structure and strength of the box. Don't have a ton of experience with aero ports either. I'm actually running on the small side of port area for power level. 52ci is the min area using the port calculator I usually use. Also for the center console I intend on building for this , I want the sub facing back between the seats and there is just enuff room for a 4" slot under the speaker or the console will be too tall between the seats. I may play with a big aero soon , I just used all my scrap MDF on this box so when I re-up I'll have to give it a try. Have used a 10" sonotube on 2 XR 12s in 4.5cubes at 32, sounded pretty good.

Math ain’t mathin lol.. But in any vehicle I’m a fan of port anywhere but front so it can load properly.. tbh I’m not a fan of forward facing subs either however in a truck it’s about the only way.. cars and suvs have it sooo much better with being able to port load and cone load.. Loading can and cannot change output but it always changes the sound you hear.. its always deeper and richer if it reverbs back to your ear instead of passing your ear reverb off the glass which deflects it downward and back to you..
I may not be understanding you completely. Just to clarify, if a port is larger in surface area it has to be longer, not shorter in order to maintain the same tuning frequency.
