    I bought my first new Colt AR in 1988 for $799. The 20” HBAR. Had no idea at the time it was soon going to be considered a “pre-ban” model. AWB years sucked for those of us old enough to have been around then.

    I have a 1993 pre-ban R6520 Gov Carbine lower with a 2019 Colt M4 upper/barrel etc. I live in Communist MA so this is the absolute best I can build for my state.

    Well. I have been building a survice rifle from fallout New Vegas. Turns out my build is closest to a 6401 but with flat slip ring, a1 furniture (till I get wooden a1), and teardrop forward assist. Cool to find out my fantasy franken rifle idea actually was in some way produced. I love your videos.

    Great video 👍 My First AR was a Colt R6520 Government Carbine I bought brand new in 1990 and I still have it.
    It must have been at the development stage of M4 feed ramps because it has them, but not quite as pronounced as my later carbines.
    It’s the lightest and handiest AR I own.

    • @LRRPFco52
      @LRRPFco52 Před 11 měsíci

      The select-fire RO727 had feed ramps, so if you have a Sporter II carbine, that would make sense.
      My understanding is that extended feed ramps were added to deal with increased cyclic rate on the full auto guns in case of low presentation of cartridges with a BCG moving too quickly.

    I learn more about the history of Colt's Ar15 - M4's on Small arms Solutions than I would on the internet. Would you ever do a full review about the Colt Ar-15A3 (AR-6721) (HBAR)? Im buying one from a local gun shop near my hometown and I can't really find very much history about that model on Google, CZcams, etc.

  • @ung427

    I'm kind of confused. Everyone is bashing the UTG A2 butt stock assembly because the plastic is black and it has a molding line down the side, very faint, but it runs along where the buffer tube is. People say that it is cheap airsoft junk because of this. They say that the butt stock should be grey in color, and have no molding lines, and have a metal butt door. But at various times during this presentation, including at 02:34 these stock photos of the old Colt rifles have black butt stocks with the molding line running down them...

    My very first rifle was my Dad's SP2 he bought in Dorris California in the late 70s. I love that rifle. I took the A2 furniture off and replaced it with A1 furniture and put a 3 prong flash hider. It really cemented my love for the AR and I cherish it to this day. It's definitely Colt """Quality""" with it's awful cast marks but I love it all the same

    The 6420 I just picked up has a C7 style upper but an M4 profile barrel, the finish still matches too. Could that be that they just used up the pencil barrels and started using the new government profile barrels?

      Very strange. That model never had a M4 profile bbl. That was not introduced until the release of the LE6920. I think someone modified your rifle. Check for feedramps cut in the upper and a “F” marked FSB

    So I've got a colt le6920 trooper and a colt le6920 that came with the magpul handguard and grip and stock and mbus rear sight. I've looked at a le6920 socom, my question is is the only difference between the standard 6920 and the 6920 socom the barrel profile handguard and h2 buffer. And could I run an h2 buffer in a standard 6920 with and problems. I'm going to try the h2 buffer with the sprinco blue action spring , does anyone have any experience with this. Thanks

    • @jonjames4281
      @jonjames4281 Před 4 lety +1

      I run h2s in 4 of my 223/556 and 2 are carbine, 2 are mid gas with one of those being a low mass bcg adjustable gas setup. never had an issue, only improvement. kinda depends on the barrel gas port size, not sure what colt has those at. the only "colt" ar I have is a rifle setup. (the first one SAS talked about in this vid). It'll probably help, can always change back if not. there is a reason I run them and it's not to brag about them. didn't know they came in the le6920 socom, smart move imo.

    • @SmallArmsSolutions
      @SmallArmsSolutions  Před 6 měsíci +1

      You will find large pin lowers in Sporter series. Colt used up those lowers before they switched to the M16A2 forgings.

      @@SmallArmsSolutions My HBAR M16A2 has a flash hider/cut off bayonet lug/ and a big pin lower? It has to be pre 1991 I think? It’s has a regular modern small pin lower with the adapter bushing so I can’t look up the serial number. Any help would be great?

    • @SmallArmsSolutions
      @SmallArmsSolutions  Před 6 měsíci +2

      If it says Colt SPORTER HBAR on the side of the reciever and has a compensator with bayonet lug removed it is a pre ban rifle. The post ban Match series all had M16A2 lowers, compensator and no bayonet lug. Your rifle is pre-1994. I would place it in the 1991 time period though due to it being transitional from the standard AR15 A2 lower to the M16A2 lower. The important part is Pre 94, pre assault weapon ban. In some states those are all they can be owned. In most states, the rifle is less desirable due to the larger .170 diameter hammer/trigger pins and no bayonet lug.
