    ECU RESET | Vios / Yaris is a simple how-to video about resetting Toyota Vios' ECU with manual transmission after a maintenance procedure has been done, such as throttle body cleaning, or when the idling or RPM becomes erratic for whatever reason.
    The procedure shown in this tutorial is just another option you can try to "refresh" your car's ECU. It is always recommended to use an OBD 2 scanner if available for a more comprehensive diagnosis.
    Different factors can cause issues in your car and sometimes a simple reset can fix minor problems.
    If you don't have an OBD 2 scanner, you can try this to see if it fixes the issue.
    NOTE: Usually issues can be resolved by just performing "STEP 1." In cases where "Step 1" did not help, repeat "Step 1" but this time proceed to "STEP 2" and see if it resolves the problem.
    If your car has an automatic transmission, you can still use STEP 1 (which is disconnecting the battery cables and touching them together for 10 minutes) to refresh the ECU, but instead of proceeding to STEP 2 as described in this video, you can drive around at different speeds (slow to fast) with A/C "on" to help the ECU relearn the various shift points of the automatic transmission. The car may run a little rough while the ECU is relearning but continue driving around for a few kilometers and the car will eventually run better once the relearning process is completed.
    If these steps don't help, consult a mechanic and ask him to perform a thorough diagnostics with an OBD 2 scanner.

    For automatic cars, just perform STEP 1 for 10-15 minutes.
    Then, reconnect the battery and start the engine. Skip step 2. Let it idle until the RPM goes down to about 900 - 700 then turn on the A/C while idling for 5 minutes.
    After five minutes, drive around for at least 15 - 30 minutes with A/C "ON." Drive at varying speeds (slow to fast) to help the ECU relearn the shifting points.
    The initial run may be slightly rougher than usual, but it is to be expected during the relearning process. It will eventually stabilize as the ECU relearns the new parameters while you continue to use your car.

      Nakakatulong po sya na ibalik sa default ecu parameters, lalo na po kung medyo lumalakas na fuel consumption ng sasakyan (pero marami pa pong ibang factors ang nakaka apekto sa fuel consumption).

    Salamat sir, although diko pa na try pero sa tingin ko gagana to. Lumakas kasi ang ang fuel consumption after ko ma linis ang throttle body, yung una kong ginawa linis ng spark plug at fuel injector , lumakas sa gas pero nag ok sya after ko patakbuhin ng 90 kph. Ngayon naulit na naman

    Where and how do you get your knowledge from doing this, did you do a research or study for it yourself or someone taught you?
    Pls don’t take this personally but i am curious on how by doing this steps will reset the ECU or “Relearn” the idle of an engine.

      I appreciate your question. First, you learn this by studying automotive mechanics; second, by doing your research; and third, through experience. To answer your other question, the ECU or ECM is designed to reset or refresh its memory when the power supply to it is interrupted. It is configured to store default parameters and delete adaptive memories as necessary, much like how you can erase or refresh your computer's Random Access Memory when you restart it. Similar to your computer's RAM, the ECU also stores (or relearns) new information as you use your vehicle. The ECU or ECM functions similarly to your computer's RAM by storing or learning new information about your driving habits, fuel trims, ignition timing, idle speed, etc. These are referred to as adaptive parameters, which the ECU stores as new memory as you drive your vehicle.

    Good day sir.. just did exactly what i watched on your video tutorial.. after po ng procedure pag ka start ko engine up and down po ung RPM until 5000rpm po sya nag steady… automatic toyota vios 2014 po car ko.

      @@Viosified ngpalinis po ako ng entire fuel system ksma throttle body , ngtry ako ireset ecu then ngaun taas baba na po RPM nya pag nka idle lng.. pgopen AC tumataas rpm nya ng 7000rpm to 9000rpm..

      @@anicetonikkodeguzman2255 nagrerelearn po ang ecu, pero masyado po mataas ang rpm kung umaabot ng 7000 rpm. Ang normal po ay 600 to 1000 rpm (from idle to AC clutch engagement). Naririnig nyo po ba na galit na galit o nag high rev makina?
      Normal po kasi na mag fluctuate pataas at pababa ang rpm tuwing nageengage at disengage ang AC clutch ng compressor, kaya ko po naitanong kung sobrang galit na galit po ang makina ng unit nyo

      Ah, within normal range naman po sya kung ganun.
      Usually po medyo rough talaga idle during relearning process ng ecu pero bumabalik din sa normal pag ginamit nyo na ang sasakyan, after about 50 to 100 km (slow - fast - slow driving). Pag hindi pa rin po bumalik sa normal o kung masyadong malikot ang fluctuation at may unusual vibration ang makina maaring vacuum leak po ang dahilan or maduming MAF sensor. Ipa check nyo po dun sa gumawa.

      Hi. If you are installing a new ECM/ECU you will need a scanner to write the VIN to the new ECM/ECU and you need to input the codes for the immobiliser, otherwise the car will not start.

      The engine may behave erratically if the old parameters are not deleted from the ecu memory.

    sobrang linaw po ng video nyo sir.
    pero di ko pa po tinatry sa vios 2016 manual dual vvti ko.
    ask ko lang sir, kc dalawang beses akong nagpalinis ng throtle at nag palit ng apat na spark plug, ang prob ng vios ko ngaun pag tinapakan ko ung gas pedal ko ng madiin kumakadyot sya, pero pag ndi ko diniinan ang apak ndi naman sya kumakadyot normal naman ang takbo kaya lang ang bagal umakyat ng rpm kc ndi ko mapress ng madiin dahil kapag diniinan ko kakadyot sya.
    possible ba sir na need sya ireset para mag okay?

      Subukan nyo po ireset ecu then obserbahan nyo. Kung memory lang ang dahilan mawawala po yung kadyot, pero pag di pa rin nawala ibalik nyo po dun sa gumawa para macheck nila mga vacuum hoses, wirings, etc.
      In case po makuha sa reset, maaring mapansin nyo na medyo naging "rough" ang makina sa umpisa kasi nagre-relearn pa ang ecu pero unti-unti po sya babalik sa normal habang ginagamit nyo sasakyan.

      Pwede nyo po subukan, pero kung may problema sa wiring o fuse, o incompatibility sa firmware o protocol ng OBD2 scanner at on-board computer ng makina, hindi po sya uubra. Icheck nyo din po kung tugma yung connector ng scanner, at yung power level ng battery, at kung ok ang grounding.

      The reason for connecting the positive cable first is to ensure that any accidental contact between the positive cable and the metal parts of the car does not create sparks. Sparks near the battery can be dangerous, as the chemical reactions inside the battery produces flammable gases (specifically hydrogen & oxygen) that can be ignited by sparks. By connecting the positive cable first, you reduce the chances of sparking near the battery.

      Ibaiba po kasi ang pwede maging sanhi nyan, pwede din po low compression, o maduming mga sensors, baradong fuel filter, intake at exhaust systems, clutch engagement issues, etc, etc.. Mas mapapadali po ang diagnosis kung mapa tingnan nyo sa mekaniko na may OBD2 scanner para mapinpoint po ang sanhi

    hi po sinundan ko po yung instruction nyo pero hindi po na reset yung ecu MT Vios 2016. issue ng vios ko po is bumaba ang rpm ng 500-450. tinanggal ko po kasi ang battery ng 1day dahil sa alarm. pwede ko po kaya ulitin yun since na start ko na ang engine? nag rerelearn po ba kusa sa katagalan? thanks po

      Kung 1 day disconnected sa battery malamang po nag reset na sya, hayaan nyo na lang po mag relearn ang ECU. Idrive nyo na lang normally gaya ng dati. Unti unti po magre-relearn ang ECU habang dinadrive ang sasakyan (for about 50km to 100km). Yung steps po sa video ay para lang ma-facilitate ang relearning process pero kahit hindi nyo na ulitin yun. Salamat po.

      Hi sir. No need na po kung hindi naman umiilaw ang check engine light o kung wala naman naging problema, pero kung meron pong issues pwede nyo po subukan.
      In case hindi po kinaya ng simpleng reset, pwede nyo po gamitan ng OBD 2 scanner para idelete ang errors at macheck na din ang status ng mga sensors at ng makina.

      Hi sir. You can start by observing if the RPM drop occurs during braking. If it does, it could be a sign of a developing vacuum leak in the brakes and/or brake booster system.
      Other things to consider are possible vacuum leaks in the intake hoses and EVAP system; condition of the MAF sensor, O2 sensors, throttle body; possible cyclinder misfires, condition of the sparkplugs/ignition coils, just to name a few.
      However, in order to minimize guesswork, it would be a good idea to obtain a comprehensive diagnostics with an OBD2 scanner to check the error history (if any) and performance of the engine, sensors, and ignition system, among other things.
      Please note, however, that occasional slight vibration is normal for in-line four cylinder engines due to the way mechanical balance is affected or distributed during the combustion cycle.

      Kung sa MAF sensor, no need na po ireset kung di naman na-trigger ang CEL at walang issue sa engine performance. Usually ginagawa ang reset pagkatapos linisin ang throttle body.

      For automatic cars, just perform STEP 1 for 10-15 minutes.
      Then, reconnect the battery and start the engine. Skip step 2. Let it idle until the RPM goes down to about 900 - 700 then turn on the A/C while idling for 5 minutes.
      After five minutes, drive around for at least 15 - 30 minutes with A/C "ON." Drive at varying speeds (slow to fast) to help the ECU relearn the shifting points.
      The initial run may be slightly rougher than usual, but it is to be expected during the relearning process. It will eventually stabilize as the ECU relearns the new parameters while you continue to use your car.

      Wala pong problema unit nyo kung umaabot ng 2500 ang rpm nya sa bilis na 100kph. May 'rubber band effect' po talaga ang CVT transmission kaya medyo may konting delay po sya kumpara sa manual transmission.

      Sir, ipacheck nyo po kondisyon ng BATTERY (baka mahina o palitin na), BATTERY CABLES (kung may damage) & BATT CABLE CONTACTS (for loose connection), at ALTERNATOR (kung sapat ang supply ng kuryente). Isama nyo na din po ang DRIVE BELT (belt tension baka maluwag o dumudulas).

      Hi sir. Ilan po sa mga senyales ay rough idling, mahina o delayed ang hatak, malakas sa gasolina, minsan bigla namamatay makina parang sakal, pwede rin po ma-trigger ang Check Engine Light, at pag sinilip ang throttle may carbon build up na sa butterfly valve at loob ng throttle body.
      After throttle body cleaning nagbabago rin po ang reading ng ECU sa airflow vs throttle position kaya maaring tumaas ang idle RPM at minsan biglang nagagalit ang makina habang umaandar ang sasakyan. Pag ganun pwede po ireset ang ECU para ma-relearn ang bagong throttle position.
      Normal idle speed range po pag naka-ON ang A/C ay 650 - 900.

      Hi sir. Makikita po difference sa behavior ng makina. Kung naging mataas o erratic ang RPM after throttle body cleaning magno-normalize po sya after reset, babalik po sya sa nornal idle RPM range na 650 - 900. Kung may Check Engine Light po bago mag-reset, usually nawawala na sya after. Yung system clock po nagre-reset din. Minsan, after reset medyo nagiging rough po ng konti ang makina habang nagre-relearn pa ang ECU pero nag no normalize din po sya after 50km - 100km run. Kaya habang dina-drive po ang sasakyan unti unti rin nire-relearn ng ECU ang bagong driving parameters at nagaadjust sya accordingly.

      Hi sir. In case malikot pa rin po ang RPM, pwede mo po subukan i-reset. Para po sa automatic cars, just perform STEP 1 for 10-15 minutes.
      Then , i-reconnect mo na po ang battery and start the engine. Let it idle until the RPM goes down to about 900 - 700 then turn on the AC while idling for 5 minutes.
      After five minutes, idrive mo po si Vios for at least 15 - 30 minutes with AC "ON." idrive mo po sya at different speeds para marelearn din nya ang mga shifting parameters.
      The initial run may be slightly rougher than usual, pero normal lang po yun during the relearning process. Mag-i-stabilize din po sya after driving the car around a few times or a few hundred kilometers.
      The ECU will continue to relearn as you use the car hanggang sa mag adapt na nya ulit sa driving habits mo po sir.
      (Pero in case hindi pa rin po sya matulungan ng basic reset na kagaya nito even after driving the car for a few hundred kilometers, pwede mo po gamitan ng OBD2 scanner para icheck po kung may na trigger na errors, perhaps during welding)

      Hi sir. Kung nag disconnect ka po ng battery nung binaklas ang starter, maaring na-erase po yung previous ECU parameters kaya nanibago ka po sa behaviour ng engine. Kung sa hatak naman po, walang direct na kinalaman yung starter dahil ang tungkulin lang po nya ay paikutin ang flywheel para sa initial start-up ng makina.
      Pag pinaandar nyo po ang A/C, tataas pa po ng bahagya ang rpm. Kung manual po ang Vios nyo maari nyo po subukan ang steps na nasa video. Idrive nyo rin po ang sasakyan ng ilang kilometro na naka-ON ang A/C para mapabilis po ang relearning process ng ECU.
      Kung wala po ibang problema ang makina, unti unti po na babalik ang dati nyang behaviour matapos mag relearn ang ECU. Kung may pagkakataon po kayo, mas mabuti na mapa check nyo ang sasakyan gamit ang OBD2 scanner para mas comprehensive po ang diagnosis at malaman ang totoong kundisyon ng makina, mga sensors, fuel trims, etc.

    Boss flasher relay location? Nabaklas ko na buong dash, wala ako nakita. Wala na kasi audible feedback ang turn signal at hazard nung car ng sister ko na 2016 Vios E, di kaya integrated na sa control module yung flasher relay?

      Yes sir, maari po. Kasi 10A fuse lang ang nasa engine compartment fuse box (No. 18 slot) para sa turn signals/hazard lights. Pag ni-trace po tunog ng flasher nanggagaling sya sa likod ng dash panel mismo. Maaring electronic circuit relay na po ang nakakabit instead of traditional relay. Maybe casa could help with specifics.

      @@Viosified thank you boss sa info 👍👍👍, baka nga integrated electronic circuit na, based sa research ko wala rin ako makita na flasher relay sa fuse and relay diagrams. Based sa diagram at sa nakita ko habang nagbabaklas, IG1 (Ignition) relay at aircon relay ung malapit sa A pillar sa driver side sa likod ng instrument cluster, sa likod naman ng radio fog relay, rear fog relay and tail lamp relay ang nakita ko.

      i-off nyo po muna makina at ikabit nyo ulit yung MAF sensor. Kailangan po nakakabit ang MAF sensor kasi yun po ay isa sa nagreregulate ng tamang air-to-fuel ratio na kailangan ng makina. Mago-ON po ang Check Engine Light Pag pinaandar nyo makina na walang MAF sensor.       Naghi-high rev po makina pag nalinisan ang throttle body kasi naalis na po ang dumi at mas madaming hangin na po ang pumapasok sa intake kaya nalilito po ang ecu dahil lumang parameters pa rin po ang sinusunod nya. Subukan nyo po ireset ang ecu sir para marefresh ang throttle position memory sa ecu.

    Halo, I'm Juna.. this a nice information video.. I have same ECU indicator turned on after performed some:
    - Replace to my thermostat
    - Replace Right Oil Seal - Front Drive Shaft
    - Refill 3 Ltr of coolant &
    - Refill 2 Ltr of Oil Transmission
    After that, started the engine & the ECU Indicator lamp turned on after engine running. First the AC turned on & RPM moving up & down between 500-700 constantly.. But it stop after I drive the car..
    Check too OBD2 Found 3 code, P0010, P1000 & P0100...
    Can you help me..
    I'll try to reset the ECU after watched your tutorial..

      Hi Juna. You can start by checking all the wiring harness connectors to see if they are clean and fully inserted to ensure proper electrical flow between the connectors. Then you can try the basic reset shown in the video.
      If it doesn't help, here are a few other things to consider:
      1) Error code P0010 indicates that the ECU/ECM detects a difference or mismatch in the mechanical timing between the Crankshaft and Bank 1 Camshaft.
      2) Error code P1000 indicates that the Emission Systems Multiple Self-test has not been completed. Consider checking the wiring harnesses for the EVAP system, including the purge control solenoid & vent solenoid. Either there is a leak, electrical problem, or one or more solenoids are faulty.
      3) Error code P0100 indicates an issue with the MAF Sensor. Consider checking the wiring connectors and/or the condition of the MAF Sensor itself for possible issues.
      After fixing the root causes of the problem you can then delete the fault codes with the OBD2 Scanner.
      This is not comprehensive but I hope this helps you somehow. Thank you.

      @@Viosified Thank you for your clear explanation related with the error fault code number.. i've done the ecu reset as per instructiom.. but the ecu indicator still turned on.. i've done socket replacement in the coil & injector.. n clean the maf sensor also..

      @@harjunasabathino3255 are you getting the same error codes from the OBD2 scanner? If yes, you may have to go back to the mechanic who worked on your car to fix the root causes of the problems which triggered the error codes P0010, P1000, P0100. These fault codes will trigger the Check Engine Light to come on until the mechanical and/or electrical issues they indicate are corrected.

      @@Viosified after i searched in my country's youtube post related the p0010 err code.. majority the problem caused by the broken socket of OCV when attempt to tensioned the fan belt near alternator..

      @@harjunasabathino3255 i agree. I just want to add that the fault code P0010 can also be triggered by the following:
      Faulty Crankshaft or Camshaft Position Sensors
      Mismatched engine timing
      Heavy Oil sludge
      Worn out timing chain, guides, gears,, etc.
      Worn out or broken wiring or harnesses
      (And sometimes, outdated
      ECU software or ECU problems can also trigger it)

      Ipacheck nyo po muna sir kung ano ang cause. Babalik kasi ang warning light kung hindi maiaayos ang dahilan. Minsan yung clock spring ang may problema , o kaya may naputol na wire sa harness ng SRS, etc., etc.
