Here's Why You Should Buy A Lexus SC400

  • SUBSCRIBE TODAY!! Showing you some of the reasons why you should consider buying a Lexus SC400 as an extra vehicle or even as a daily driver. These cars are soo much fun to drive and cheap to maintain. The SC400 is getting harder and harder to find for the right price in the right condition as time goes on. As for my SC400, it took me 6 years to find this specific one. I have owned about 5 before stumbling upon this beauty. If the car has been properly maintained throughout its life, it will clearly show, just as mine does for being a 27 year old vehicle. I got lucky on this find but so can you. These cars are super reliable and the best part is how cheap they are to insure and maintain. mine has nearly no issues and will continue to run for hundreds of thousands of miles easily with basic maintenance and tune up. I see these cars with well over 250k miles and still running strong for sale. Check out my other videos on my lexus sc400 to see more details about the car. Thanks for watching and make sure to give this videos a thumbs up.

Only thing it needed was hood shocks and a a/c motor blower resistor (AC motor blew only on high) which I picked up from the junkyard for $30. Better get that power steering fluid fixed soon!! Known issue with the SC400 and LS400 is when the power steering goes/leaks it will leak on the Alternator since the Alternator is right below it and FRY it!! I know these SC300/400's like the back of my hand. Happen to have a 98 Renaissance Red SC300 with no rips or tears in the front seats, And one seam coming apart on the top part of the back seat which you mentioned is common gonna get that fixed. Overall paint is very good minus chips and scratches here and there. Has VVT-i which only the 1998-2000 models had. I'm her 3rd owner got her back in May 2015. First owner held on to her for over 14yrs! And took her in religiously every 5000mi for service at the original Lexus dealer. Have a stack of paperwork an inch thick in the original leather Lexus binder for all the service! 2nd owner did the timing belt service back in 2012 at 106,700mi. She's got 116 ,600 now and drives and shifts smoothly. That averages out to less than 6000mi a year. No accident history too. I will hold on to her for many, many years to come!!

I owned an 81 Celica GT, an 84 Celica GT-S, and an 88 Supra. Loved all of them!! Because this engine is sophisticated, and is an interference motor, you probably should change the timing belt, if you haven't already. You can easily get them for 3k with around 150k miles. Just be ready with another thousand for dumb repairs like suspension bushings, the stereo will be shot, most likely some sort of pulley/belt/ or timing job and Always check the steering rack for leaks. After that they are rock solid. And a simple home made air intake and muffler delete gets you a free 10-15hp easy. Tweak the TPS, clean the throttle, new spark plugs, ignition and these thing are legit. Quick powerful cars that you could drive to Alaska and back.

I came across a Lexus forum post whereby two solenoids on the power steering rack have a small screen that blocks overtime. This causes a high pressure on the power steering which eventually blows the pump or the lines. Change the lines or pump without cleaning the screens, and yes they will blow again! Its not a big job and once cleaned your steering will be much easier and no more problems. I have never had an issue with pump or lines. Funny thing, i'm purchasing my first SC this coming weekend, it's a white 96 with 203K on it, only thing wrong i've seen (so far) is the Paint is not all that great, and gauge cluster light on the fuel gauge is not functional. I do however have plans for it. (GT Wing, Anime wrap, Soarer Badges). Will post vids of it in due time :)

Its more than $25 per bearing for the proper parts, but I suggest buying the parts online and have them shipped to you then have a mechanic install them. you will save yourself a good amount of money buying the parts on your own. just make sure you are buying the right parts that are made to fit your sc specifically. sometimes off brand parts even though they are cheaper can have fitment issues

Akebono make excellent pads. Again. Use the same front and rear for proper balance. Bot pads and rotor quality are important. Pads most important. Cheap rotors and great pads will work great!! Considering making one of these my new Daily Driver. I unfortunately have to replace my first car, and I’ve been eyeing these for a while. If I can potentially get about 2-3k for my car selling it, I’d pull the trigger on one of these.
How do the transmissions hold up? And what’s the reliability like on these? I wouldn’t want to end up in another situation where I’m forced to sell due to trans issues.

Very strong engine and trans ... very good car all around . Just do ur research cuz alot of ppl LS swap them and/or turn them to drift cars ... im more into retaining the original look and feel of such masterfully made vehicle for ots time period . If u can get one with less that 200k u should only have to worry bout regurlar maintenance. 2K to 3K for the car and i would just estimate bout another 2K to 3K in the work , thats parts and labor , if ur doing work ur self then u can imagine its lot cheaper . Just do ur research and u can decide for urself if its worth it . They do have sc haters out there but honestly the car is tried and true and only needs regular maintenance and they will last forever.

There is ABSOLUTELY NOT room for 4 full size adults. 2 adults and a maybe a couple baby seats or a person with no legs, unless the front persons are 5'6" or less and sit way up close to the dash... I'm 5'10". my oldest son is 5'11" and when either of us is driving and the other is in the passenger seat, the back seat WILL NOT accommodate my 14 yr old daughter who is a small girl, or my 15 yr old son who is typical teen skinny and 5'10" as well. This car fits the definition of a 2+2 seat configuration... the trunk is minuscule, albeit very plush and lined exceptionally well, yet there is no pass through due to the entire fuel tank system and solid structure wall between the trunk and back seat, so there is very little room for more than avg size luggage. My daughter says that my 95 VW Golf Cabrio has WAY more backseat and leg room than she could ever have in the SC. this is not a family car by any stretch.. it is a single man's sports car with room for good performance mod capability or a woman who enjoys a stylish luxurious sporty looking car that is more than enough capable to cruise well over 100mph. I also gets incredible mileage even on top tier high octane fuel. I will never sell mine they are just too rare and too enjoyable to own. I may buy a few for investment, as they are skyrocketing in value, following the Supra trends. All 90s Japanese sports cars are gonna be worth insane amounts of money in the next 10 yrs.
