1. Go and get knowledge
Ramsay has described his early life as "hopelessly itinerant"; his family moved constantly due to the aspirations and failures of his father.
2. Delegate
At the age of 16, Ramsay moved out of the family house into a flat in Banbury.
3. The customer is king
Ramsay played football and was first chosen to play under-14 football at age 12. His football career was marked by injuries.
4. Establish confidence in yourself
Rather than be known as the football player with the gammy knee, at age 19, he paid more serious attention to his culinary education.
5. Engage with your customers
He worked as a commis chef at the Wroxton House Hotel then ran the kitchen and 60-seat dining room at the Wickham Arms.
6. Never give up
He was later inspired to work for the temperamental Marco Pierre White at Harvey's.
7. Follow your ambitions
After working at Harveys for two years and ten months, he decided that the way to further advance his career was to study French cuisine.
8. Have passion
Upon his return to London in 1993, Ramsay was offered the position of head chef at the Three Michelin starred La Tante Claire in Chelsea.
9. Don't shoot too high
In 1998, Ramsay opened his own restaurant in Chelsea, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.
10. Have some funIn January 2013, Ramsay was inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame.

I'm a 28 year old chef, started culinary school when I was 16, and all along my journey Gordon Ramsay has been a major source of inspiration for me. However, there are some things I want to point out for those of you who are thinking of becoming a chef because I think its important to know so that YOU dont waste your time.
1. "I LOVE COOKING I SHOULD BECOME A CHEF" Please realise, that cooking professionally is entirely different to cooking at home. You don't get get to choose what you want to cook. You will have to cook food you dont even like.
2. SUPPLY AND DEMAND. "normal" food will always be far higher in demand than the kind of gourmet michellin food you see on Gordons tv shows. Chefs are gonna have to cook this. Why? Because money.
3. TIME IS MONEY. You dont have the same time frame as you do at home, meaning you have to hurry the fuck up, meaning less and/or little to no time to enjoy the actual cooking part.
4. PREP/SHITTY JOBS. Peeling onions and such for literally hours on end. Its not much fun really.
5. GOODBYE FRIENDS AND FAMILY. Yes, you will be working when everybody else is off work. Holidays included.
6. "WORKAHOLIC" Most likely this diagnose will be forced upon you wether you like it or not. It is not uncommon for chefs to work far more hours than most jobs. For the moment being I average around 220 hours a month.
7. CALLING IN SICK. This VERY RARELY happens. You go to work even if you are sick. If you are lucky (hasnt yet happend to me) the head chef will show you mercy and tell you to fuck off and come back tomorrow.
8. HIERARCHY. Much like in the army, there is a hierarchy in the kitchen. For a period of time you are going to be at the bottom of it. Sometimes it gets ugly.
9. GORDON RAMSAY. Arguably, Gordons rise to fame was partly due to what most people might call a "bad temper" and it's exposure to the public. In reality, his temper is very normal when compared to other chefs. You will personally experience exactly what you have seen Gordon say or do to people on TV. Forget what you know about common decency, it does not always apply in a kitchen. If you make mistakes, someone sure as shit will tell you, and chances are it will not be a fun experience for you. You will remember and learn from this.
10. WORK FOR FREE. If you really really REALLY have a burning desire to cook gourmet food and want to do this as fast as possibly, you can get a job at a restaurant that has a michellin star(s). However, it is not uncommon to work FOR FREE in such restaurants. At least not for a period of time, untill you actually become usefull. Depending on the restaurant, this might take some time. I wanted to do this, but financially it simply wasnt an option for me.
Thank you for sharing this with us. That's a really great list. :) #Believe #BelieveNation #BTA1118 Luka
Thanks for the advice, I'm 17 years old now and I learn culinary at school, I applied to culinary school because my parents force me, and during the school I don't do anything seriously, then I had to do trainneship, in my trainneship anything it's not like what I expected it's totally like what've you said, And I do lot of mistakes, it was really bad experience, and then I started to regret about why did I follow my parents, and everything is change, In my 12th class, my last class in high school, my desire to be a professional chef that can handle taste, appearance, and process comes out, I believe it's not too late. And I'm gonna do my best.
kind of brutal but i wont stop pursuing my dream of becoming a chef

I love Gordon Ramsay. When I think of someone who works with real passion he always comes to mind. :)
+Toronto Real Yeah, he's amazingly passionate. :) #BTA73 Ivan
I guess it depends what each decided to focus on. I see someone who's passionate about good food, perfecting his craft, learning from other cultures, teaching what he knows to those who are willing to put in serious hard work and effort to master the craft.
Thank you for making this video guys. I thoroughly enjoyed all of Gordon Ramsey's rules for success. It's a nice change to see the other side of this very inspiring gentleman. There were so many key points he made that I felt were valuable nuggets of information. Knowledge and the importance of learning it, and sharing it with people, passing it on to other team members. Customer is key, and without them, we would have nothing. This is paramount, and I certainly do my best to show gratitude, and appreciation by engaging and exceeding their expectations. Attention to detail and not cutting corners. This is something I do well and pride myself on. Never...Ever...Ever Give Up. This is always great to hear, especially when things get a little heavy. I also like what Gordon mentioned about the way he copes with nerves when he's competing, and thinks about delectable dishes. I do the same thing and shift my focus to visualizing new designs, and working with textures and materials. Having passion for what you do is the best feeling ever. Many of days, I bounce out of bed, and run straight into my studio to jump back into my project. I have my daily routine, but it's that whole balance/chaos thing you talk about Evan. Haha!
I loved the part when he talks about his parents not having enough money for his whites and a nice set of cutlery. Very humble beginnings and no wonder why he is such a success, and genuinely happy. He remembers his roots. I probably could have just mentioned one of Gordon Ramsay's top 10 rules for success, but they're all so great! What he said about keeping it local and building a great repport with people and customers. Once that is established, then you can take it up a notch. When success comes gradually, and over a longer period of time, I feel it's more stable. Gordon Ramsay is a super neat guy and would love to sit down with him over a great meal, and pick his brain =D. Thank you so much for sharing guys, and keep up the great work...#BTA15
+KATRAA by Matthew Molcillo I like him too!!! Used to watch lots of his cooking shows :). #BTA117 Nina

Thank you very much for the comment and for watching musicPMA. :) #BelieveNation #BTA603 Shine
Gordon Ramsay inspired me to really get off my ass learn to really cook instead of just playing around with food and completely raise the bar on my cooking. My Friends often go wow your food look so good and always want me to cook them something. But Gordon Ramsay whipped my ass into shape to become a good home cook watching all his videos. That's priceless for life!
I'm glad that you're feeling inspired, Ardent! Thank you for sharing with us. :) #Believe #BTA727 Luka
Thank you so much brother I appreciate that you're inspiring the young chefs
Glad you're feeling inspired! Thanks for watching! 💛😊 #Believe - Ahmed
My daughter, who doesn't cook, bought his cookbook! I was amazed. She watches him all the time! Engage with customers! Talk with them, visit with them and keep in contact with them. Otherwise they will forget! #BTA1
What's the name of his cookbook?
+Cevatius Campbell I wish I could take a picture of book. It's called, "Gordon Ramsay's Home Cooking, everything you need to know to make fabulous food." She said it was the first book she actually paid "full price" for. She actually let me borrow it. It's great!
+Sheri Karanasos Engaging with the customers is key. Especially when it comes to get a tip! In the long run, I like to frequent places with excellent service and good food over a place with great food and bad service. Went through this a couple weeks ago. Great food...probably won't go back again.
+New Future Builder +Evan Carmichael is here, in Seattle!!! And it's not raining! He sent me a message but I haven't heard back on where and when. I'm so excited to engage in a conversation in person!!
Thank you
Regardless of the language, the show, and I guess the aggressive "facade" , I have more and more respect for this man every year! What an inspiration he is! I'm not even remotely a chef but dream of having him as a mentor .
Thank you for the inspirational channel :)
+Nafiseh Alsharif That's awesome to hear! :) Glad that you're feeling inspired by our content! :) Thank you for sharing with us, and thanks for watching. #BTA119 Luka

+Suchitra Malvankar Woot.. Yes.. need to have fun regardless what you do. :) #BTA74 Nina
Suchitra Malvankar love you and your pic muahhh
3:55 is hilarious. I watch all Ramsay's shows and I love how he gets irritated over the smallest fuck ups lol.
Ramsay reacting harshly is actually good for those who train under him because the people learn what NOT to do. Whenever they make a mistake in front of him and he instantly reacts with anger is actually a GOOD thing....that *MOMENT* will stick with them forever....so they become masters at making sure it never happens again in the future.
This also makes them better and improve their skill. There are too many soft, sensitive, sissies nowadays that feel entitled as if they can't be put into place. If you really want to achieve something great, be willing to take Feedback in the way Ramsay gives it.
+resellworld He is so passionate about his work. He even gives feedback in a passionate way. :) #BTA74 Ivan
Wow... never seen such a great comment! Damnit get more likes you comment
resellworld did ramsay have a cooking class?
Inredible video, so many great tips, Ramsay is the B.E.S.T.
Glad that you like it! Thank you for watching. :) #BTA501 Luka

Thanks for the comment and for watching Jasbir. :) #BTA491 Shine
Thanks for the video. I am venturing into culinary lines and i quit my jobs everything.. just to focus on my passion for foods and cookery. This rules surely very useful for me. How I wish someday i can learn from Gordon Ramsay himself. All the way from the Borneo Island, Sarawak.
Glad to hear that they are helpful to you! :) Thank you for sharing with us and thanks for watching. :) #BelieveNation #BTA501 Luka
Love your camera cuts and how you move around the scene and up close to the camera, makes it engaging

Keep doing this work
Keep inspiring people like me🙏
Glad you are inspired Gagan. :) Thanks for the appreciation, encouragement and for watching. Much love. #BelieveNation #BTA262 Shine
Number 9 ment most to me, and 8 and 5 spoke out too. I've been looking to switch career to some kinda supportive healthcare like physiotherapy, personal training or acupressure but I've thought of going straight into higher training like physiotherapy or chinese medicine instead of massager and personal trainer training first. Better accumulate knowledge from the bottom so you get a solid foundation.
Ramsay is my favourite chef, thanks for this list! Great work, I mean it.
Glad you liked it Mikko. :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts. All the best to your new career! :) Thanks for watching! #BTA186 Shine
very great video
Thanks for watching. :) #BTA 146 Monzur
I was attending culinary school and just recently decided to find an actual job and get real world experience in this profession. At first I was hesitant know I was having to start as a dishwasher/prep but I am loving every minute of it. I am determined now more than ever to work my way up in this restaurant then moving on and starting all over and gain as much knowledge as possible to be the greatest chef possible.
Thank you for sharing that with us Dalton, you are a brave man. It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. 😊 #Believe - Feb
Point 1 is great. I learnt the industry over 10 in my field with study throughout. It gives you an insight how it works so you can add your twist in your business. Interesting him and Jamie Oliver have restaurants side by side.

Amazing video!
+Lauren Basamot Thank you. #BTA74 Nina
During the passion topic, GR spoke of taking the time to learn and master your craft at each level. That really hit home for me as I recently graduated college after decades of management experience. I get a bit jaded with the job market. I have all this new knowledge that I need to take more time to master and become a greater success where I am before I can expect to see big results in my career despite having both a degree and experience.
+Keith Greene It takes time. But you will do it. :) #BTA74 Ivan
excellent video. i like him!!!!
+enock muhereza Thank you! #BTA65 Sam

I can't agree more with his first couple of sentences. Leave your comfort and put yourself in a challenging situation ...
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. :) #BelieveNation #BTA645 Luka
i guess every quotes was normal except the quote engage with customer.I also write quotes but it's basically for myself because i think that only you can inspire yourself more better than everybody. Everyone can become successful but the one who respect his job and takes it's as a passion is beyond incredible. I'm only 12 year old and i understand this things so that's means you have done a good job by making this video. keep it like these. good luck.

Sorry, I don't know the track. It's usually added by our editor and comes from free music provided by CZcams here: czcams.com/users/audiolibrarymusic or it's a part of the source video, the link is in the description box. +Paul Chan Thanks for sharing that Paul. :) #BTA74 Ivan
Thanks for this vid buddy! He's always been one of my favorite people in the world, I had considered a career as a chef before but got caught up in the chase for money in daily life. I learned and listened from my mum and still use some of her techniques today.....I fng LOVE to cook, to experiment and challenge myself, like Gordon said it's a never ending quest! At this point i think it is my calling. My previous world travels and exposure to so many cultures and dishes also has played a part in my love for food. I think this vid finally did it. But I have a concern.....I'm 39. Am I too late? I want to kick ass in the kitchen and see people love my dishes....fahk I think I'm too late..... :(
It's never too late to do what you love. Here are some videos that I hope will be of help to you: czcams.com/video/PBugSKrM-44/video.html / czcams.com/video/xiry6iaKzKo/video.html / czcams.com/video/Q6wjhFGDQ-c/video.html & czcams.com/video/9Y6sWArU1h8/video.html Always #Believe in yourself.
