    Sonos Era 300 as surrounds should be angled towards main listening position or face straight the TV? Should they go just behind the couch like in the picture or further behind?

    Ooof - guys, the toeing in of each speaker contradicts what Sonos engineers just confirmed in your Q&A. Eras 300s should face your TV straight on.

    The era300 in the rear should face forward when used as surrounds. No sound comes from the front speaker. There’s no reason to point it inward towards the seating position like normal rears.

      @tjfrost9743 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yeah but then aren’t you shooting the sound of one of your left or right speakers directly away from you? I think you angle it towards you because you will pick up on the left and right tweeters sound instead of just hearing one tweeter really loud. I’m pretty sure Sonos knows there product specs better than us. They did make them 🤔

    I think I’m going to replace my Sonos ones with era 300s for surround. Should I avoid placing them next to glass? Also, is more distance from the wall better? Rather than the minimum space necessary, how far should I place them from a wall to sound optimal? Thank you

      If you have the Arc sound bar consider using the 1’s or 100’s as a front stereo pair, added to the living room surround sound with 300’s as rears

      This is not possible.. unless you add them to a different “room” and play them together with the arc and 300s. But this doesn’t include them in the surround sound setup. Or am I wrong?

    You also shouldn’t be placing the 300’s in the rears facing inward like normal
    Book shelf speakers. They should be positioned straight looking forward considering they are bipolar speakers. That have side firing speakers.

      Hi Matt! With Era 300, the sound is sent in all directions, so locating a sweet spot in the room is not necessary. When using Era 300 as surround sound speakers for your home theater setup, just be sure to place the speakers so the front grilles are generally facing toward the TV, not away. So you might have them angled toward the TV or have them facing straight ahead in the direction of the TV. Hope this information is helpful.

      @@sonosquestion. We are trying to remove floor stands from our greatroom area. We want to mount the Era300s to the wall. The only problem here is we want to mount them on our back wall behind our chairs high up the wall. We have 9’ ceilings and unfortunately we would have to mount them above our window curtains. This means there will probably only be about 14” to the top of the speaker by the time we are done mounting them. Our living room or greatroom area is big enough where we do not have our chairs against the wall behind us. Our chairs are several feet away from the wall behind us where the sonos Era300s will be. The reason we are saying this is if we mounted the speakers at shoulder height on the wall. There is a strong chance someone will bump into them if they walk by the area. So we want to go higher. In order to do that we have to go above our curtains. This way the power cord can dangle down behind the curtain and be hidden all the way down to the outlet behind the curtain.
      Now that this explanation is out of the way as to why we want to do this. We do intend to angle the speaker in a downward angle toward where we sit out in the middle of the floor. If we angle the speaker. The top of the speaker will now no longer be pointing straight up. It will have some angle to it or have more room to throw the upward sound it’s designed to project. Will this be ok and still work well.
      If you suggest mounting them upside down still. Won’t this now project the sound downward at an angle toward and down into the curtain below it? In our opinion the sound could get lost down in between the curtain and the wall and window behind the curtain.
      Also if we mount speakers upside down. Will the wall mount block the top of the speaker. Just another couple of details we want to make sure of in your reply.
      Thanks for your input.

    Can I use an Era 300 with an existing Gen 1 Beam? Or does the trio require all to support Dolby atmos, ie I need an Arc to get the most out of my Era 300s to have the sound profile/bitrate play?
    If I am staying with a Beam, Era 100s are my best bet then, correct?

      Hi there! Both Era 300 and Era 100 are only compatible with systems using the Sonos S2 app. So if you are interested in connecting them to a Beam, it will need to be a Beam Gen 2. And when the volume is in 30 in my friend’s era 300 is alteady really loud but in mine not that much like is in his, and in his era 300 the sound is very spacial and in dolby atmos really can hear the seperation of the instruments, the sound of mine is incredible too so i dont believe that a speaker problem, that is a hardware problem, pls i nees to fix this

    Such a good video. I'm just about to buy a pair and upgrade my ones. 2 ft upper clearance I should be able to do that. What about the sides? And how does upside down mounting work? Not how to do the mount upside down, but the sound profile.

    • @sonos
      @sonos  Před rokem +1

      All great questions! When Era 300 is placed next to a wall or on a shelf, leave at least 1" (2.5 cm) clearance in back and 8” (20.32 cm) on each side of the speaker for optimal sound 👍 With Era 300, the sound is sent in all directions so sound profile should be great even when positioned upside down. And Trueplay tuning will optimize sound for your specific space.

    Do you have measurements with REW for example ( Room EQ Wizard ) to see the power of the room calibration ?
    Is the calibration customizable ?
    Does it allow to manually make parametric filters or import them in a .txt file or convolver for example ?

    Greetings

    • @sonos
      @sonos  Před rokem +1

      Hi Juan Jose! Sonos uses Trueplay to help tune Sonos speakers, and levels of calibration will vary depending on every user's individual space. You can access it via the Sonos app. What's great about Trueplay is that is uses the microphone on your Sonos system to measure how sound in a room hits the corners, doors, walls, windows, ceiling, and every other surface. Then, it will adjust for optimal sound for that room.
      After you tune your speaker, you can make further adjustments by changing your EQ settings. These settings are applied on top of the adjustments already made by Trueplay tuning.
      If you move your Sonos speaker to a new location or change its configuration (like making or separating a stereo pair), you should go through the Trueplay tuning process again to update its settings.
      Hope this information is helpful!

      @@sonos Thank you for your kindness in answering.
      I have clear that Trueplay is in charge of the room calibration,the question is to be able to see at some point the power of that calibration and if it is customizable enough having made measurements with REW ( Room EQ Wizard ) for example.
      That's how I do it on my 5.1 in my living room,I make measurements to see what I have first in the room and then with external EQ I adjust with the precision I need.
      I will keep an eye out for future videos but to date there is no soundbar that after applying your factory room calibration,we can manually implement more filters manually to adjust as fine as possible.
      the equipment.
      The moment I see it,I will make the switch from my 5.1 to a soundbar,as I have a large WAF factor.
      Just an example for you to understand my position:
      On my mobile I have the Neutron Player app for Android and its parametric equalizer has 20-25 targets and you can put up to 60 filters per channel.
      I have a target for the car,work area,more personal listening room,etc,etc.
      To be able to make such a personalized equalization, first you have to make measurements.
      It would be nice if I could transfer my comment to the Sonos department on these issues and see if in the future it is possible to implement the possibility of putting also a manual and customizable equalization.

      Regards.
