  • KHDK Paranormal II Gary Holt Parametric EQ Overdrive Pedal!
    Anyone who knows me know that I love overdrive pedals and I love KHDK pedals. This Gary Holt Paranormal II is a seriously awesome pedal.
    Guitars are midrange instruments, and to have a built in parametric EQ in an overdrive pedal just makes a lot of sense. To have that level of control in an overdrive pedal is really awesome. It's easy to dial in a frequency that you either want to boost or cut to help shape your tone right from the pedal.
    Not to mention, the gain control that feeds the amount of signal into the overdrive circuit from the parametric EQ gives you a lot of flexibility in how gritty and dirty the pedal can sound without being too harsh.
    I can't say enough good things about this pedal. It's a lot of fun to play and you get some really great tones that sit well in a mix.

    Great review and explanation of how to get the most out of this pedal! This is going to help me get the most out of mine.

      Awesome man, glad to hear that. Enjoy it. It’s becoming one of my favourites!

    I absolutely love mine. I was using the JHS Haunting Mids plus whatever TS-style pedal I felt like using for the day, but the Haunting Mids adds a TON of hiss. I jumped on the Paranormal II literally the second I could. It's the best boost I've ever used. Thanks for the video! I like seeing how other people use it.

      It’s quickly becoming one of my favourites to be honest. I’m a big fan of the Ascendancy as well, the mid boost is really nice on that one. But nothing beats the control the Paranormal has. I also find the gain adjustment between the circuits really pleasing. Fantastic pedal all around.

    Thanks for making this video. There are no demo videos save one nordic metal dude who posted a demo when he got it as part of the mystery pedal release. I was totally lost when I got this pedal bc I had zero experience with Parametric EQs and this helped immensely. I put this in front of my Ceriatone Leviathan on channel 2 and I was able to dial in some sick tones. Fantastic pedal! Love your Root BTW. I would love to get the Jazzmaster Sig.

      Thanks for watching man and glad it helped! I know lots of people can get confused by the para eq but once you get the basic concept they are so awesome to shape your tone. Cheers.

    If you can get your hands on one, I'd do it, I like mines number like 230 of the limited run. I put it in the effects loop tho, and mainly just use it for its parametric and drive

    This reminds me of another pedal with Gary Holt's name on it, the Pro Tone Gary Holt, I'm guessing this is the superior pedal but the PTP one also looks good.

    • @ScottBynoe
      @ScottBynoe  Před 2 lety +1

      Ya the Pro Tone one is a mid boost if I’m not mistaken. Looks pretty cool actually. Gray raves about that pedal.

    Hey Scott - what do you like better for a boost overdrive for Gibson’s into a Marshall: This Paranormal II or the Ghoul Screamer? I have both and may cut one loose to make room for other stuff. I actually find myself using my SD-1w most of the time these days.
    Thanks,
    Mike

      I think you answered your own question haha, use what you like. You can't go wrong with an SD-1

    What do you like better, this or the Sgt D pedal? Would you say the amp side of thr Sgt D spits out a JCM 800 sound since that is what he used then, or is the pedal really focused on a specific tone that he shot for?

    • @ScottBynoe
      @ScottBynoe  Před 2 lety +1

      I like this one. No hesitation. Just clicks with my style better than the SGT D. I never really liked the amp side of the SGT D to be honest. I loved the boost though.
      I’d say it was a circuit more to capture his tone and the original circuit he used to use instead of trying to clone a JCM. If that makes sense.

    • @dq7860
      @dq7860 Před 2 lety +1

      @@ScottBynoe The boost side on the Sgt. D is brilliant, it's based on the TC Electronic Booster+ Line Driver & Distortion pedal.

    You can get that tone out of a Vox VT20x if you play with it enough. I was hoping this pedal was special.

      It’s better IMO. KHDK are top shelf pedals. Small run, all hand made.
