I want to keep my old phone on a $15 a month Mint plan and keep it in my car, so I still have a workable phone if I forget and leave my phone at home which I have done numerous times, or as a backup if something goes wrong with the new phone. My late husband once ran over his phone!
Thanks for the video. Attempting to transfer contents of old Moto G7 phone to new Moto Power 5G phone. At 4:02, you show the response to entering "set up my device" in the Google app is a "getting started" screen. All I ever get in response to "set up my device" key-in is a Google web search, with no entry into the source (old) phone sequence that you show. What is different here? on the old phone, Devices in Google settings never shows any available devices. As the new phone is still in the setup sequence, I cannot verify if there are any permission issues on it. Sim card has been moved to the new phone.

You probably can do that if your google drive has enough space to back up all your old phone's data. I have 46 GB on my old phone (google drive total free data is 20GB), so you can see already it isn't going to work...
I found this method, even using cable connected phones very unreliable for transferring contacts. For apps it is good. For some reason it left out most of the contacts with whom I have communicated the most. Some in Canada, some in USA and some in Mexico. Very weird. Using contacts saved/backed up to SD card - insert in new phone then imported to new phone is 100% effective (for me) BTW - those contemplating Wondershare apps for transfer to Androids, I found their software very cumbersome and unstable.
HOW do you transfer ONLY the LOGIN SCREEN (sign-in with the numpad)? On my old Ace one 5G, that Login or PIN screen contained a TRANSPARENT BACKGROUND with a 9 digit numeric pad in WHITE.
I want to setup a new Motorola G85 by copying data from an older Samsung J4+, but when I have connected both devices with a cable, the old Samsung shows a pop-up where I can select between 2 apps, Downloads and SmartSwitch. It looks like this method of copying data is not working on this older Samsung phone. I have also tried the WiFi method, but it’s incredibly slow and is trying to reconnect every 5-10 minutes. Any suggestions what I should do to fix this? Thanks!

Got the new Motorola g5g... upgraded from a Motorola E5 Plus. Set up botched... didn't get all the Data from the old phone! I now have the cables and adapters to connect the phones! If I factory reset and transfer data to the new phone... will I still be recognized by my Metro pcs account? Will the new phone be ready to go..or will I need to contact Metro for additional set up? I up-graded from an older Motorola E5 plus to a g5g! I thought I did everything right... but I didn't have access to WiFi at the time! Used data transfer and got the phones to connect! At the end of the day looks like most of my apps are good to go! But it looks like the pic and text data left out some years (the ones taken from my last phone) the old data from the past phones is on the new phone)??? The old phones stored data on the old email address... and the last (most recent phone) used a different email address! In photo I can bring up both email addresses! The old pics are in the older address but the most recent (several years) are not there! Or I can't find them! And I have no idea where the other data might be from the most recent phone! From your video I think I will be resetting to factory and starting over! Hopefully will a transfer cable! How do I get all the data this time? Something I should do or not do? Help! Any way to find the most recent old data? Or avoid losing it again with a start over process!

Here's some info this guy (accidentally or on purpose) left out that you MUST do. 1) SIM card must be in new phone - I took mine out of the old & put into the new. I happen to be with MetroPCS & am staying with MetroPCS as my carrier. If you are changing carriers, you'll have a new SIM for the new phone, put it in...leave the old SIM in the old phone 2) must connect to a wireless network - same network your old phone is currently connected to (you will need this if you're going to transfer over wifi anyway) 2a) It is at this point the new phone asks if you want to connect with a wire between the phones OR 'skip' to transfer over a wireless connection (as he describes) 3) must sign into your google account if you want any hope that ANY of your Google Play downloaded apps transfer from your old phone. FYI....9 of 10 of my old phone, legit installed apps (Google play downloaded) DID NOT transfer - v-e-r-y disappointing since I now have to re-download each app... huge PITA

After setting up my new Samsung phone with the transfer from my other motorilla phone I'm looking in the apps and there's motorillops.then I went into the Google Play Store to look for any updates and there's a drop down menu on each update ask me which one I wanna do it on. Why not just backup your current android using Google Backup then restore on your new android?

It depends on how much data you're transferring. It will be faster than wifi though.

Correction, Google Play installed apps will automagically install later

I don't think so. But I believe you can back your what's app messages and there's a way to import them over to a new phone.
