Van Tour of Nomad Living in a Tiger 4x4 Van

  • Today we meet my friend Marshall who has one of my all-time favorite rigs--if I win the lottery, I'd place an order on one of these the next day!! It is a Tiger Bengal made by ProVan. It begins with a 4x4 1-ton truck from either Ford, Chevy or Ram that is cab and chassis only. It is delivered to the Tiger plant and they build the RV portion onto the back, exactly to your specifications. You get it just how you like it. I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this thing and would buy one in a heartbeat if I could afford it!

My Dad's Ford Diesel had 314K on it when he passed away. My Dodge Cummins has 246K, My Son's has 335K. A mechanic friend just got in a Dodge Cummins which finally broke at 1M,200K. Haven't heard of any Chevy's going that far, especially gas ones.

    • @technicalitems731
      @technicalitems731 Před 3 lety

True. I have lots of equipment, tractor, truck, etc. Diesel has lots of advantages when towing. Mpg. Torque. Longetivity. Engine braking. And not having to let off the throttle in fear. - I’d have to see a spreadsheet of his reasons for the 6.0 gas. They are great gas v8 in something like a van that isn’t towing but needs a little beef. Economical to replace. Like a FedEx driver rig. But a bulky camper bed and a trailer...nah. You want diesel. But, I have to say, this guy may have analyzed the miles he will actually drive and crunched the numbers and went off of miles he will use and replacement cost. And he kinda sounded like he doesn’t like power. He said he likes small cars and bikes. So, I bet he tows at slow conservative speeds. And the biggest thing that DOES make sense about avoiding diesels right now....the emission system are ultra expensive to repair and it kills the fuel mileage. I can’t argue with that. Otherwise, I’m full in on the diesel for towing policy.

@@runnindownadream8106 I have a rare EcoDiesel 3.0L V-6 engine with a tow package (special button can be pushed to activate it). I just got back from a 12,000 mile trip over two months and averaged 21/mpg so the eco part is right. I'm sure it can tow a trailer like that easy, though I've never towed anything. A diesel has great torque, but slow acceleration, which is a good thing when your van is filled with all kind of stuff. Anyway, I'm sure if you got at least a RamPromaster 2500, towing wouldn't be a problem; a 3500 would definitely do the job.

To each his own. On this channel there's room for everyone and especially their individual needs & budgets. That being said, CHEAP RV LIVING's inspired vision, charm, universal appeal and claim to fame supersedes costly, complicated rigs. Instead it hallows the qualities that money can't ever buy, like simplicity, humble, astounding ingenuity, caring and friendship of those that love this lifestyle, will do it any way they can and want to help others learn how to do it too. WE LOVE you Bob & THOWA. You're showing many that it is possible to get out there and live a good life without a lot of fuss. Thanks for each and every wonderful interview. XXOOXX ;D

I saw a guy right before this video on another channel who was previously houseless.
And he showed off his minivan he acuired cheap and he literally had everything he owned in there and he beamed with pride over his home and the way he set it up if he had 500.00 bucks in it it was a lot,it goes to show you what you can do without a lot of money and yes the man worked full time.
Granted he didn't have any of the nice things that the gentleman with the expensive rig had,but the guy with the minivan was loving life and if the minivan had the dependability of the tiger I rather live in the minivan,it had heart and soul.
Quite frankly I didn't care one bit for the interior setup of the tiger at all, but I'm sure it earns it's name on the road. I'd love to see that thing do it's thing on the desert road.

@Snazzlecat I like the idea, concept, of the 4x4 thing, But, over $100,000 for this concept? Way too much!!! They didnt put enough thought into the layout it if you ask me. If I spend that kind of $$$ I would choose a small European RV van over this one any time and ship it up here. The layout these small European rv's have is just incredible, and they cost about the same what he paid for.

Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong at all having the dollars to afford the Tiger, Trailer and a few bikes but there is more than just one way to do it. If ya have less dollars ya need some extra creativity to make it work.

Interesting rig definitely built for off-road vs inclement weather traction(the most off-road 4 wheel drive vehicles experience, is when the accidently drive on to their front lawn). For those who want to know about the system names its an Engel fridge not angle, and Katadyn water filtration. Found the website but could not find anything but personal filter devices. The interior fridge is a novakool built in Vancouver, Canada. They have units that run on 12 volt 120v or both. They do not have auto-defrost and they are not cheap.

I gave my 77 Chevy Blazer Chalet to my son. It was one of the original fiberglass campers on a 4x4. It needed a lot of work and he's a mechanic and will enjoy it now, I stay in my 4runner while boondocking, lol, would love to have the Blazer back if it was restored though, was too costly for me to do though...love these one piece units!

I'm impressed with this vehicle, but I must admit I've seen much better van conversion, more room, better distribution for a fraction of the price this gentleman claims it cost, but nevertheless it is a really nice camper vehicle. Thank you for the video always enjoy them.

That sounds a lot like the concept they had with this class A I bought. When cobra built the Newports they build according to the specific requests of whom ever was buying it. This too also could come on either a Ford a Chevy chassis with either the 454 Chevy engine or what ever the equivalent would've from Ford. Seems like a cool concept, but unlike the truck nose on that 20 some years later it's very hard to by parts for, because the configurations are different depending on how it was built 20 some years ago. Yeah anyway great interview as always. I always love seeing people have their rigs set up. Thank you for doing them

He is an interesting cat, he obviously did a lot of research before he built the rig, I disagree going gas vs diesel.

We have a 2006 Nameste Chevy Tigre we bought used in 2010 for about 37k. Even today in 2024 our Tigre works great. We don’t do a lot of camping anymore but my son, who is also an engineer, likes to take it to work when he’s on location.
Im gonna upgrade the inside to make it more my whimsical beachy style this year so i can take it back on the road. We used to drive it up and down from SoCal to PDX for years living in both areas bc of family. Now we are just in SoCal so the truck rarely gets a workout…but it will soon enough.
