- A fairly popular new franchise in Ottawa just opened up. It's called German Doner Kebab. It was a suggestion from Sayha and Vanessa but unfortunately they weren't able to help me out this week due to the pandemic quarantine. The whole concept was a little weird but I looked it up. Apparently there is a large Turkish population in Germany and they were the ones to introduce Germany with Doner Kebabs. This franchise has been open since 1989. Now I finally got the chance to check them out.
They're located at: 272 Elgin Street
They're open 7 days a week from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm.
the sauces are made in house, the white one is Garlic sauce. The yellow/orange one is yoghurt sauce. The red one is spicy sauce. no ranch or bbq sauce.
Thank you! I was wondering what they were.
The sauces are actually for the kebab itself, but there's no harm in using them for the fries. I love the curry ketchup one, I like to dip or use a knife to spread different sauces on each bite of kebab :)
I'm going in again to put them on the kebab in that case. Thanks!!
Döner as it is sold in Germany(like what they have) is not Turkish and was first sold in Reutlingen in 1969, so it does not come from Berlin as is often claimed ...
Unfortunately, very few Germans know that
But hey, most Americans don't know that hamburgers weren't invented American
Thanks! I'm always interesting in knowing where these foods come from.
nice work, doner looked yum for sure
Thanks Christine! It really was!
In germany döner is an affordable streetfood. 15$ - no way, it has to be less than 5$.
Also the bread looks more like a waffle than a pita.
Whoa I definitely have to check out the doner in Germany. A lot of things in Ottawa are a lot more pricey. I'll try to look for better bargains.
Oooh looks good! It kinda reminds me of Wolfdown.
What's wolfdown?

@@theTomaMato ah I see what you mean but that's the name of the restaurant. I am always in search of good Turkish kebabs in Ottawa. I went to Istanbul and tried out the kebabs there and it spoiled me! It was so good!
