Hank Marvin was the reason why I learnt to play guitar, now I'm 73 years old and like to play his unforgettable instrumentals all the time . Thank you very much, Hank.
You are not the only one. It took me a year to learn to play Apache well. Now my list of "covers" is 21 super instrumental tracks from the early 1960s.
Aha, was bloody quizzing myself there, so I looked it up, sure enough written by Mike Oldfield and cheers for the extra info, Hank lives here in Perth (Oz one) , managed to get him out of retirement a while ago when there was floods in Qld.
@@slowuncle As I recall, back in the days before 24-hour continuous TV, the stations would cease transmissions around 11pm. Australia's ABC used Oldfield's version of Wonderful Land back in the 1980s.
I am eighty years young and at the age of nineteen I started a rock band in Graaff-Reinet, South Afrca in 1962. We based our music on the Shadows and the Beatles, and we played for almost three years at local events, We called ourselves "The Plectrums" and boy, did we have fun! One of the best Hank Marvin solos I've ever heard. He usually just plays the melody line quite simply but this is a lot more rock than usual. I wish he played like this more often.
I'm a 77 years young Shadows fan. I started playing after hearing Apache. I am still playing bass in a "shadows band" and hopefully will continue to do so.
Good music never died. I hear this since I was 6 , and now I am 66. It last for generations. Never heard this title played by Shadows, really exciting. Shalute from David Ho from Hong Kong
En écoutant les Shadows, ça me rappelle ma jeunesse d'autant plus que je passionné de ce groupe Britannique depuis de nombreuses années 😆🎸🎶 Disons que ça me donne de la pêche dès que je l'écoute 😁🎤👍
Brilliant Hank, like Cliff they seem to have the elixir of youth, I saw Cliff and the Shadows at the Astoria Old Kent Road Canal Bridge when I was under 10, now 70+. They are ageless.
If ever there was a song worthy of being placed on a perpetual loop it's this piece of rare gold possessing a brilliant gem of a riff shining through shadowy and beguiling consonance. Marvin's richly textured and dynamic guitar soloing is a virtuosic rendering. The flawless arrangement covers Oldfield’s enigmatically enchanting elegy, and it seems we're “carried away" by its magic.
Probably one of the best guitar solo’s no one has ever heard but should. Also, I love the “ok guys, I’m done, so we can go back to coordinated swaying” at 2:59.
It must be an honor for Mike Oldfield to have his music played by one of his myths (Hank Marvin). The original version, of course, always remains the best.
We all love Hank but the Shadows all together were great . They worked well and to this day I'll always admire them for their contribution to great classic music . Thank you Shadows
Thanks for the upload! Have never heard or seen this one and it was a great cover. and I also wanted to hear the instrumental version of this song. Haven't done that despite loving this song since it came out. This performance is very nice really, both the sound and the sort of "impact" of them all with guitars like that having fun.
I am 74 years and i hear and love the shadows since 1959 till today, 2021 !!!
Wow!!! I remember hearing The Shadows when I was 2 years old in 1964.....and all their different 🎵🎶🎵 music and on tv...and now I'm 59!!!!!

Just an average dude making love to a strat, that's all you need to qualify.

Great stuff, Shadows! And a superb solo from Hank.
I believe Michael Oldfield wrote this tune. This is a stellar version, and we get to hear Hank show his chops on the Stratocaster!
Indeed, this is a Mike Oldfield song.
I have a vinyl sleeve of it signed by 3 original members on Moonlight Shadow! just missing 1!
Mike Oldfield covered their song "Wonderful Land" so The Shadows responded with their cover of Moonlight Shadow
Me too
If that is the case then Michael Oldfield is up there in heaven with Henry Purcell as one of the greatest English coposers of all time.
Whatever they play, you can tell by the constant smiles on their faces that they're enjoying what they do!
I cannot stop listening to the shadows. They have been my favourite group since the late 50's.
Hank Marvin is super and his rendition with the bridge he played is second to none.
Any artist combining genius and modesty as Hank Marvin does is a beautiful thing to see

What uplifting, exciting and moving guitar-playing. Let's not forget the drummer and keyboardist.
