    on Moni-man motivations:
HE IS AN ALIEN (and raised in crazy evil empire)
I'm guessing his regret spurred him to try again & get it right with the bug people
he was surprised at his own actions to begin with there...saving them was a reflex, and he didn't plan to stay after saving them, clearly he was in break up/trauma mind x1000 (recall he isn't only a failure to humans then, maybe more so to his own people and that still mattered)
on the books...well, they are evil jerks, so he might collect the info for personal use or scheming, I do not think there was any plan to take out the empire, though he might have had ambitions for himself (but I dunno even about that)
...it could go back to his alien nature. recall Debbie telling how little he understood, bringing a tree as a flower, and so on. Getting a job as a writer...there the analogy with Superman/Clark Kent is again weirdly mirrored/distorted. Nolan/Omni man probably couldn't write fiction (at least not to start/he never does). So mission reports masquerading as sci fi adventure novels could simply have been "write what you know". His travel books were well known, and likely as he literally travelled any/everywhere on earth easily. MORE MISSION REPORTS? (but maybe for viltrumites as another dual purpose?)
It's also possible he is basically just journaling, as many people used to do, and some still do. If you live 1000's of years, you probably want physical memory aids to be able to go back to, to reference, right?

I didn't know Halo's the flood either, but the timing is such Kirkman may well have homage-d or stolen them for invincible. 2001+ for the flood via halo games, 2003+ for invincible comics
    good call, dude
    edit/update
"The Sequids is based off of the extraterrestrial supervillain Starro the Conqueror, an alien starfish with the power to posses sentient life by attaching itself onto their skin.
The Sequids are also based on The Headcrabs from Half-Life."
I'm an old comic guy so Starro came to mind to me, and even the white Martians of DC /aliens of justice league animated, only very loosely (the origins & issues with green Martians only, not looks/methods...probably because the green martians are so like DC's green martians)
