    This does my head in. I can’t fathom how sanding takes off the shine and then by magic it returns with some polish. Amazing.

    The more you put into it, the more you get out of it, and it's clear, even without the video proof of your entire process, that you put a load of hard work into this paint job, and it really shows. Can't wait to see it on the scoot and out in the sunshine!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thanks so much Tommy, it has been an epic job, so many more processes than a regular paint job, at least 6 layers of paint and lacquer, all sanded in between, and hopefully it'll last for years and still hold it's finish.

    You're right to be proud of those results Del. It looks amazing. Respect to folks who do paint work for a living. So much hard work goes into a great paint job. I just did basically the same process on old , weather beaten headlights and was happy with the results. Blessings to you and Penny. Have a great weekend. ❤👍👍

    Hiya Penny and Del - wonderful video! I understand the explanation about post-paint work. But for a first timer, after putting all of that work into prep, priming, paint and clear coat the results of that first sand with must be hard to take if you're not prepared! I guess you just have to have faith in the process of finer and finer grits and polishing to bring it back to its former glory and beyond. Excellent result - the tank looks amazing! Take care, dear friends. Be well, ride safe and have a great weekend!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Před 3 měsíci

      I guess you're right, but when the finished paint surface is like glass, you'd never get that straight from the gun, so it is and improvement right from the first grit paper.. running a hand over the paint gun finish is shiney to look at but knobbly to touch.. and from first sanding that begins to smooth out, even though its gone dull, you're cutting the finish back to make it smooth.. then just work finer and finer to bring back the gloss.. it's all about feel and the satisfaction is enourmous.. .take care my friend and have a wondferul weekend.. D&Pxx

    Turned out well, when polishing tho slow down how fast you move the pad a bit and fully break down the polish, it should go almost clear. Also a dual action polisher for finishing with a soft pad will give it that bit extra shine rotary will leave holograms.

      Me too, the Street Bob is a great bike in so many ways. Way more light and agile than almost any other Harley, but that tank is just daft.. 140 miles at best and it just looks wrong... this will give me almost 200 mile range and look exactly right.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I think we've all been there Jason, that's how we learn the feel for it.. Next time try the soft foam back pads rather than harsh paper, and another good tip is to lay down a slightly heavier coat on the corners in the first place, and always be gentle as you can, let the dercreasing drag on the pads guide when to stop.. and keep wiping off to check the finish.. it's all in the practice aye !

    what I have always wondered at, is how do you know when you have sanded enough with whatever grit you are using?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Před 3 měsíci +2

      It's largley a matter of trial and error, you can feel the drag on the pad change and get "slicker" or smoother, sliding over the job easier and it smooths out, then just wipe it down with clean soft paper towel and inspect the finish, if it looks uniform and no dull patches, then you're done, and can move on to a finer grade, if not, and it's still patchy, then keep going.. but be gentle and patient all the way.

  • @ADNBIKER

    hello very interesting I have a question which bike does the tank come from because I am looking for one and I don't know which one to use thank you

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Před 15 dny

      There's a couple that fit straight on, a common choice is the Softail Slim... but then you'll end up with a dummy fuel cap on the left and I didn't want that... so the only one that has a single cap and fits srtaight on is from a Softail Low Rider S or ST... if you want the fuel gauge to work and enjoy the full tank range, you will need the correct pump to go with it!
