  • In this video we see LNER A4 Pacific No. 60009 'Union of South Africa' taking on the Carnforth Circle test circuit with a rake of 7 Mk. 1 carriages and a Class 57 in tow for added weight.
    Sister of steam speed record-holder Mallard, Number 9 is one of the most popular locomotives on the mainline and at the time of filming is the only mainline certified A4 Pacific with her sisters either undergoing overhaul or on static display in museums.
    Turn up the volume as Union takes on the gradient of Wilpshire Bank through Langho Station.

    Great shot once the 15x rolled out of the way. All these test runs with cylinder drain cocks and glands leaking make you wonder if they are not checked anymore? Steve

      Drain cocks are checked I can tell you that. As for glands, not as sure. If there''s leaking joints or other areas then those are looked at and sorted.
