I'm so glad you made this video. "Medical trauma" is a real issue for me since early childhood that I need to process regularly.

Fascinating learning experience as always, and I love the science. (By the way, nice 'do and jacket. ;)) I like Peter Levine's definition of trauma in his book "Healing Trauma" as "the debilitating symptoms that many people suffer from the after math of PERCEIVED life-threatening or overwhelming experiences." (I had no idea, for example, that car accidents are considered trauma - and I've been in 13 of them). But as he mentions, it's the perception of danger, not so much the actual danger. Being bullied to a little kid can feel life-threatening, for example - especially as most of 'em threaten you with death if you tell.
I am curious though, after 4 years of inescapable stress, I first developed fight or flight symptoms, then later the physical symptoms of dorsal vagal - but NOT the emotional ones that usually accompany it. Might that be because I learned to fight back as a little kid? I don't repress anger, but I realized I HAVE unconsciously repressed fear. Your videos, meditation, and trauma work are helping me sit with that and gently and playfully coax the repressed feelings out currently manifesting as physical symptoms. Does that sound like the right direction? It's tough while the stresses are still massive, but my attitude has shifted hugely thanks to these videos, and I have so much more hope and relaxation.
You explain things so clearly, Tanner, and have been there yourself. I echo the person who calls this channel "life altering" and share videos often. Thanks, Tanner - and I hope you eventually put all this in a book!

Hi Tanner. My "bert" has had a slow onset. I was doing ok until 4 years ago. I got overly emotionally involved in a career challenge my adult son had...then my adult daughter died suddenly 3 years ago. I'm getting excellent grief counseling...and....."bert" is still hanging around. I'm wondering about trauma being stored in my body? (Bert is my funny name for the ache).

A time traveler. I think my life would be better to not have been.
