The big difference is, it isn't just about the passion in the sport, it is also about the territorial / area rivalries too.. that have built up in Europe over hundreds and hundreds of years between different area's. Not just between countries, inside of countries too. That transcends into sport.

At first I agreed with this statement. Then I thought about how alot of South American have just as loud fans sometimes even more. And all southern american countries are younger than the USA. So what gives? Its mostly culture. Usa you go to the game to drink a beer watch it with familiy and then go home. In South America/Europe you go to the game to cheer cry and scream for 90 minutes. No commercial bullshit

I am pretty sure, as you said, that Americans can make some noise as well in some occasions (but still nothing compared to us in EU) but you have to understand that in EU this is happening in EVERY SINGLE match it doesn't matter if it is regular season, playoffs, final 4, first team with last team, rivals, the atmosphere stays the same.

You are correct, the USA clips were not the best to be had, but to be fair, they didn't use the most extreme from Europe either.
What did you want them to include, two opposing team fans throwing flares at each other, burning the stands and then brawling and then the SWAT coming in and beating everyone for an hour and then the game continues? Because that happens to ;)

See , the big difference between EU and US :
    Our clubs r not a franchise .
A club cant move . He stays in the city where he was started .
And if u born (lets say in Athens , and ur a Panatinaikos - fan , u WILL NEVER change the club . If u with a club for once , u most likley stay with that club ur whole life.
Its a kind of tribe - ish , cause EU hast been tribes in their history , and sport is what back in time was war. Well , and we still have that "warriormentality" when it comes to sport.
In the US , u have fans.
    In EU u have fanatics
In the US , sport is entertainment .
In EU , sport its religion

I will say this *in ALL seriousness* , there is a series in YT called "American Basketball Players Talking About European Basketball Atmosphere" and it has five parts. Pick one at random and watch it or react to it (noone has ever done that yet, so you'd be the first. It is always good to do something *MORE* than the others, eh? ;) ) and you will see that those clips from Europe are not even their "Final form" ... ooooh boy ... one of the craziest I think it's Kyle Hine's story where he tells the tale of how one of his teammates was waiting in the corner to hit the three point and he got hit with a boulder instead.
Next time some moron analyst says that Luca Doncic or Jokic can't handle pressure, you will be happy to know much much better than them :)

  • @felixmalcherek2919
    @felixmalcherek2919 Před 2 lety +5

There are a couple of reasons for this:
    1) Season length: NBA is 82 games per team, most european leagues are 2 games against each team, which generally results in 30-40 games per team (1 away 1 at home), cups/tournaments/playoffs excluded.
    2) long-ass standing rivalries: most cities in Europe are way older than the USA, plenty of time to make solid rivalries; not to mention the fact that some of the crazier clips included where from same-city matches (Moscow, Athen, Belgrad, Istanbul) which gets people even more riled up.
    3) Slavs, Greek, Turks (most of the clips came from eastern european games) are absolutely batshit insane when it comes to basketball, it's a passion I've only seen rivaled by playing filippino streetballers :P
I agree, come playoff time the NBA crowds get more hyped, but the same happens in Europe :)

European sportclubs often compete in different sports as is the case for the teams you've seen in this video, they also have 100 some what year history and moving a team to a different city is completely out of the question. European fans will sometimes fight(literally I mean)for their team. In the US you like watching sport but the bond with your team will never be as strong as it is in Europe.

It is seems less staged, more free, less restricted, for the croud in Europe, right ?
NBA did a great job, creating excitement for Basketball arround the world, since the 90s .
And here, what fans did and do at soccer, basically just transitioned to Basketball.
In America, people maybe are just more used to the sport, so there are more routines, that partly became generic over time.
You have a more military like planned way to cheer. Yeah, it's more like a parade, with the cheerleaders, following strict instructions too.
I find both atmospheres amazing, when the generic part is over.
From a sportive standpoint, i think i would really get into trouble, performing in that foggy air, in the european arena.
Like , come on, even bengal fire :-p .
Another example in Europe is, in Germany , also very clean like in the US, but i just don't like this robotic thing they do,
clapping these to thingys together, the whole game. This is just the worst.
It robs the atmosphere's chill feeling it could have, and what i think is part of Basketball,
the layed back mood, the elegance, the flow.
And then there are thousands of people clapping with these inflatable sticks like there was no tomorrow.
I mean they clap them no matter how the game is going. It is not even a normal crowd reaction.
I mean okay, they clap it faster or slower or in rythm , but come on man. That's not chill.
It's so unnatural, like a metronom, for staying in tact on a piano, for beginners that need it.
I wish that would be more like in the US here in Germany.
We watched the NBA in the 90s, and didn't even imagine we could have that one day here too.
And now we have a pro league, and it is clapping sticks in the crowd. Sadge.
I wonder how they can even think straight, with that crap going on.
No wonder they play so stiff, compared to the NBA or other leagues.
I bet almost all that is left, is the lines the coach was drawing on a board.
What you hear influences your thought processes, and what you do with your body, big time,
and all they hear is clap clap clap clap all game long.
It bet it is so distracting from calmly focusing on the game, and what your next move will be.
Also, i imagine, normally, a lot is being spontanous, right ?
How, if you are busy ignoring something disturbing, constantly.
There is a reason, why it should be quiet in a Tennis match, or a snooker match.
I can't even watch it on tv because of that clapping crap is annoying me so hard.
Brains off, uga aga, let's clap senseless. Come on man, really ?

No one follows basketball in the uk , well only a very small minority. You have to understand that your sports in the usa are minority sports that are only really popular in the united states.

The difference is shown in these kind of videos: Americans whining about the paper on the floor all the time. Because (in this case) the game starts too late. Are you in some kind of rush? You need catch a train? No. Then let's party. I don't know it if it sthat B&W but to me as a European the toiletpaper on the pitch and the singing immediately following it is really funny and great at the same time.
And in the end you are not as passionate as Southern Europeans and Latin Americans. You just aren't nor are we over here in northern Europe.

When I attend a sporting event I attend for the sport and to watch the players on the field play. While the game is going I also love to yell, cheer, scream, drink etc. The conclusion I've come to is that people have different conceptions of display of passion.

  • @alonepshtein9052
    @alonepshtein9052 Před 2 lety

Americans are not even close to our passion. In europ if your team lost you are sad for a week. you screem the songs in the game in order to push the players and they are paying you back by fighting on the court
