  • Today I just want to give you a quick tip on breathing techniques for shooting. I think this is so important because the way shooting is taught for the most part people is for you to hold your breath.
You can join your fellow team members that are learning how to shoot and become Warriors here: www.chrissajnog.com/join-the-...

In fact, when I was running the sniper course, that's what I taught. But you know, in that case, there are going to be times, you don't want to hold your breath, but you are going to want to shoot during what's called your natural respiratory pause. So you breathe in, you breathe out, and during that natural pause when you want to break your shot, and that's when you're taking long shots, like you're taking sniper, but if you're not doing that what you need to do, what you want to do is you want to continue to breathe naturally and people will argue this.
I hear it all the time. I see the comments on CZcams and yes I'm talking to you. If you're one of those people that left those comments then this quick tip is for you, but what you want to do is keep breathing and the reason you hear this bad advice is because people breathe the wrong way.
We are naturally supposed to breathe in and out through our noses and our bellies are supposed to rise and fall as we breathe. But if you're to take a deep breath in right now, go ahead and do it with me.
Most of you, when you do that (okay, you can let it out), what you tend to do is you raise up your shoulders and your chest goes out, so when you're shooting, that is going to affect your shooting platform. Whereas if you're just doing belly breathing like you should do, it's much healthier for you. Get much more oxygen and you'll be able to shoot better. Your belly goes in and out, and unless you're laying down on your belly, it's not going to affect you. So for instance, when you're shooting with your pistol, you're breathing in and your shoulders, and these are all accessory muscles there moving up and down, okay? So you don't want to do that. You want to belly breathe and that is going to make you shoot better. It's not only is it the proper way to breathe, but it's going to help you shoot better.
So that is your quick tip of the day. If you like this video, please like, share, subscribe, do all that stuff. That really helps me out. It allows me out. Not only do I appreciate it, but it allows me to actually give out more free content here on CZcams, which I love doing, but if you'd like to take a deeper dive into any of my content, all of my content, and more, go to chrissajnog.com. Look for the link below this video and sign up and become a part of my team, become a member and me and my team, my coaches, we will help you out. We will answer all your questions. If you've been following me here on CZcams for a while, I haven't had the time to be able to answer questions here, but I can do it all there. I can help you out, so please go check that out. Check out the links below this video. I really hope this has helped you out and until next time, keep paving your path to perfection.

In 2009, I came home from a deployment and my oldest son, who was 3 or 4 at the time, wouldn’t eat for almost 2 weeks... Being a father I was obviously concerned, so I asked him about it and his answer really hit me hard… He said, “Dad, if I eat I’ll grow up and if I grow up I’ll become a daddy. And if I become a daddy, I’ll have to leave my family.” My boys barely knew who I was and I couldn’t let them grow up without a father...
I realized at that moment my family needed me a lot more than the Navy needed another SEAL. So I put in for retirement the next day…
Back then I knew I wanted to be with my family more than anything, so I made changes in my life that allowed me to be at home.
We all want more time to spend with the people we love or doing the things we love. That’s why I’m here to help!

August 1962 USAF M16 qualifying, instructor talked about not holding your breath. He taught us to squeeze off a round during our exhale rhythm. Qualified expert for the next 21 years. Probably because I really enjoy the shooting sport and still shoot to this day! Really enjoy your videos. I do fairly well instinct shooting 95% inside 8 and 9 ring with my 9mm and 45acp at 7 yards. After watching your front sight video that is my current practice method and I really think it’s helping!!!! Thanks….

Wow Chris, never heard about the term belly breathing, amazing, you can see barely your chest moving. Outstanding.

I learned about this just a few years ago. It has really improved my accuracy.
The other key part of this for me was to relax my body when breaking the shot and during the shot, (follow through).

Being taught diaphragm breathing to play woodwinds in school band was one of the most impactful lessons I've experienced. It was wild to me that I was BREATHING incorrectly. It just seems so second nature. But yes absolutely, belly breathing, or diaphragm breathing, is the healthiest and most effective form.

Hey Chris thank you sir for your channel and assistance. Do you mean that for us beginner shooters - long range shots or shooting in general would be to adhere to a diaphragm or belly breathe (like a singer does)? And snipers follow a different technique because of their laying flat? Just wanted to get more clarity or maybe you expand on this in another vid. Thank you sir

Chris: does it make any sense if you're trying to develop long range target shooting skills, to start with a .22 cal rifle, then "advance" to a. .556 or .30 cal, or whatever?

Great video. I guess I'm one of the few who habitually belly breathes. I've never understood why people don't do that. To me, it's much more natural.

Lot of people do it because they are holding in their stomach to try and hide their paunch and by doing this it makes their chest look larger and they think they are more intimidating to others.

      1) learn to focus on the target, and work to have both eyes open - the goal is a clear target, with the dot hovering on the target. that eliminates 75% of the wobble.
      2) intentionally wobble the dot around the target, like a wide U shape (some prefer a figure 8)
      3) take up all the trigger slack as you wobble away from the center and press as you move back to center. your 'surprise break' will happen in the zone.
      4) stay on the dot as you follow through the recoil, refocus on the target, repeat the process.

İ used to take my shots when exhaling slowly it was feeling my hands and body was more stable maybe it was wrong technigue but i was able to hit a half body target from 200 meters almost every single time with a iron sighted g3 rifle.

"...unless you're laying down on your belly, it's not going to affect you.", but the thumbnail of this video shows someone shooting while laying on their belly! A video about improving pistol shooting while standing should have a thumbnail showing a person shooting a pistol while standing. I clicked on it thinking I was going to hear about improving my accuracy while laying prone.

I actually practice breathing looking through the scope with a empty gun, if the cross hairs are moving up and down your not breathing right! I’m Not a expert just a average guy trying to shoot better.

    What is belly breath explain????????

    • @frankberry9642
      @frankberry9642 Před 4 lety

Try this. Breathe out, and as you do pull your stomach muscles in. No just let your stomach muscles relax. You should feel a small amount of air being pulled in. By pulling in your stomach muscles again, you'll exhale the last breath. You're not taking in a lot of air, but you don't need a lot to take a controlled shot.
When I teach in my shooting club I like to get my people to use the technique of Quadrant Timing. I tell my pupils to inhale by relaxing their stomach muscles, to a count of four, exhale by squeezing their stomach muscles to a count of four, and before they breathe in again to press their triggers to a count of four. This is simple to practice, but not easy to do consistently. However, if you do practice, you will shoot at a more relaxed pace, and are less likely to dither on the trigger.
