Class 12- Deep Neckline Theory [What changes to make if front & back neck is deep]
Vložit
- čas přidán 12. 09. 2015
- In this video I have shown what changes to make to the pattern when you are going deep on the back neck as well. When the front neck and back neck is deep, there will not be any support for the dress at that point and hence it tends to slip off the shoulder. Hence, we need to reduce it from the shoulder. What proportions to reduce is shown in this video.

Hi Krishna, did not find reply option under your comment, hence replying here. The back neck deep theory is applicable when both the necklines are deep. If one of them [either back or front] is high, then there is support for the neckline and hence this theory would not be applicable. Hope I am clear...and thank you for your appreciation :-)
okay, okay, got it!! I ws jst confused, but now its clear.. :) thank you for your reply..and waiting for your future videos..(espcly kurtis with darts)..nywys your video tutorials are really helpful for a beginner like me!!! thanks a lot!!!
madam, I have a small request too.. If we need to consider anything like this in the case of broader (wider) necklines, then please tell us about in ur future tutorials...tq
hi savita all ur videos are really nice and easily understandable. ...u explain each and every step very patiently and all ur pattern drawings are very neat...keep it up and keep going...please keep posting more videos.
so lets say i want my front neck at 5 inches, and back neck at 9 1/2, should i reduce the shoulder or keep it standard?
ps: thanks in advance!
Thank you so much for your kind words.
mam, may I know this rule is also applied for Saree blouse...
Mam it is super nobody teaches like this I have been attending tailoring classes but they never say differences between various measurements if we ask doubt also they will say u follow the same. When we follow same it won't come properly. You are really great and thank so much mam

Hi, I'm Christina here. thank u so much for ur excellent videos. its very very useful for me.
In this back theory i hv one doubt, ie u started the back sh to sh 15". If the Sh to Sh is 19" Wt we should do. cause u started from 7.5".
back neck depth i need 8" & front neck depth 6.5"
sh to sh is 19" is 9.5. height and stout person. pls I'm waiting for ur reply eagerly
Thanks. Whatever the shoulder measurement, the theory remains the same. If 19", you would mark 9.5" and reduce from that as explained in this class.
slightly confused at the end. 16 shoulder SS for 7" deep back neckline ( 6 1/2" measure) will be 1/4" inch inward
am i right or wrong?
got it
please upload blouse cutting and Princess cut blouse

Hello ma'am, greetings
Just a query- if we are already attaching dori in the back neck for the beautification as well as for support purposes, do we have to make these changes for the deep back neck?
mam ur classes r too good ,l was a fashion designer student & I usually stitch my garments myself but it will not be perfect at armhole always there will be one or other problem while watching ur video I understood some mistakes in me . now I will follow ur video & I'm sure it will work.
thank you mam for replying, I have a dought can u pls clear it.my arm round measurement is 15"(7 1/2) when I stitch kameez/ kurta with this measurement the arm hole area will not be perfect & a lot of lose comes at that area but when I take the arm round measurement as 6" it will be perfect .so mam I would like to know that how much max measurement should I take for arm hole measurement to avoid lose at front part of arm round.
Archana VS same problem is with me
i also have prob with armhole
hai ma'am...
i have a doubt.. what if i make my neck more wide like say 4 inches neck opening..? and also in most of my dresses my neck keeps going on top.. i have to keep adjusting always..
thankyou for this video mam.. its very useful..

Hello Mam, how should we mark the shoulder point if the shoulder measurement is above 15” (half measurement above 7.5”)? What corresponding changes should we make for the arm round line for deeper necklines in such cases ? Thanks in advance
Thanks Savi ji for a very clear explanation... I was waiting for this video... Thanks for listening to your followers...🙏
+Esha Mahay Glad if my video helps you :-)
Hi, I saw kurti drafting where u took 1" back neck depth, I was little confused with this video as I wanted my neck depth as 6" for a shoulder length 15", nw should I tk half of my shoulder to mark the arm hole or should I mark 61/4" as per the measurements u provided in this video? Plz help me out of this dilemma.
Hello savi mam, u r videos are very useful and clear, i subscribed for u r blouse patterns also online and output came very well in the first go. Thanks for the great work.
In this video i have a doubt, if front neck is deep then we shifted 1/2" in the shoulder from the neck line in basic bodice pattern,is that sufficient for all depths of front neck? As specified in other comments reply u said this video is applicable when both the front and back neck are deep. From what depth of front and back necks , the necks are considered deep mam? Please clarify for front and as well as back neck.
hi dear....once again need some clarification, fnd 4 1\2 and bnd 3 ....then also do I have to apply the above theory.....if i have to apply the theory should i reduce shoulder and armhole depth length on both panel (front and back) or it applicable only on back panel?
Very good. I think I got it and understand the armsyce a little more.
I have a little confusion in marking
armhole line that u said take half of armhole round as armline but if suppose armhole round is 18 inch .then how i mark armline mam plz reply me
Hello savi madam, your teaching method is super, very clear explanation, this video I was watching many times, now I understand this theory and yesterday I stitched one Kurti,i have started learning my self, I'm not going to the any classes, one year I was watching so many videos,I don't understands, now I got your channel, thanks a lot, keep uploading, god bless you.

Madam, god bless you
Your online video s are excellent
Professionally deep explained
Than u
Thank you for your kind words. Glad you find this helpful. God bless you too.
hi ma'am...
we r reducing d back shoulderline here, in this case, what about the front shoulder line? do v need to reduce it as that of the back neckline? if not sewing frnt n back neck depth same...in that case, the shoulder lines would be different, then how to align them?
yes, you need to reduce both back and front.
Hi sa vita, I like d way you explain every little details about cutting and sewing, I wud like too knw dat , should d arm round line b shifted even in d case of front neck depth of more den 1 inch, or is dat it's only applied to back neck, can front b kept normal n back b drafted as you ve shown, I mean m a bit confused, plz explain .
+AZRAH AGA Hi, thanks for the compliment...... The back neck deep theory applies only when the front and back neck both are deep. That is when there is no support for the dress at the neck part, hence we need to shift the armround line in [towards the neck]. If for example the back neck is deep but front is not deep then there is support for the dress neckline and this theory would not apply.
Or mam jo shoulder andar ata ja raha hai pr neck width to utni h hai isse shoulder ki broadness km ho jaegi naa bohot agr phle hi teera km h thin person k hisaab se to neck with or shoulder m to jyada gap hoga nai or km krne pr or patla ho jaega
Kya krna hoga fir
Hi savi,
thanks for a neat explanation. May I know when the changes are made in armhole like here, should we make changes in sleeve too
+RM Azam thanks....no changes in sleeves...
Greetings from France ❤️ Congratulations 🏆🏆🏆🥰 First lemme say that you are REALLY BEAUTIFUL and a very sweet smile. You are AMAZING. The explanations are great. I must watch your previous video. @@SavisFashionStudio THANKYOU. You are a very HUMBLE LADY.❤️ When you smile the world smiles with you. A big hug. 👍🌹🥰
hi mam thanks for your valuable suggestion, when I applied your theory only for my own mesurmen that time it's perfect, but when I applied it to others mesurment that time I am facing different - different problems mainly in armhole. can you please tell me the armhole measurements and it's seaming allowance in sleeves for S M XL XXL size Kurtis. I am eagerly waiting for your help.....
thanks a lot for replying, its appreciated. but pls one last question,is t meant for attaching sleeves or is it for sleeveless,if its meant for sleeves wont the sleeve capmove into the shlder makng it impossible to move the arm?or is there another way,dis is the last one,pls
+Alexandra M No worries, you can ask questions:-)...I try to reply to each and every message as soon as I am free. About the question you asked, it is related to neckline depth be it with sleeves or sleeveless. Sleeve cap will not move into the shoulder... pls try :-)
Hi savi
Ya every time I watch your video it really inspires me.awesome work and great approach of yours to help people like us .👍👌🙏
+humaira yasmin Thank you so much. Every time I read such comments, it motivates me :-)
From the actual drafting paper you are explaining how to recorrect front arm hole mam then wat to do with the original darted back arm hole should we make it nearer to front arm hole
When we shift the armround line as per the neckline depth, the shifting is for both front and back armhole.
Thank you for sharing this video
Hello mam if back depth 1 " depth , front depth 11" and is a v neck , am I to do the same changes in the shoulder or no change.
Thank u mam it's clear for me to understand about the armhole down
Thank you so much ma'am, your teaching method is excellent.
Hello mam, for kids also same or not, can you explain please.
Does this apply the same way for the saree blouse too or just kurti? I really like the neat and clear way of explaining the techniques in detail. Thank you and waiting for your response. Also I am interested in online courses. Please update the course details and cost too. Looking forward for your reply.
Can u please tell me what shoulder and armhole i should take for 30 and 32 chest .
savi g I have never seen a well explained video like this
+kiran jit Thank you so much Kiran :-)
i have broad shoulder when I wear my blouse the neck portion of my front is looking like boat. it shows my body bigger. how to show myself slim. please reply mam. many of us have the same problem how to look slimmer in blouses
Thank savi ji, for line of reply
Hi Savitha how do you match shoulders while back is deep like 7 inches. Is there any online uploaded video u explained in that.
Hi savita...
If we reduce the back by more than 6" and we give a deep neck with wide neckline. The neckline falls in front. What can be done about that??
And if we want to keep more than 6" wide neckline and deep back... how can we achieve that??
Your videos are wonderful.I have started sewing just by watching your videos. Please upload blouse stitching videos.
+neha m Congrats and glad to know you started learning this beautiful skill........happy sewing :-)
thank you very much for replying will try it very soon. God bless you
Hi, great video. Does the armhole drop vary according to the chest size when we apply this theory to blouse
It is a little different in saree blouses if both necklines are deep. Same method can be used for high necklines.
Saree Blouse foundation course: www.savisfashionstudio.com/online-classes/online-sewing-classes
thanks ones again for this information
Hi thank you so much for video. Should i follow the same measurement if i need deep neck in frront and close neck on back. I mean back 2" and front 7"
When one of the necklines is high, the garment has support at the shoulder and hence no need to reduce the shoulder.
Hello Savitha, Please advise if the neckline theory applies to top slips also. The neckline of slips are deeper than the neckline of tops sometimes, so can I apply this theory while sewing the slip for such tops. Thanks.
Yes, it does.
so nice of u mam ,u solved all my quaries about back neck and armhole solution thanks a lot
Thanks for the appreciation.
Madam , I can't show my appreciation enough for this detailed and informative tutorial. Thank you so very much ma. Pls, can this theory be applied to a blouse or dress with sleeves since the armhole has been reduced inward? Thanks in anticipation for your response ma
+Taiwi Akinbiola Hi, thanks for taking time to appreciate. Yes you can apply this theory. there will not be any changes in sleeves drafting. - Regards, Savi
Very nice to have the clear explanation
Hey Savi could you please tell that what changes should be done in shoulder while making sleeveless kurti?
Detailed explanation thank you. One question Mam when we reduce the shoulder width as per increasing neck deep will there be no change in neck width.. Little confusion can you clear this.
Hi good afternoon...if the back neck depth is 8 inch how should mark them on arm down line?
HAI SAVI,
Thank u for your excellent videos and replies,i have a doubt,in back neck theory, if keep back neck dept from 4 to 9 inches then should we give ease in chest measurement of .75 inch, which you have showed in body sloper, please help.
You are welcome. Yes, ease needs to be given even if the back neck is deep.
Hi Mam..I have one doubt on this..is there any relation between neck width and shoulder measurement..if i increase shoulder width.. Do I need to detect shoulder measurement..please guide..
Hi superb explanation:-) what about the seam allowance for armhole depth and shoulder?
Hi Mam. I Just Want To Know How To Calculate Chest Line If We Have Only Measurements Of Chest,Bust, Bust Point, Waist, Hip Etc, And No Arm Hole Measurement. Please Answer.
Hello mam your vedio are very nice..it helps me a lot.. and one thing mam wher i find that french curve...m from nepal its not available that type of french curve. .....how its possible to get that french curve
hi savi gud wrk n keep up,well i understand perfectly, but what if u want the neckline both wider and deeper,do i still only make changes by reducing the shoulder line and again does dis change apply to the front as well? plsssss reply
+Alexandra M Thanks....yes even if the neck is wider and deeper, need to reduce shoulder as shown here. it applies when both front and back is deep.
Very useful information ... The way u explain is very helpful and clear .lot of tips abt the neckline I like very much . I got good tips after watching ur video .thk u
+Tamilarasi Manoharan Thanks for the beautiful comment. keep watching and happy sewing :-)
Very nice
Hai ma'am... your videos are exceptionally good..I have never found any tutorials so easy to understand..in the above video of the back arm measures what are the changes for the front arm hole???does the measurements remain the same or do they also change along with the change in back neck depth?
Hi, thanks so much. The changes are applicable for both back and front.
hi thanks for sharing your knowledge. it is very easy to follow. I want to know if the sleeves has to be adjusted when you do deep necklines. thanks
Thank you. Draft the sleeves the same way as learnt but before cutting the pattern, measure the curves and ensure it matches with the armhole curves on the body pattern, if it is less/more, increase/reduce ease and redraw the curves.
