- Here's a recap of all the songs that competed for Azerbaijan in Eurovision Song Contest from 2008 to 2023. Please, enjoy!
Azerbaijan has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 15 times since making its debut in 2008, after İctimai Televiziya (İTV) became an active member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). İTV had broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest in previous years, purchasing broadcasting rights from the EBU. Azerbaijan was the last country in the Caucasus to debut in the contest and the first to win.
Azerbaijan has won the contest once, in 2011, with Ell and Nikki and the song "Running Scared" setting the record for the lowest average score for a winning song under the 12-points voting system, with 5.26 points per country. The country achieved five consecutive top-five results in the contest between 2009 and 2013, finishing third (2009) and fifth (2010) before their 2011 win and fourth (2012) and second (2013) following their win. Azerbaijan has failed to advance from the semi-finals twice, in 2018 and 2023.

2008-2013 our prime times :')
2017 and 2019 also
I totally agree with you. For me 2009 and 2013 is the best
@@azrazimov2997 2017? NO
@@escahmet7487 And me totally agree 👍💯
@@user-zo9li6ql9t I am so happy to hear that ❤️❤️❤️
Mata hari most underrated Eurovision song from Azerbaijan he should have been hot top ten
That's why 2021 was the best year, even very good songs failed to qualify (Croatie)
Agree.
Rise and fall of the empire:
What a beautiful comment 🤗🤗❤❤
So true
Yep
Turkish hatred suppressed them and also once you can't make it to the final, it doesn't go down, your little country maybe never in the top 3
@@gulinnn what?
Dear Azeris, you have already participated in Eurovision 15 times. Isn't it about time you gave us a chance to hear what your language sounds like?
Agreed
They sang a bit in azeri 2021. But I have to hear a song fully in Azeri
@@0008Seconds Yalan Daman Yanan Daman Yaman Daman or something like that; a total of 6 words repeated a few times. LOL
Azerbaijani not azeri
We dont have famous native songs widely known. I think we still need an english songs
AySel is the most beautiful woman ever in Eurovision 😍
Nope the most beautiful is Célia Lawson - Portugal 1997
Agree
Farid Mammadov is still my fav.
We need to send an Azerbaijani song, come on, delegation 👀
It's a must. It's a MANDATORY. There's no other choice. And make it full Azerbaijani
Didn't you already do that this year?
@@in_wino_veritasi think they mean that they should send a song in their own language
@@ronyramdan this year Azerbaijan will send a song fully English. Maybe we will see some Azerbaijani words but it is not imagined it to see fully Azerbaijani
@@khl170 that's not true, a majority of the sing is in Azeri this year (2024)
Greece and Azerbaijan mast make a come back in 2024 🇬🇷❤🇦🇿
🇦🇿❤️🇬🇷
and Ireland......😂
🇦🇿❤🇬🇷
Our first words in Eurovision: For peace we pray ❤🇦🇿
I loved that song. They sing so good
I absolutely love 2019's entry, Chingiz did a great job with a good song.
As for the rest... On a positive note, Azerbaijan often sends very beautiful women/handsome men with good, powerful voices.
Truth by Chingiz is still banging. My favourite song from our brothers. 🇹🇷🇦🇿
I agree, one of my favourite ever Eurovision songs
I would go for Farid due to impressive staging
Mata Hari was one of my favourites for 2021. I think they deserved better than 20th with 65 points.
It shouldn't qualified
Their worst song by far. My second last of 2021.
the best song sent by Azerbaijan, it had to finish at least in top 10
As an Azerbaijani i dont think so, that song had nothing to do with our culture.
I don't care if we qualify, or not. But we should keep sending homemade songs every year, it's more important thing I guess.
Lütfen bu şekilde devam edin. Sonuçlar önemli değil. Isveçten Hollandadan şarkı alma formülü tutmuyor artık belli. 2014'ten beri sadece bir kez ilk 10'a girebildiniz bu yöntemle. Bir de şarkılarınızı kendiniz yapmayı deneyin. 2008'deki şarkıyı siz yapmıştınız ve muazzamdı.
Agreed! Authenticity is key in modern-day Eurovision!
Yes, they should send singers who're writing their own lyrics, instead of sending Melfest rejects, that probably also had 3 or 4 other steps behind them, before ultimately landing in Azerbaijan. Yes, authenticity is key, as someone else has pointed out already. And that's why I don't know, if it would be as great, if singers are singing songs that someone else has written for them, with the only difference being, that these songwriters are from Azerbaijan themselves. No, the artists themselves should have a say in this wnd at least participate in the songwriting process. I'm also open for singers collaborating with renowned writers, when it comes to the lyrics. I hope, this result doesn't discourage them from sending authentic music from artists, who're writing their own stuff.
turan and tural are my favourite entry you've ever sent! they were so charming and I love that they sent something homemade and true to their hearts.
A Z E R B A İ J A N always the BEST music country in the world. İf you don’t believe me you should searching in the youtube. Love you Azerbaijan🇦🇿🔥
Hope to make a big comeback in 2024 🇦🇿❤️
And I really hope the same for my country (The Netherlands)!
And for my country too (Romania) 🇷🇴
@@frenchwithstef They should get rid of the current people at TVR first. They mistreated Roxen and Theodor.
And for my country too... Montenegro 🇲🇪
@@MustiiForTheWin Yes, they are along with Georgia and Latvia the longest participating countries without a final.
TuralTuranX, Dilarə Kazımova xaric hamsı mükəmməl
Mən də elə düşünürəm, amma Dilarənin çox gözəl səsi var, sadəcə mahnısı çox uğursuz olub. Bu arada Dilarə finala keçmişdir, iki yarışmacı keçməmişdir, Aysel və TuralTuranX
DIHAJ is so underrated.... i hope Azerbaijan will win 2024 with a great ethnic song
Yeah next song will be ethnic but not winning song. Cuz our delegation doesn't want Azerbaijan to win again.
@@khl170why💀
@@enantiornithes i don't know what reason is but they genuinely don't want.
After seeing their live performance I was smitten with these handsome lovely boys. Seeing all teh footage of their interactions with everyone in Liverpool made me love them even more.. Brilliantly talented (and hella impressive fashion plates!!), I wish Eurovision were a more receptive environment for this type of song.. 20 years ago it would have been gangbusters popular. I hope I can somehow look up and find more of their music form here in the Western USA.
I wish I was their sister
I love most of Azerbaijan's entries even Start a Fire but I couldn't support this year...
I only love Start A Fire bc it's 22nd -
Why can't Azerbaijan ask Azeri writers to write good songs with an ethnic flavour and Azerbaijani lyrics? Is it so difficult to do so? There's lots of Azeri singers who've graced the ESC stage singing songs that were too easy for the genres they can sing. An ethnic ballad in Azerbaijani with a slightly complex singing style would sound amazing.
We need something magical coming from Azerbaijan. They can pull it off.
We used our national music sometimes. But yes, we need to send an Azerbaijani song
@@ESCBaku Can you give me an example of the most ethnic song you've sent so far? Because most of them were pop songs, right? I'm just a little bit familiar with Turkic music.
@@im.joeyb. In 2008 and 2019 - Samir and Chingiz sang mugham in the bridge parts of their songs. In 2009 Arash used tar. In 2012 Alim Gasimov (back vocalist) sang mugham. And in 2021 the bridge part was our national dance "Yalli".
@@ESCBaku No, I mean the most ethnic overall, haha. But thank you for telling me. I recognised the parts you mentioned, but didn't know what they are being called. :-)
First of all, as far as I know Eurovision is not an ethnic music contest, no country sends ethnic songs to Eurovision, and even if they do they fail miserably. I agree that we should send songs written by our writers, though.. But then again, no matter what Aze sends, it will always be hated and degraded by eurofans...😏
My favorite is Skeleton, Truth, and Always
Mata Hari is a really underrated song. it gives a powerful vibe. also, I want to notice that Azerbaijan's staging is so creative even when they don't get many points
I think this year they just got unlucky. The twins were fine on their own (not a perfect performance but overall decent enough) but semi 1 was very stacked and competitive and a chill song like that was gonna have a hard time. I hope they continue sending in songs from local artists instead of outsourcing from Sweden.
GUYS WE PROUD OF YOU 🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿
My favourites
2009: iconic
2011: the winners and was really good
2013: one of my all-time favourites from them
2018: underrated and should’ve qualified to the finals
2019: it’s a vibe
2022: OMG😱 it’s breathtakingly SO GOOD.
2023: underrated and up my alley with genre of music
What an impressive country overall.
Wins: 1
Top 3 finishes: 3
Top 5 finishes: 5
Top 10 finishes: 7
Left side of the scoreboard: 8
That's more than 50% of their ESC history spending on the left side of the scoreboard.
Qualification rate: 13/15 (87%)
However, their form has visibly dropped. In the modern voting system since 2016, this is how they've fared:
Wins: 0
Top 3 finishes: 0
Top 5 finishes: 0
Top 10 finishes: 1
Left side of the scoreboard: 1
Qualification rate: 5/7 (71%)
Good in terms of qualification, but we're used to better from Azerbaijan. Their form since the turn of the decade is especially poor.
Wins: 0
Top 3 finishes: 0
Top 5 finishes: 0
Top 10 finishes: 0
Left side of the scoreboard: 0
Qualification rate: 2/3 (67%)
They've only participated in this century. I think you mean "decade".
