- On Wednesday morning, Governor Ron DeSantis was on the east coast to formally announce the state legislature passed $1,000 bonuses for every sworn law enforcement officer, EMT, firefighter, and paramedic in the state.
"Some want to defund the police," Governor DeSantis said at the Satellite Beach Police Department. "We're funding the police and then some."

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am 50 years old, born in Tampa Florida, have lived in the area my entire life, and I have never seen a GOVERNOR as completely awesome as Governor DeSantis! Thank you Sir for being a stand-up guy and a model for others who would desire to hold such positions of authority! I guarantee you that while their pride and egos won't let them admit it, other states are watching your leadership and they are watching the results of your leadership! I'm sure there's not a governor in this country that doesn't want to go to sleep at night knowing that the people of his state or her state hold them in such high regard so while that is a lofty desire, Governor DeSantis of Florida is proving that it's not unreachable! I concur. I am a 4th generation Floridian and have lived in Central Florida all my life (over 59 years) and he is the best governor we have had in my lifetime.

Have to say, Florida is the butt of a lot of jokes, but they’ve moved way up on the list of States I would consider living in this last year.
The jokes have never really been warranted in my opinion. FL has a population of 22 million so of course it will make the news more than most states. The "FL man" phrase was created and then people began to pile on by calling out every little negative thing that took place in the state.

Florida is a fiscally well run state, so instead of doing surprise tax increases to meet budget requirements, they sometimes have extra. That's why in state college is very cheap compared to Northern states. It's probably also because of the tourism.
Sure, the price of living can be high, especially in South Florida, where everyone is crammed together, but overall it's an affordable place to live in, especially considering the climate and proximity to the beaches. California is the opposite.
