    Nice video. Well done. The USB, there is a usb that fits into the cig lighter, so, if you dont need the cig lighter, remove it & use the usb ext. Now, for me, I have the same thing as you except I have a 2011 F150. Same pioneer, maestro and harness. All the interface on my radio works, the steering wheel control works as it should, I just dont have sound! I been fighting with this for 3 weeks. I've installed radios before..and your right, it's just PnP. I'm really baffled. At this point it's going to a stereo installer. I hate having to spend that much money on it but, I gave up three weekends !! lol.. I'm done! Unless someone comes up with a strong answer...I'll try again!!!

      No sound, how did you connect the speakers, via clips as in the video or soldering?

  • @thepoet87827
    @thepoet87827 Před rokem

    Thanks - good video and explanations. Question - the ODBII connector snakes down to connect to the factory ODBII connector, cudos to your wife. Is this a permanent connection that replaces the functionality of the factory ODBII for diagnostic use? I am replacing the factory cd/radio in my 2014 F250 Super Duty in order to get a backup camera for easing hooking up to my trailers. The truck is "new to me" in 2023, and daggone it, I want a backup camera [spit]!

    • @DnSAdventures
      @DnSAdventures  Před rokem

      Hey there, you can unplug it if you still need diagnostics run. It is handy though at least with the model I installed on the truck because it actually displays error codes for check engine lights etc. And agreed, backup cameras are super helpful especially in tight areas! - Shane

    Did any of the wires come loose due to those connectors?

    • @DnSAdventures
      @DnSAdventures  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching! Haven't had anything come loose yet and have been over some fairly rough roads. Seemed pretty solid with those connectors, but could always wrap with some electrical tape for a little added security. Have a good one! - Shane

    How do you like the radio so far? Do you recommend this unit?

    • @DnSAdventures
      @DnSAdventures  Před 3 lety +2

      It has gotten the job done and does what we need it to. With that said, it does still have some random bugs that seem to go away after starting up...but it does seem to take a while to start up. It also can lag a bit when shifting in reverse for the backup camera...so response times could be better. Other than that, it definitely beats the stock stereo by far and love being able to use the screen for navigation for longer trips via our phones and google maps. I would recommend it as a decent and cheaper alternative to some of the more expensive units out there.

    I'm about to install one of these in a 2010 F-150. I ordered from Crutchfield as well and ordered the Maestro for all the controls. What does the SYNC USB port do with this stereo? Can it still be used for audio files? Is there a way to hook it up to the back of the USB port on the stereo instead of using the extension cable that comes with it?

    • @DnSAdventures
      @DnSAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      I never got the sync usb input to work with the stereo myself. Ive seen others online basically taking the sync usb port out and replacing it with the extension that goes into the new stereo. I ended up just leaving the sync in there to be able to use as an additional power source and ran the extension through a side port. So unfortunately I am not really an expert and can't give you a great answer, but that is how I handled it.

    • @dbucha4
      @dbucha4 Před 3 lety

      DnSAdventures I got it installed. I can’t get the sync usb to work either. Having trouble with the sync voice commands too. I hooked the wire up to the swi 2 under the dash tray. Maybe I just gotta mess around with it some. Should the factory microphone for Bluetooth calls still work for anything?

    • @DnSAdventures
      @DnSAdventures  Před 3 lety

      I think you may have to use the external mic that came with the stereo. I never got voice commands working either. Thought my phone mic would pick it up, but it must switch over to the stereo's instead.

  • @WaIIyMaven

    Were you not able to connect the USB to the existing Ford SYNC USB connector?

    • @DnSAdventures
      @DnSAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      With the model that I purchased, you have to use the USB in the back of the stereo itself to be able to use the functionality. One of the trade offs of a cheaper wired unit rather than completely wireless setup. You could however reroute that wire to where the Ford Sync is currently, but I didn't personally want to accidentally screw that up somehow. I've seen some people remove the usb dock from within the Ford Sync connection...but odds are I would probably scratch it all up haha. I also want to clarify that I don't do this for a living and just tried to save money by doing it myself whether correctly or incorrectly. :)

    What does plugging into the OBDII port accomplish and does it stay plugged in all the time or?

    • @DnSAdventures
      @DnSAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      It isn't as effective as a scanner as far as diagnosing issues, but it did give me the error code when I had something going wrong on my F350. It also can give you information such as tire pressure etc on your screen if your vehicle is compatible with that feature. Just some extra perks, but nothing I would be concerned about too much. - Shane

    • @rdatkins1
      @rdatkins1 Před 3 lety

      @@DnSAdventures So you could not hook it up and it wouldn't hurt anything?

    • @DnSAdventures
      @DnSAdventures  Před 3 lety

      @@rdatkins1 That is my understanding. There are other connections I just left hanging because they weren't applicable to the F350 or I just didn't need to use them.

    Where did you end up putting the USB cable..?

    • @DnSAdventures
      @DnSAdventures  Před 3 lety

      There was an unused plastic port underneath the cigarette lighter on the driver side...on my super duty at least. So just drilled a small hole through the top of the plastic and fed the wire through.

    Did you have to buy a GPS antenna for the head unit?

    • @DnSAdventures
      @DnSAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      This just uses either an android phone or iphone to drive the gps, there isn't anything prebuilt in. This particular model requires you to connect to your phone via usb cable, but they do make a slightly more expensive version that can connect wirelessly.
