Hello Dan plz i need your help i have a jaguar 2007 fault message presented on the cluster convertible not latched what is the problem?? Plz help
Dan is the man! Even when the world experiences hard times and I'm stuck in my hotel in Thailand watching Diagnose Dan. He always fixes it again!
At least you had something to watch for 14 minutes. Stay safe ♥️
i wish i was stuck in thailand....believe me mate...could be worse... =)
@@Diagnosedan 🙂🙂🙂
Thanks Dan! This really helped us fix the right rear microswitch on '09 Z4. We did all your steps to diagnose. We found the wire break a foot down the microswitch cable. Jumping the R/L switch signals together is a great idea and allowed us to open the roof to work on the switch wiring. Needle probes help the jump and for depinning. Lots of learning here!
Great!
Dan I have to say you have one of the cleanest shops ever seen, very impressive!! Keep up the AWESOME videos!
Not as clean as i would like it to be but thanks😉
I was just thinking it would be nice to have a shop tour. Nice video 👍👍
When I jack up my Z4 E89,roof wont open.Is that got to do when car is on jack??
Sign of pride in his work. Show a mechanic in control of business.
@@Diagnosedan do you have OCD?
I learn so much from your channel. I wish my dealership would give me this level of training. Dan you killed it like always. Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much 😀
Thanks for making these videos. You're incredible, I apply the strategies and tips I learn from you to my job as a mechanic every day. And, the effort you put in to make these more than your typical "just explain it" type videos is outstanding. I appreciate the white boards, the demos, the talking apart modules just to show us how it all works. I think an understanding down to the fundamentals of what's happening is missed in most of the auto tech industry, at least in the states
Thanks for the amazing comment its appriciated!
Well done again, Dan. Probably the easiest diag and repair on a BMW ever.
I changed a lightbulb today😛
Great diagnostic skill- and a great repair to that convertible roof! Thanks Dan for educating us.
Thanks David!
Great fix, so simple when diagnosed properly. Also, it's great to see someone soldering properly, so few do on CZcams.
Solder works great on P.C.B...and that’s about it
Diagnose Dan is one of the TOP CZcams channels, bar none!! A great diagnostic technician and a super-likable guy! Stay healthy, Dan!
Stay Safe and thanks for the comment ♥️
Thank you very much for your sincere information.
Thanks to your video, the roof of my beloved car Z4 has been restored.
Actually, I bought my Z4 with the intention of fixing the broken roof on my own, but the solution was your video.
Thank you!
Thank you very much indeed.
what obd scanner did you use to release your trunk? I am having the same issue
As always Dan, a logical step by step professional approach. No guessing just diagnosing. Quality work.
Thanks David😁
Thanks Dan, because of you i found the issue to why my top isnt working. Similar to your issue, my wire was broken but on the microswitch not the main cable. However you pretty much gave me an insight how to proceed to work on the problem!. Wish you were in the States side, i would love for you to work on my z4.
2 videos with Dan in one week. Life is good! Thanks Dan for another great video.
😂😂 Doesn't happen often😉
Dan, You’re the best car doctor out there. Love seeing your work.❤️🍷👌
Thanks Dave!
Of course once again, please notice the cleaniness of the cars professor Dan has coming to his shop. That's what you get when you're a master of your trade. You're the man professor! 👍👍👍
Thanks Nick!
Thank you 🙏. I had work on an E93 convertible this weekend that had an issue with the top coming completely down, Luckily after an investigation I was blessed with a simple fix. The person who owned the car packed the side of the boot with a large thick stack of napkins from a Christmas party. Compressing them was about 6-7 inches thick. I took them out of the boot and saw that it was a no luggage area. Woohoo fixed ! Thank you Dan for the trouble shooting video!!
Great work💪💪
good job it wasn't toilet rolls, or you would have 'shite' to deal with 🙂
I enjoy the "find the REAL issue" of Dans videos. After all the best tool for Diagnosis is the Human BRAIN. Thank you Dan for your great "Make me think" Videos
Great explanation and attention to the details! Thank you very much from the owner of Z4 with a faulty roof also :D
Can I be your friend!!! 🤣 I’m a technician of 17 years almost 18 and still learning a lot!!!! You taught me so much already Dan!
Fantastic. I don't have any of the equipment to fix my issue, but at least I have the intellectual equipment so I can talk the mechanic's language. Thanks Dan.
Thanks Dan. This makes me confident and want to cry at the same time with diagnosing and repairing my e36 covertible top. I just need a cheap scan tool that includes the CVM module on my year.
Well done Dan.
Excellent job! Sort of mechanic that you could trust.
Great job, Dan. Very informative both in how you diagnosed the issue and steps to fix it. Please keep the videos coming.
No problem Frank
I don’t know why it took me so long to find your channel. I’m very impressed with your diagnosis and video editing too. Well done!
Dan you're a genius I'm totally amazed by your problem solving
I'm amazed myself😂 I know nothing about cars i'm a Carpenter 😂😂
Finally wait is end.i love your troubleshooting procedure.
Specially your tools and energetic brain DAN.😍😍
😁😁
Thank you Dan. Always having a good time learning. You are the best.
Nice video. I had a friend (long gone now) that I helped restore several Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliners some years ago. The cars have a system of large roof switches much like this BMW you worked on. The sensor switches are expected to carry a good amount of current to energize Ford type starter solenoids that would provide power to the gearmotors for the roof lifting mechanism. I used the same by-pass method to get the top open to find problems with the sensor switches. No computers, all was done with switch logic, a long series circuit from one switch to the next. Each switch would add more resistance to the circuit and sometimes would cause the solenoid not to pull in. Much fun working with old parts made back in the 1950s. Keep safe Dan.
Those cars are nuts an entire solid roof just stores in the trunk.
I guess you didn't scan for codes😂😂
@@Diagnosedan haha, codes what would be that you speak of?
Great diagnostic work and a nice repair of the wiring. Very professional.
German over engineering, a classic! It was a simple repair that hadn't been possible without that fancy scanner.
And it's very impressive the knowledge that lives in that brain.... mad respect👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for watching 😀
More than wonderful, you work with sincerity and love for your work
This video helps me a lot. I have a BMW Z4 ( Z89 ) also with a roof problem, code A690. So I try to learn with mij scanner ( BM700 ) to find the right wires and pins and I think I have them lol . Thanks Dan and keep up the good work. Greetings from the Netherlands. ))))
12:32 you missed the support for the cable tie, they use those supports so the wire itself isn't stresses by the tie, attention to detail makes for reliable repairs.
Ha i missed that! Thanks!
No ones perfect, I bet this guy missed couple himself only reason he knows lol
@@Diagnosedan 😁
@@jamessvetlovics4948 This is why we like Dan he takes it in the spirit it was meant, the comment section is for people like me and participation is all part of the fun.
@@Diagnosedan Did you go back and repair it correctly?
I like what you post, even if I don't understand English I still understand what you're doing 50% you're the best best..
Diagnose Dan fixed it again! I said it myself before washing the video that it will be educating. Thanks Dan to share the video, at least someone like me that is still learning gat to grab one or 2 knowledge at of the video.
😁😁
Nice diagnosis! I freaking love the original schematics from BMW. So minimalistic but clear in contrary to some other brands and services offering schematics. It was also a nice touch that you confirmed your diagnosis and got it opened by bridging the left microswitch signal to the right o the module. I use similar techniques for diagnosing diversity antenna's on e61's and e91's, small (fused) wire between the positive battery terminal in the trunk and the first pin of the diversity antenna. if it responds to the key it's a wire break and if it does not it's the antenna, or possibly the CAS module not processing or somehow receiving the signal but i've never seen that happen before. anyway back to the roof, if someone was feeling less confident and adventurous they could just enable service mode through the service functions in ista or bidirectional control from a decent scan tool. then the roof will operate again without accounting for it's safety switches allowing you to open the trunk and get to the switch without unpinning wires ;)
That's no fun😉
Ista actually have an emergency open thru service function with a lot off warnings before The actuation take place, but I Never get it to work with Z4. My ista is a clone with K+DCAN cable so maybe it only works with Icom. Thank you Dan for the upload, and The other guy for the informative comment!
Stuck in my house in Palmyra Virginia watching Diagnose Dan Fix it again, Good Dx and repair
At least you had something to watch for 14 minutes 😉
Amazing video! Loved it! My '07 e93 335i has a very similar if not the exact same roof. I came here to learn how to remove the headliner but this was also great to see. Too many annoying rattles on the inside on mine. Lol
DiagnoseDan I hope you and your family are safe and well during all this virus chaos. You are an incredibly intelligent tech and really now your stuff. It's a shame that you don't have a million followers. Just know that you are one of the best on CZcams. Keep making videos. Thank You and stay safe.
Convertible hardtops are so cool...when they work! Nice job, Dan!
And when they don't work it can become expensive! Not in this case though.
This is so cool!!! I don't own this car, or any of the ones I've seen so far. However, I've learned so much just by watching your videos! So thank you very much! And keep up the awesome work!
Thank you. Your video helped me fix my car. Had the exact same problem with same wire.
what scanner did you use to open the trunk?
Great work, Dan. You're the man.
😁😁
Dan, i wish i could bring my wife's Audi to you for some tlc. The fix you gave us about the abs earth worked perfectly. You saved me from spending 35 thousand rand at the dealership. That is about 2000 thousand dollars. Now the left front window stops working when the temp goes above 29 degrees Celsius. Maybe you could tell us where the earth is situated for the electric windows on a 2002 Audi A4 3.0 quattro Thanks from a grateful subscriber in South Africa.
Hi Dan. Another great video. Thanks a bunch from this shade tree mechanic in Indiana.
😂Thanks Douglas
Nice to see your videos again.
I work with cars everyday for living and I have got lot of tips from you! So keep it up!
Greetings from Finland
Great! Thank you very much
Excellent the more we know about how to fix these roofs the better. And a good demonstration of using a logical approach to fault diagnosis.
Thanks!
Well since this video i have had repair break in the right arm, now the left has broken. I think the glue on the tape has made the wire insulation brittle. My first wires on the right arms, two of them, one to each switch broke on a straight section, not on the bend where you expect.
Wasn't the left, it was on the right. Wire broken under roof panel. So just fitted a bypass pair back to the limit switch. All working now.
You are creative my friend, I am an auto electrician and encouraged everyone to watch your wonderful and useful channel
Thanks😁👍
That is some decent soldering :-D It's the first time I see a car guy doing a nice job of it. Most have some worn out tips, black from oxidation, and no wonder they have trouble soldering. Cleanliness, people! And also properly maintained tips.
btw, your torch is way to powerful for heat srink. just use a lighter without the turbojets, a more mellow flame will do a better job.
Well done Dan great work, Mechanic on wheeler dealers programme reckons you should not twist the wires together when soldering but you sure made it work !
Thanks for watching 😀
Your diagnosis is always great Dan thanks for sharing your knowledge
My pleasure 😀
DiagnoseDan Fixed It Again👍
Without requiring any parts😉
Thanks for sharing Bro👍
My pleasure 😀
Excellent video Dan. I like the way you bridged the 2 pins to supply voltage to where it was missing in order to open the roof. Very clever.😉🤝🤘
Thanks! 👍
Good to see you back ! Hope everything it is alright ,with you and your family .
We are allright, Stay safe ♥️
When you got the roof open and started peeling that wire loom tape off, I was reminded of the failures on the E39 trunk wire loom.
Myself and so many owners of that model have had to do repairs to that loom due to cracked and broken wires. I had to solder and shrink wrap 5 of those wires at one time.
1 brown was broken like in this video and 4 others that needed to be repaired as a preventative as they were gonna break in the future.
In my case, the trunk release button on the key fob and trunk release button inside the car were not working, manually opening the trunk with the key was the only option.
Peeling back the rubber gator that protects the wires under the trunk lid without cutting it was tricky, but I was successful and the repairs have held up for 8 years.
I enjoy your videos, I like the BMW ones in particular, Thanks.
This is exactly the same what I have experienced and I know these issues have been since E34 and probably is still relevant for the newest models of 5 series. BMW just cannot learn from their mistakes or do this on purpose to increase servicing costs.
@@dkostasx Agree on all and learning how to fix these (electrical) and any other issues is a must for me as a long time owner of my 2000 528i.
BTW, are you a member of any of the 2 most popular BMW boards..?
Thanks, i pulled real hard on the other wires and they are still fine, and hey i still need to make money next spring😉
Two videos in two days... Your spoiling us...good work dan
Don't get used to it😉
Always looking forward to your videos, you are a very skilled engineer and teacher. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Peter
Great video! A good tip is to use shrink tube with glue inside. The glue will melt by the heat of the heat gun and when it seeps out of the ends you know you've got a 100% waterproof repair.
Dan, if you want to get rid of that high mic input volume at the start of every recording then turn off auto level of mic input on the camera, set it to manual and adjust level. Since you got your mic attached to your shirt all the time the level don’t need to be adjusted automatically. Anyway, you are awesome. You make it look so easy to diagnose and you explain very good. You are the best! ❤️
Thanks for the advise!
You make it look easy! Great vid! Diagnose Dan did fixed it again!👍👍👍
This one was easy😉
You are the rock star of technical videos!!
Wow thanks 😀
Nice job diagnose Dan!

Hi Dan,lovely clear explanation as always, just shows that even with sophisticated electronics it's usually the simple things that fail first, thanks oh and take car getting in customers cars at this time

0:25 “Let’s diagnose this . . . together”
Of course I’ll help you Dan, but could you please keep you distance of at least 1.5m?
For anyone reading this comment in the future, in 2020 the earth was hit by a pandemic of lambada. If people were closer than 1.5m, they started dancing wildly. Whole groups died of sexy exhaustion.
Go sit further away from the screen😁

Thank you. You have helped me to fix almost the same issue.
Good video, reminds me of the astra twintop roofs i used to work on 👍
Wow, quite impressive... as a car owner, not a mechanic, I had no idea the system was that complex. I need to bring my car in because the top isn't working with similar symptoms, but at least now I have some idea of what I'm talking about.
Oh man i have never seen such brilliant explanation before thanks alot
Great fix Dan. I know all about roof switches because I own an e36 325i vert for 17 years. Hahaha. Stay safe and Dutch regards, Nico
