- HAD A BLAST. We had 6 people on the boat 18'. Two coolers stocked and this was our 1st trip 2008. We stayed at the River Street Inn. 310 miles round trip. We'll be back next year. Updated 2013. I'll try to answer some of the questions I've been asked. The hotel of choice is now the Hyatt on River Street. If you need any information on the trip please message me. There are two trips per year Fathers Day weekend and mid August. We use a private boat ramp in Waynesboro Ga. The trip takes 5 hours non stop both ways but we make it fun on the way down with about 3 stops for breaks making it about 8 hours. I use about 32 gallons gas one way just depends on the size of the boat and the number of people on board. We use the Savannah Bend Marina in Thunderbolt. It's 125 miles to River Street. 155 miles to the marina.
Just moved here couple of years ago, this would be an awesome way to go to Savannah! Thanks for posting this...
same, im south of augusta but the rivers only about 45 minutes from me. seem s like a great overnighter and return trip. glad i found this video. inspiration.
neat content Russell Holmes. I smashed that thumbs up on your video. Maintain up the outstanding work.
I'd rather listen to the sounds of the water and the engine than that music.
@southerncrew, it is more 2024. I’ve been wanting to do this ride for a couple of years now. Would love to join in on the august ride. Are jetskis allowed? 😊
@srileo We're not going on the August ride this year. Jet skis can make it you just have to have a boat bring extra gas for you. We will go on the June trip again next year
@@southern_crew Thanks for the reply! Amazing how a 15 year old thread can be revived! Is it just that you are not going in August or the event itself is not happening? I might do this ride in sections with another jetski. Is there anyone you recommend i get in touch with who knows this river and can offer advise on water levels, dangers etc? Or a way to contact you please?
I ain’t gonna lie, I’ve always wanted to do this
There are two trips a year. One in June and one in August. It's a blast!
@@southern_crew who do I reach out to information
Are y'all still doing this?
Very cool!
It was fun. We are going again this year in June
A big group of people do this twice a year, don't leave from Augusta but the Hargroves by Plant Vogtle...its a fun trip if you don't want to do it alone they always go fathers day weekend and the other trip is in August
probably 10'. Depends on the tide we have only had to lower the Bimini top one time but mostly have had the top up with no problem.
We actually put in below Augusta in Waynesboro GA
Hi Russell, we are looking at taking this trip however were thinking of putting in south of the locks in Augusta. If you plan on the trip this year, When do y'all plan on taking this trip this year (dates) and what time are y'all leaving from waynesboro?
You guys look you all are having the time of your lives. What is the name of this song and is the group Stone temple Pilots?
@MultiBaldEagle We launched a few miles upriver from Vogtle. Private ramp
My wife wondered how fast you were traveling... I told her you probably were going 200 mpd ;-)
@bwhtr06 Actually launched from Waynesboro GA. Two trips this year. One in June and one in August. June trip has about 100 boats going
@rah0751 .....You launched where? Plant Vogtle Ramp maybe? I didn't think they still operated the locks up at the Airport.
@MultiBaldEagle Yes
There is no place to get fuel between Augusta and Savannah so you will have to bring fuel with you. We have seen pontoon boats make the trip they just can't keep up with the group. We average about 35 mph to make the trip shorter. Please let me know if I can help you further
Stop at Stokes bluff and walk few hundred feet to fuel up
Did you see any divers on the way? Is there a website to check the river level? Thanks
We haven't seen any divers on the way. The website to check the water level is usgs.gov
what was the lowest bridge you when under. Looks like an awsome trip.
Non stop is 5 hours at about 30 mph but we do make plenty of stops on the way down. Probably about 8 hours with a few stops on the way down
Are you still doing trips 2 times a year? Did you go in 2018? Any updates since 2008?
Getting ready to make a trip in April if anyone is interested in a buddy boat. Riding in a 14' Jon.
The return trip is quicker about 6 hours because we are always in a hurry to get home. We have an 18' v-hull and use about 32 gallons one way.
Anyone making this Augusta to Savannah run this year, 2019 ?
I am interested but have question about depth and boat heights. Running a 22 foot v hull run about and 25 ft center console with hard top and rod holders. The center console is about 8 1/2 ' above water. Would that be a problem with any bridges and should we have a chart plotter with current depth ventures aboard ?
Thanks
Yes me and my boys are
Great. Will be my first trip so I was hoping to meet up with someone going. I'm looking to launch Friday morning the 14th from little hell or Johnson landing.
I would love to make this run, do you have any contact info for the organizers for 2016?
actually 25-30 mph
@sc6chuck9 August 12-14 2011. We will not be going on that one :( We did go on the June trip
did u come from agusta to there bc thats like what a 30 min trip
How much fuel did you use?
@sc6chuck9 Next trip is in June then August
Could yo!u take an offshore boat from Augusta to Savannah? Any bridge heights of concern?
We had a couple go on the last trip. There are 2 bridges as you get to Savannah that are low. I'm not sure how they did it because we could touch the bridge as we went under. It was high tide though
what about the return trip up river? how long did it take?
Planning the same trip. Where did you guys launch from?
any sand bars to watch out for a boat with a outboard taking this trip?
Yes
Many sandbars. Keep an eye out and stay on the outside on every turn.
+Russell Holmes sounds good..was gonna take bass boat next weekend and do the trip.just trying to make sure everything is safe
Do you guys have a 2014 trip planed yet?
The trip is always father's day weekend so this years trip will be June 13-15 2014
I am in Savannah was thinking of taking the trip up river and then back. is there anything in augusta that would make this trip worth doing?
Where do you leave the boat overnight? I’m thinking on making this trip in a few weeks. Thanks
We store it at Thunderbolt Marine
Is there any place close to the river to get fuel? Would love to go but worried about having enough fuel. 28ft pontoon that is not very fuel efficient.
how can I get info on these trips. We are thinking of making a trip down savannah river but would rather not make the trip alone.
Can you contact us. Where is the boat ramp and what time does everyone meet up?
How long is it to travel from Augusta to Savannah on the Savannah River?
The trip takes 5 hours non stop but we will make about three stops among the way. About 7 hours total from Waynesboro GA to River Street in Savannah.
Where did you put in at Augusta?
I have always wanted to make this trip. How much is it per person?
It depends on how many nights you want to stay in Savannah. We leave on Friday and come back on Sunday. Figure in 2 nights hotel, food and gas for the boat about $1000
Are people still making this trip? I’d like to give it a go
Not sure. We haven't made the trip in a couple years
accidentally listening to Creed is one thing. .....choosing it as background music though?
@rah0751 Love the vid. Planning the same trip. Where did you guys launch from?
Are there marinas??? I see ppl hauling fuel. I wanna take a few seadoos on this trip
There are no marinas between Augusta and Savannah. I have seen jet skis do the trip with another boat carrying the gas.
How do I go about private messaging off CZcams regarding info about the trip?
Bill, try clicking on my name. It goes to my home page. Then find the mailbox
Are their any party spots on that river close to waynesboro
Not that I know of. Plenty of houses along the river there.
What bout clarks hill lake.
'The trip takes 5 hours non stop both ways but we make it fun on the way down with about 3 stops for breaks making it about 8 hours. I use about 32 gallons gas one way just depends on the size of the boat and the number of people on board.'......
The trip this year is June 14-16 2013. Let me know if you are interested. There are plenty of boats that go so you would not be alone. I would recommend getting to the boat ramp and waiting on someone to follow.
Is this the group you went with Keith?
Not sure. Keith did not go I this one
I told Keith about this video. Left a comment if he watched it.
Please message me for info. We are leaving this Friday June 14

@sc6chuck9 June 17-19 2011 Fathers Day weekend
