I think a lot of people forget that Quinn didn’t give Beth up because she didn’t want her but because she couldn’t have her. She had absolutely no support system and from the moment she conceived Beth, she was thinking about the best possible option for her, which is what led to her choosing adoption. Though she was very much wrong in saying that Shelby isn’t Beth’s mom, you have to understand that she’s speaking from the perspective of a mom who gave birth to a child she loves and wanted the best for her, not a mom who choose adoption for convenience (because she truly considered keeping Beth until she realized she would be alone, as she couldn’t rely on Finn, Puck, or her parents)

Quinn didn't just give up Beth for Beth, she mostly gave her up for herself. All that really mattered to Quinn was getting back her social status. There's nothing wrong with admitting she was selfish because she did do the right thing by giving her up. She just can't pick and choose when she wants to claim Beth and be in her life.

    • @ladyblubel
      @ladyblubel Před 4 lety +45

A'Mariah Lovelace Quinn definitely didn’t entirely give up Beth for herself. The whole point of her lying to Finn was so Beth could have a good father in her life and be secured. There’s multiple instances where Quinn considered Beth’s future in the storyline (tho I won’t deny that Quinn is definitely a selfish person)

@@ladyblubel I said mostly. And still she was always inconsistent. Even while telling Finn the baby was his she was going to give the baby to Terry, then when it was out that Puck was the father she wanted to keep her. Then give her up again. Her indecisiveness would not have been fair to the baby. You can't just choose when you want to be a mom. You're either in or out. And then how she went about trying to get her back was horrible and proof that she was not ready to raise a child.

Man, this is heartbreaking. I know people have differing opinions about who Beth's mom is. Personally, I kinda think both of them are. I'm basing this off of how they feel about her. Quinn loves Beth with all her heart. Throughout the first season, she struggled with her decision. At first, she thought she and Finn could raise the baby together. And she even wanted to raise her with Puck since he was the father. But Puck showed how, despite how much he may want to be a good father, he wasn't mature enough, and neither was she. She wanted to be with Puck in a relationship, not having him run around with girls leaving her to do most of the work. That was the impression she got of how it would go at the time. So she went with secretly having Will adopt her because she thought he'd make a good father. Then Will's marriage blows up and her parents disown her for being pregnant. She realizes she doesn't have the support she would need to be a good mother. Puck struggled between wanting to be with his child and wanting to be free, something Quinn saw that made her feel their raising Beth wouldn't work out. So she chose adoption. She still wanted Beth, but she knew that without a strong support system in place, she wouldn't be able to raise Beth on her own. She still wasn't ready for the real world. She was living at her friend's houses, but she didn't have a permanent place to raise Beth. She still wanted Beth. It's something she struggled with throughout season 2 as well. And her heartbreak over not being able to be Beth's full-time mom combined with her breakup with Finn made her have an identity crisis. She still felt like Beth's mom. However, Shelby is her mom, too. Shelby has been there everyday for her. Just like Quinn chose adoption for the best interests of her child, Shelby chose a job closer to home that wouldn't keep her away from Beth. They BOTH chose Beth. If Quinn had been able to, I believe she would have kept Beth. So in my opinion, they're both Beth's mothers, in different ways. They both love her like a mom.

Late reaction but this is so true! We should also take into consideration that she was a teen when she had Beth and without her parents' support and even Puck's, she felt hopeless. The probable reason why she's acting like that is because she's lost. She doesn't have her child and is seeking for love and admiration from other places

    • @aaronbaumbach2637
      @aaronbaumbach2637 Před 4 lety +6

It's heartbreaking alright. It's painful to lose a baby to someone else especially when Puck didn't show signs of taking care of his daughter when he goes around with other woman and fighting with his best friend, he may talk about having responsibility for a child but does he have a responsibility for Beth? Quinn lied about who was the father because she didn't want to raise Beth with Puck. She thought that Finn was the father because she felt safe with him. I don't think Puck had the right to lecture Finn when he's not doing anything to help Quinn either. I know what Quinn did was wrong but she was scared and unprepared for a child. a good father would step up and be there for his daughter and not going out with other woman.

Kayla Gariepy super late but this is so true. People are hating on Quinn, saying she made this choice. But in an way, she didn’t. The choice was pushed on her because she was a student... she was just a teen who wasn’t ready for adulthood. A lot of factors affected her decision. Just because she gave her up, doesn’t mean she doesn’t love Beth. It also shouldn’t make her less of her mother.
Like take Rachel’s mother. Even though she isn’t in her life, Rachel considers her her mother and the two still have a somewhat close relationship.
Quinn was wrong here... but she was blinded by heartbreak... She gave birth to her... and will always love her. She did give birth to her after all...

It's annoying me all these comments saying Quinn is Beths mom like no she isn't. Just because you give birth to someone doesn't make you a mother. A mother is someone who looks after you, raises you, cares for you and loves you unconditionally. Quinn gave up the right to call herself Beths mom the minute she signed this adoption papers. Shelby is and will always be Beths mom. I know for a fact as someone who is adopted that my family who adopted me are my mom and dad not Chloe ( my birth mom ) who I see.

She gave me up for her own selfishness and unwillingness to change and adapt, yet this didn't stop her from having another kid. When i was a child all i wanted was to have some type of relationship with her the way she did my younger brother but she never did and now that I've realised I dont need her approval or her in my life she suddenly wants that. Now I go through life receiving messages from her and my half brother about how I'm the one who destroyed are family because I don't want anything to do with her.
Family is who loves you. Cares for you. Helps your grow and develope as a human being. Having your back. My ADOPTED family.
So to all the people who have children the minute you decide you don't want them because their an inconvenience to your life you no longer get to claim them as your. Your not their mum so don't claim to be.

Shelby is Beth’s mother, period. Shelby takes responsibility, takes care of Beth, clothes her, feeds her, and loves her unconditionally. I’m not saying that Quinn doesn’t love Beth, and I understand that she carried Beth 9 months, but Quinn was wrong. She didn’t give a damn about Beth during season two, or anytime after season three. Quinn was really irrational, and erratic during season three, and she let her emotions get the best of her.

Do you really think it's okay for Shelby to lecture Quinn about anything when she's no different. Don't you dare tell me that Shelby is Beth's mom. I agree with you so much! Quinn is actually one of my favorite characters, but she was the one who was in the wrong here. Shelby has been giving Beth love and affection and providing for her. That’s what a parent does.
Quinn was selfish for trying to get Beth back cause the only reason she wanted Beth back was so she’d had something to make her feel good about herself. She even told Puck that Beth is her perfect “thing” and she can’t screw it up. Notice how once she got better this season, she lost all interest in Beth? That’s cause she didn’t actually want a child (at least not at the time). She was just depressed and feeling like she wasn’t worth anything. So she wanted Beth to make her feel better about her situation. If you’ve watched the entire show, you know Quinn has always done this. In season 1, it was her popularity. In season 2, it was her boyfriends. And this season, it was Beth. She finally realized she didn’t need any of those things to be worth something so in the end, I’m glad she wasn’t Beth’s mom.

Anyone else notice how she didn’t want to be bothered with Beth in the second half of this season? Or any season after this? It’s cause she didn’t actually want a baby. She was just in a terrible headspace and so depressed. She felt like she was worthless and in the past, Quinn’s always looked to other people to validate her. In s1, it was her popularity (so her peers). In s2, it was her boyfriends. And in this season, it was Beth. The whole point of her character development though is that she didn’t need any of those things to be worth something. So I’m glad she didn’t get Beth back. It helped her realize her true worth.
On another note, I don’t think Shelby or Puck should’ve pushed Quinn to go see Beth. They should’ve pushed her to go to therapy instead. Like Quinn was so depressed here and everyone was like “Come see Beth” or “Come back to glee club” and all of her problems are gonna magically disappear? Yeah I don’t think so.

She is not her mother!!! My “mother” abandoned me when I was 1 and tried to get custody of me at age 13 and “parent me” she failed miserably because she was too much of a drunk to what she was supposed to. I’ve been in foster care for 16 years now. I don’t have a mother and I’ve known that from day 1. That little girl knows who her mom is and it sure as hell isn’t Quinn.

I always wished that Quinn and Puck had kept the baby. I felt like it would have been great to show the struggles of trying to be teen parents, especially teen parents that were active in extra curricular activities. Honestly would have been great character development for both Puck and Quinn. Plus it would have been cool to have a "Glee baby" that would go to the competitions and have to go to rehearsal sometimes cause childcare is expensive. I would have preferred that storyline then Quinn thinking that she's still Beth's mother. Just cause you pushed the baby out doesn't mean anything.

In my opinion, the word mother is the woman who gave birth to the child and the word Mom (or Mama, Mommy, Mum) is established after there is a special bond between the mother and child.
That's something that Quinn and Beth don't have. Quinn is her mother, but she is not her mom.
Shelby has already a bond with Beth, therefore Beth will know her as Mom or Mommy etc. because they have a special connection.
    Just, my opinion.

I was a adopted at a very young age. And I can say that she is not my mum. If she was she would not have kept fallen pregnant and given them up for adoption when she knew she couldn't look after them. I have always asked myself since I was a very young girl does she love me, does she remember my birthday, does she ever think about me. But now that I am a single mum all I do now is try and give my daughter the love that my biological mother never gave me. I have on some occasions thought about finding her so that she could meet her lovely granddaughter but then I come to my sense's and say no she doesn't deserve to know her my mum( adopted mum) is her nana and that's all she needs to know and when she gets older I will tell her how I was sported and if she ever wants to meet her then it will be up to her but until then just because you gave birth to baby doesn't been that your her mum. You lose that right when you give them up and get someone else to look after them

Everyone in this comment section needs to realize that who Beth’s ‘real mom’ is, will be who she sees as that when she is old enough to understand. Regardless of biology and legality, it’s the child’s life in questions here. Biologically Quinn is her mother. Legally Shelby is. Who Beth will call her mother when she grows up to understand what it really means will be her choice. Quinn and Shelby’s feelings won’t matter at that point. But Quinn, regardless of the circumstances, signed Beth away to Shelby. Legally she has no rights over Beth and at this point Shelby has a right to keep her away from Beth who she is raising since day 1. If Beth later wants to meet her biological parents when she is older, the right thing to do would be for Shelby to allow her. In my opinion, both Quinn and Shelby have flaws but love Beth as mothers. But Shelby is the one fulfilling the role as Beth’s mother, and Quinn can’t deny that. Children are not toys to be tossed around and claimed. Every situation is different. My mom was raised by her grandmother, because her birth mother died and her stepmother and father didn’t care about her. She sees her bio mother as her mom even if she barely knew or remembers her. But she credits her grandmother for raising her and being her ‘parent’. That’s what SHE believes and she has a right to make that decision. Same will be for Beth. It’s her life and her choice that matters.

Shelby is such a hypocrite, I actually hate her character. My blood boils when she says “I missed that chance with Rachel” because she had an opportunity to be a part of Rachel’s life, but she turned her down, claiming she missed out on too much. It is NEVER late to be a part of your child’s life, if they are willing to give it a chance, which Rachel WAS willing to do. It sucks because Shelby got what she always wanted with Beth. Shelby gets to have the daughter she always wanted, but Rachel never got the mom she always dreamed of. Shelby’s not a good mother because even though she’s there for Beth, she isn’t there for her other daughter, Rachel, and she needs her, a real mother would be able to sense that.
And sidenote, I think the reason why quinn was reluctant isn’t because she didn’t want to be a part of beth’s life, she wants that, she WANTED to keep her. But I think she realizes she’ll never be Beth’s mom, as much as she wants to, and that really stings. She probably really regrets giving up her daughter and struggles with that. The issue with glee is that they never focus on character development, storyline, plot, or anything, they always just forget about it.

Elizabeth Melissa it wasn’t her baby anymore the moment she signed the adoption papers. she gave up her rights to be a mother.

  • @rachelberrythegleequeen.3221

Quinn fans will hate me but I really don’t give a flying flip, you can’t call yourself a mother just because you give birth, Shelby is far better for Beth, yes she messed up with Rachel but she gets that and wants to do right by Beth which is more then Quinn does.

People are focusing on the storyline and the you’re not her mom line but dianna played this story so well. Look at her eyes. As soon as Shelby’s said she didn’t want to miss on Beth’s life Quinn’s eyes became so sad because she knew she was missing out on Beth’s life and then Shelby listed every milestone out and it was like rubbing salt in the wound and that’s why Quinn cut her off.
Then Shelby dangles a carrot in front of her only to take it away so Quinn does what she does best when she is upset she gets angry and that’s why she said what she said.

quinn was clearly depressed and unmotivated here and everyone just treated it like "unecessary rebelious teen drama" and, instead of helping her, demanded she cleaned up her act. she had every fucking right to see her child.

They all had been helping her four two years, then she goes off smoking, drinking, skipping school blaming everyone else. It was her own fault. If she wanted to see her daughter, the adoptive mother has the right to refuse until the child is 16. So she was completely justified.

I'm probably gonna get so much hate saying this but I really can't stand Quinn in the 3rd season. I really can't. I'm not fam of Quinn in any of the seasons really, but 3rd season is where it really gets bad. Yes, I know she's dealing with ALOT of mental health issues and I'm not excusing that, but it doesn't give her a reason to treat people like crap. That's like saying a bully who is getting picked on at home, makes it okay for them to bully at school. It's not okay, it just a reason why they bully. Everyone really tired to help Quinn. Even Shelby asked if she was okay cause she knew that under that pink hair, and dark eyeliner, there is a little hurt girl under there. And all Quinn does is insult and make her feel as bad as Quinn feels. Quinn signed those paper, Beth belongs to Shelby now, and Shelby is even offering for Quinn to see her, which most adopted parents won't do. But Quinn decides to plant DRUGS in the women's house to make her seem like an unfit mother!? That is inexcusable! Quinn is just a unforgivable mean person to the people who she who is trying to help her. Like Rachel, Shue, Sam even, and she backstabbed them for no real reason! I just think Quinn just needed YEARS a therapy! Loll!

The truth is is that I kinda see Quinn's side of this. She felt tormented, because as soon as the idea of seeing her daughter is brought up, she is immediately told to change, because Shelby doesn't like it.Beth didn't want her to change Puck don't want her to change, Shelby was the one in her face. Its pretty obvious that Quinn was like that because she wanted to change in order for her problems to leave her alone, but in her mind her problems (namely shelby) come back anyway. So yeah it is kinda tormenting to think about. So you can't blame her for grasping at straws and pointed out the one technicality, which is the simple fact that she is the biological mother. The truth is is that she didn't really want Shelby and Shelby can't exactly tell her what to do.

i absolutely love Quinn, and i hate how the producers and directors just dropped her after like season 4, but this scene makes me so mad. Shelby tells Quinn that she wants her to get to know Beth, but once Quinn actually gets her shit together, Shelby doesn’t want her around Beth anymore. breaks my heart for both her and Puck

stop with this bullshit! ”they will always have a connection because she carried her in her body for nine months blablabla” that is complete bullshit. There is no deeper connection there, its not some spiritual experience, that is how child is born. So stop with this spiritual blablabla. Quinn has no rights when it comes to Beth. She gave her away and was aware what it meant for her and Beth, if she did. She doesnt get to call herself a mom, because she isnt one. She doesnt have kids, she made sure of that the second she gave all parental rights to Shelby. There is no other way to put it. That is the truth and you can argue about it as much as you want, but there is no changing that. She did that to herself, and its time for Quinn to learn that you cant always get what you want and that there is consequenses to everything you do.
