In this video I show you around the Neumann MT 48 audio interface including its features, the touch screen, onboard effects, and everything that makes this interface so cool. I also demo a song I recorded using the MT 48 and the Neumann U87 microphone. This is the first audio interface from Neumann, and the specs are pretty incredible including a dynamic range of 136dB and AD/DA conversion from Merging Technologies.

The interface paired with the U87 mic sounds smooth and in your face. Just hearing how clean the raw vocals are, is very impressive. Makes me want to jump back to recording.
Great job Sanjay. It’s funny that I’ve watched a couple videos on the MT, and this is the first time I’ve understood the practical reasons why it’s a solid choice (maybe not for budget people) for someone who wants a compact high end setup.
👏🏾
Its Noir!!! What's up man! Love your videos! Big fan! Thanks for the compliment!
Expensive, yes. The only use case I can think off is outboard pre processing of everything connected to the Neumann MT 48 (Vocals, guitars, bass, whatever)and than route it to some other unit. . I really doubt you can truly use it like Sanjay stated.
I Just made a video about this last week! Im glad you emphasized the dynamic range. It's amazing. Ciao!
I need one. I’ve been rocking my Komplete interface since 2015. Thank you for this video
Sounds gorgeous. Nothing less to be expected from Neumann. However - I would expect that for that price you get at least 8 channels/independent inputs. Maybe not all with mic in, but 8x line in - for the price tag, in the similar range you can find Apollo, RME etc. Amazing device for a composer/songwriter, but not so much for the multitracking studio.
As long as people fall for every marketing technique there is and thus pay those high prices, companies will keep charging them.
Getting back to watching ur videos on a regular basis after i decided i wanted a career change , now saving up n waiting to pursue a degree in music production
@SanjayC Great video as always. I wonder how it compares to the universal audio interfaces. Looks like all they need now is their own recording software to be complete. 👍🏿💯
The MT48 is a piece of equipment that very simply does what you expect it to do. I just wanted a plug and play mobile setup to track and mix outside of my full blown studio. I plugged the MT 48 into my Macbook Pro and away I went. Very little trouble shooting and little need to refer to the manual. The preamps are beyond "good enough" and the dynamic range is a big plus and gives a person more latitude when adjusting gain levels. The EQ is very surgical as is the dynamics. You can print both raw and track with effects. The reverb is okay for tracking ambience but won't print. This is a great quality tool that in and off itself adds no modeled/fake mojo. If you have good mics with character you will appreciate them with this box. You will get clean tracks that you mix to taste and bring out the best of your DAW or analog console. Plain and simple-- clean preamps and prints. If you do a deep dive this box will do a whole lot more. I just don't need more. When I am on the go, I want to just plug and play if I am inspired.
Has an extremely warm and rounded sound very typical of Neumann. Brilliant review
Thank you for the complete and detailed description of the MT 48 interface. I loved listening to your song. What an amazing voice!
I appreciate that so much
more headroom than the apollo x4, the pre amps are louder, and the “snaps” feature makes working in the mt48 quick.
I can’t recommend it enough, has been my favorite desktop interface.
Yup...for a desktop interface its sick!
Thank you for this awesome video Sanjay! I would love to see a video with your all Neumann gear. 😊
Nice vocals Sanjay! Keep it up!! 👍
Thanks so much!
Wow, looks and sounds fantastic. I'd love to see a video re: the all-Neumann studio you've got set up.
OK...you've got it!
I really like that you make music as well as review gear. Happy Xmas.
This is really tempting to make the jump to. I think a missed opportunity for Neumann is not adding functionality for the MA-1 Software to implement frequency response curves to the output of the interface. I'd love to be able to use MA-1 to tune my Genelecs along with my Neumann KH80s, but for now I need to use Sonarworks to do so.
Get the merging technologies anubis. You can do that. Nuemann only take other companies products and rebrand them. Nuemann are not a very good company, merging are the best. Since I got my 1st anubis, they have constantly upgraded and developed. Same with their software. I've lost count of the number of times they have added a function that is a game changer, for free and casually mentioned it. A while ago I was getting ready to order more anubis because I needed more outputs, then they added a function where you can switch the headphone outs to either 2 more balanced outs or 4 unbalanced. They did themselves out of sales to improve the product for existing customers. What other company would do that?
Solo vocal sounded so good too! I want this interface- on my dream list now.
😍❤️🔥🎶I loooove how you sang this song. How you made “Always Be My Baby” your song is just SO YOU! You have the ability to make songs as if they were originally yours and that’s such a special gift! Thank you for this and thank you for throwing me into the nostalgic period which were school dances! 😅 woah!
Yes...bring on the nostalgia! Thanks, babe!
Thx for all of this 🖤
YES! Do a video about this Neumann setup! Please! 😎
The studio monitors...loving them. OK, I'll do a full vid on the setup
@@SanjayC I am looking for really great WHITE monitors for my almost complete white colored home studio. Yamaha HS7 lost against Adam T7V in my comparison. I did not buy them yet.
Now I saw your video and heard these Neumann monitors over my JBL monitors and totally got flashed! Neumann KH 150 WH?
There is an huge budget gap between the T7V and the KH 150 WH, but I believe the money is worth it and I am thinking about saving some money for a few month and doing me a great favor - You agree, @SanjayC?
Thanks Sanjay . I am waiting for mine since past month. They are really in high demand and short in supply in UK.
Incredible video quality
Great video Sanjay! Was thinking about trying this one out. Hows the latency? I have an apogee symphony desktop (which probably rivals the MT48) and apollo x4. The symphony sounds better but I still use the Apollo 90 percent of the time because of the super low latency workflow. I know MT48 has DSP but not with autotune like Apollo.
Hey Jack. I didn't do a latency test and I don't see an official statement from them on latency. I'll try find out
@@SanjayC Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it! Seems like a great interface though. I wonder how it compares to the symphony desktop
Legit never knew you had such a good voice! Go off!
Awesome review Sanjay! What a cool interface.
Thanks so much buddy!
Road to 500k 🎉🙌🏽
Beautiful cover of Always be my Baby, Sanjay. 👌🏾 Love that piano arp. And what a classy, all Neumann, set up! Love the look of those monitors. This video had some nice eye and ear candy, for the holidays.
Merry Christmas

@@Only1Dharti ☮and 💌 to you as well, Dharti. 🙏
Thanks so much...truly appreciate the kind words.
Great video as always, just curiosity here: why do you use the NDH 30 when recording when is also have the closedback NDH 20?
Didn’t even start watching and I left a like; I know the video is gonna be awesome.
You're too kind!
Wearing the open backs during the vocal recording! Nice! 👍🏻.
I see what you did there. 😀
Smart. 👍🏻
The singing! 🙌
Thanks a lot :-)
Best commercial for Neumann
Just in time to ask one for Christmas! 😀
If I got this in my stocking 🤯
Looks like an amazing piece of gear, but hardly suited for the avg home studio (pricewise), so I'll stick to my Focusrite Scarlet 4i4 (3rd gen) for now. Thanks for the informative video, Sanjay! Wishing you a lovely festive season! Fondly, Michael 😊🎄
I agree!! I have the 4i4 (3rd gen) also, and I absolutely love it. 😁❤
Smart man.
Same to you...Hope you enjoy the holidays!
lol it’s not that expensive.. what you guys doing with your lives that it’s unaffordable
@@eyeque7buying equipment. Awesome he gets it sponsored and sent for free to review. It’s a nice piece of equipment but I can definitely purchase other equipment for that price. Business brands are smart going through CZcamsrs. If you want to sell your brand. Follow this guidelines the mass follow like sheep. On the same note, I’m still glad the brands do this to see what out and new. I think a real raw gritty review would be done from a individual that purchased with personal funds. But then it wouldn’t be a review at all. lol dope content though.
Great singing👍
Thanks so much !!
I wonder how it compares to an Apogee Symphony Desktop? Would the difference in sound quality be that dramatic?
sounds ok but it does gets really hot. when we try to jam with all the I/o's overheating becomes an issue. Did you try to use all i/o at same time and have signal input (mics/lines) standard same as amultitrack recording?
Had my eye on it for a while.
Me too...this is one of those things I really wanted to maintain the quality of the other gear I've been using.
You have done a great job putting together an all Neuman studio, which is a German company that also made vinyl record cutting lathes, that pretty much every record you heard has cut on that, the only thing missing is in your studio to make it all German is to switch to Cubase or Bitwig. Abelton just does something to audio that is not pleasant. Cubase is very open system and with that killer set up, you going to be blown away. Love your channel, I am so glad you reviewing this converter, people need to know about sound, just look at the chaos Akai MPC has caused with the poor converters on their sampler machines. Thank You!
Ableton is German, and just like any other modern day DAW has no unpleasant effect on audio
Abelton has very poor audio engine for rendering, time stretching, its basically a live triggering daw. Start working with massive files upload it original and abelton and then we can show you the difference.@@cuevable
@@dubmaverick69 maybe 20 years ago, nowadays you are simply wrong.
@@cuevable I am sorry brother, make a test and publish it online, then we can have a healthy discussion until then facts are facts! Happy New Year!
@@dubmaverick69 just like you were wrong on Ableton not being German you are wrong on this. That is a fact and the thousands of professional producers using Ableton Live proves that, download the demo and try it yourself instead of talking based on prejudice, brother
Two things. First, this interface looks amazing.
Second, not only does Presonus have end to end in the manner that you were discussing, but Presonus’s DAW Studio One has slowly aged into a formidable, extremely powerful beast. That said, if I had to choose between a U87 and a Revelator I’d definitely choose the Revelator, but like any good engineer I could find a way to make the Revelator work :)
How would you compare it to the apogee symphony desktop? Could you do a video comparison down the road?
Thanks for the great video SanjayC! Love the Christmas throwback ❤
Christmas? You may be thinking of the Mariah Christmas song which is different. But thanks! :-D
@@SanjayC ahh my bad. Love the song you sang! Need to hear you sing more often in your videos!!
great job Sanjay as always. can you compare it to apogee symphony desktop ?
Thanx for the vid! RME UFX for routing, UAD Apollo for FX. MT48 is weird interfac, interesting feature but clunky GUI and lack of ins/outs.
Neumann makes mistake cooperating with Merging, the initial device was weird.
Thanks Sanjay, I would really like this for my set up which is based around a Mac Pro which only has USB-A and Firewire... can it work with Firewire and be powered by USB-A do you think?
That is one sexy looking interface 😍 Would you say the sound is on par with Apollo interfaces?
Thanks so much for the Super Thanks Acee! I think the sound is a level up to my ears.
is it better peeamps compared to apogee symphony desktop??
quality of your audio is next level, recorded using the MT48 and the U87?
So I'm gonna need the full version of your “Always Be My Baby” cover like asap LOL
Haha...thanks so much :-) I certainly can't do it like Mariah, but I can give you my take!
I love this interface, but I‘m hesitant/sceptical about the fan.
I tried a Merging Technologies Anubis in my booth and absolutely fell in love with the sound and the whole build of this interface - but as I need the interface to be in my booth for my voiceover work, the fans kicked in. A no go for my recordings. If it didn’t have a fan, I‘d probably buy it sooner or later just because this looks even nicer than the Anubis feature-wise.
Hey i have the Mt 48 and do voice over in a studiobricks. I will tell you, you can't hear the fan , not even if you take your head all the way down to the fan hole. I do love mine mt 48 but it is not so stable in Windows you have to use the Mad software if you wanted to use different IO in software like in chrome and everything like that aka source connect now. I have asked Neumann to make the possible to have more like IO in the windows sound panel if you use the usb and not the rj 45 port
I'd like a video about a full Neumann studio!
OK...let me start working on that :-D
What will be better for a home studio ? ADAM A4V or Neumann KH120/KH120mk 2 ?
Probably one of the best interfaces out there, but we know Neumann has only got high quality products. 👍🏻💪🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
Yeah, I think it was a good move for them to do something with Merging for that reason
It's just a rebrand product yet again. Nuemann don't really do much actually.
Kindly suggest to my studio apollo twin x or mt 48
Nice Interface for sure🔥🔥🔥....with all these premium features it would makes more sense to have feature to transfer screen control to an Ipad or Tablet
How about a Surface Pro then? That should work nicely. If you're in the market for a two microphone interface that costs nearly $2K, the cost is unlikely to be an issue.
Just saw the MT48 at NAB. VERY IMPRESSIVE at a very Neumann price. But I'm thinking it's worth the stretch from UA.
$1800.
Blown away by your singing for the first time till now (TT)(TT)
Thanks so much!
Hmmm.how does it compete with my RMe ucx 2? As far as convertors!
would love to see a vedio on the setup in this vedio
OK! The people have spoken!
Are you using a new camera? The image quality is absolutely pristine in this video.
Would you be able to connect a DANTE equipped desk to that data port?
Does it have EQ settings/functions like the RME ADI 2?
I would love an interface with solid hardware volume setting for output 1,2,3 and 4 (or in couples). This one seems to have that. But it costs 2 k... Yes, quality, no doubt. But not for amateurs.
More audio interfaces need to have easily switchable knobs
@@SanjayC Fully agreed
Hi! Hi can you compared this interface with Apogee Duet 3, Audient id24 and Arturia AudioFuse gen 2? Especially in quality of preamps and converters. And headphones sound.
this thing obviously destroys them, but they are all more than 'good enough' for home usage
It's about time this brand made this type of product. I knew of but had forgotten of how many different amazing microphones they had. Didn't know about the speakers at all.
Being almost impossible to clip is mind blowing.
The way this review is put together is perfect 🤌🏾
I already have an RME PCIe sound card I like. Something like the MT 48 would be useful to me if it can operate in a stand alone mode, where I'm using its converters and headphone amps, but connects to the computer only through ADAT. The built-in OS, DSP, and touch screen seems well-designed. Not a fan of fans, though.
Wow. I’ve never talked about this interface so now I feel depressed that I’m not considered “everybody”. I feel so isolated. So isolated that I wish I had this interface to record some sad songs with. Hit me up and you’ll hear what I’m talking about.
(Thx for another informative and easy to watch video - truly appreciated).
LOL. Always welcome
Hey bro I mm experiencing a litte latency is like a mili second of latency when I record in my daw pro tools. Do you know what that might be? I hear myself late like an echo.
Do a video on your neuman studio please thanks!
I will. FYI, I've been loving the studio monitors!
San tell me, apollo twin x or neumann mt48????
I want the toy robot next to the MT 48 😃
Personus probably had everything end-to-end but that said - I wouldn’t consider them to have end-to-end pro gear to the level Nuemann just completed. Just got this interface- crazy good.
Presonus makes everything in the audio chain as well. High quality & amazingly inexpensively. Their $99 monitors sound fantastic! Neumann’s gear is designed & built like a fine watch. Elegant!!
That statement is even truer than you may know as the finest watches are Swiss made and so is the MT48.
Agreed
Why do the raw vocals still have Melodyne/Autotune?
To be honest I don't know what this device is aiming at. It seems limited even expanded with ADAT given its price point. Its not a monitor controller due to its lack of analog i.o.? Can it digitally control Neuman's high end monitors given its AES67 interface? I believe their digital interface in their high-end monitor is AES3, S/P-DIF. The midi interface seems to scarifies two audio inputs? I am a Neuman fan, but I wonder to whom your talking addressing the MT 48 as the next best thing. It's limited even for a one-man-band. In short the MT 48 looks like repurposed studio gear. O ja, one more thing. A fan, a fan in an audio unit really?. Why does it run hot? And finally, ok as a device it's a beauty. :))
The price is absolutely insane in comparison to what's out there.
Not really. It's in the same price range as RME UCX2 and Apollo Twin X Quad. I would say that it's a fair price given the quality of conversion, preamps and features.
Its not cheap, but knowing the level of quality tech in this thing, makes me feel like its priced appropriately.
@@henrikpetersson3463 I guess it all depends where in the world you stay. I'm based in South Africa and here it's very expensive.
@@mass-1128 I’m not saying it’s cheap. That kind of money is a serious investment for me. But compared to what’s out there with the same quality it’s a fair price.
But of course it’s more than a Scarlett or even an Audient ID. Is it worth it? It depends on what you value and what you can afford.
@@henrikpetersson3463 at some point you just have to ask yourself as the average Joe... does it really matter and do I really need this? Sure if Adele, Katie Melua, ... or some top producers do want to have a smaller more portable setup maybe in their living room or on the road with the best possible quality, sure, they make a living doing this and they can surely afford it without a sweat... but for that kind of money, I can get other things that would impactfully improve my musical output in terms of quality, creativity, and accessibility and most consumer-grade gear these days is good enough to produce music that is played and regarded as good even in the Top10. At this point, we all know that consumers are usually idiots and I do not think that this Neumann MT48 is not worth the money, but the target audience (people who would really benefit from this level of quality) is just very very niche... If they would have a smaller version with a nice built-in headphone amp... that would make the additional headphone amp obsolete, we might have a winner for a broader audience. all I can say looking at this fine piece of gear is that it surely sucks to be the average Joe;)
You don’t feel the combo inputs compromise the quality of the conversion?
So nice to hear that, man!!! Good luck with it. I'm cheering you on!
@@SanjayC wrong person I think…
Can you still get Neve pre ?
when will we see Neumann MT 48 vs Apollo X4 ???
Please 🙏🏻 do a review of an all Neumann studio 👍
It's a great sounding interface. I was considering it for a while but went with the Apollo X4 instead. While the MT48 has better conversion, the Apollo X4 has more preamps and much more useful DSP, with really good conversion still. Plus you got a Sphere LX for free at the current promo.
The instrument inputs have pre amps, you missed on a sweet piece of gear. I use it all the time
@@khalilsmith6991 The Apollo X4 suits my needs better and I can't afford both so. But yes, it's sweet. And so is the Apollo.☺ I'm glad you're happy with your MT48!
buy an EVO SP8 if you need more pres
@@officialdiomer Why is it so hard to accept that the Apollo X4 meets my requirements better?
I’ve used a Twin for 9 years and I have an external ADAT preamp for it. The thing is that I find myself using 2-4 preamps most of the time and having that in one single box is really handy as my rig is portable. No need to lug around and hook up a second box just to get the 1-2 extra pres I need.
Plus, the converters in the MT48 is of no use with the EVO as the conversion happens before the MT48.
@@henrikpetersson3463 my comment was more in general in case anyone is trying to decide between the two, but would want more preamps. i have an Apollo Twin. i’m glad your X4 works better for you
it seems very appealing, but what about - after years of usage;
will the screen get buggy? etc
how will their customer support be, then?
real questions.
True, you should always consider that...but I think we have to deal with that with all gear these days...even analog gear.
I've had an anubis (which this is a rebrand version) since they came out several years ago. It still all works fine. Personally I think Neumann are a pretty terrible company, merging technologies on the other hand are the best company in the business. Great guys that work there to. Never encountered a company that are so helpful and considerate to their customers. Now I wouldn't consider using anyone else's products, I have complete faith in them. They built things to last, I'm sure the Neumann version will be the same, you just won't have the same level of support. Go with merging, you'll never look back.
Doesn’t Presonus have end-to-end as well?
Yes they do...albeit at a different level.
Sanjay, while being in a different class and quality level... Doesn't Presonus ALSO offer "entire signal chain" offerings?
True...PreSonus also does end to end, but at a different level in my humble opinion.
@@SanjayC certainly different levels between them, Brother. I could not agree more.
behringer has it all from mic to monitors and interface
haha lol. but not same quality
Maybe they'll come out with a BT 48 soon and price it $100 less! 😆
Im out here working with grammy award winning artists, producing platinum records with my Focusrite 2i4 lol.
That's great. Ultimately, its all about the music you make with any of this gear.
I know it is wrong to lust, but it would almost be wrong not to lust after this little box! :)
That's what I did for weeks before I got this one!
Does it have daw control?
Would be dope if it did. Like a mode.
No it doesn't at the moment....I would want something with more buttons and knobs for DAW control though
@@SanjayC fair point
I’d love to have one of these, but to have it I’d have to sell a kidney 😂
Solo focusrite gen 4 or the clarett

Doesn’t Mackie offer a full chain?

Exactly, I left a few replies on here. Urge everyone to go with the anubis. Apart from everything else, we should support the amazing company doing the innovation and development, not Neumann, who yet again are selling a version of another companies product.
looks great for 400 bucks.
I’m good with the RME Babyface Pro FS…it’s just solid! People are sleeping on quality and reliability they’re only focused on features that aren’t important on an interface like this one. RME is like Toyota and the Neumann it’s like Mercedes
My babyface pro is starting to screw up :( it’s crackling, crashing the daw, just doing random weird things. My previous babyface did the same and then it died. So I think this one will do the same. MT48 here I come?
I'm looking to upgrade. What's missing from the Neumann MT 48 and why should I buy this over the Universal Audio Apollo X6?
