The way Ella was in awe of the Queen is the same way I feel about Ella. I saw her in concert and I couldn’t take my eyes off her.

My mom also saw her live too, when she was in college sometime in the mid to late 80’s or early 90’s. She said that Ella Fitzgerald was one of the best live performers she had ever seen, and she still had such a compelling voice in her 70’s or 80’s.

I love Ella's ability to appreciate other musicians and singers. Sarah Vaughan gave Ella a run for her money as best Jazz vocalist of that era, but there never seemed to be any real tension or competition; only admiration. I think that kind of attitude is why there was room for such great and diverse artists that each brought something unique to the table.

Such a sweet, inherently shy woman who only really came alive when she was singing.

This lady, I know she's in heaven. So humble. I can't believe she said I'm just good. I know she is being humble but no one could touch Ella Fitzgerald when it comes to jazz singing and scatting.. No one. She is and was a goddess.

There should have been far more interviews of Ella Fitzgerald who was modest and real. The interview was so much more interesting when the conversation started and she just let Ella comment on her dresses, etc.
There was still so much over-craft for clarity in reporting attached to the formalities of presentation that sounds so stiff and deeply dated today but also even in the 80s.
Congratulations to Bobbie Wygant for having a long life and for putting these full engagements with who she interviewed for anyone interested. It can serve to give another insight to those times, artists and personalities.
It's just a shame that Ms. Wygant had to insert an opinion that was not of Ella Fitzgerald's political sensibilities which were discreet but still there when she said "very nice" regarding Reagan but wanted to check the facts over Carter inviting Ella Fitzgerald to see the queen. Ella Fitzgerald was truly a lady who loved everyone just as she wished to be seen.

To Be Fair, Ella was actually a painfully shy introvert in public, which was why she didn’t give as many interviews as she did.

Still my NO. 1 GODDESS.... for LIFE! The master of scatting! I speak in present tense because no one will ever be able to catch her, just like Django Reinhardt. I learned how to scat because of her. Attention jazz singers......if you want a master class in scatting you MUST watch the 1969 Montreux Jazz Festival live performance of "One Note Samba". You'll either be encouraged or discouraged, LOL! My vocal queen, thank you for gracing the planet with your presence and leaving your legacy for all of us to learn from you in order to keep jazz alive and breathing. I know you're swingin' wherever you are. With love, Nam Myoho Renge Kyo 🙏🏼🎙🎶
