    I'm just at the point of begging and whining to my wife about getting a bike. I'm 50 father of 10 and I am firmly in my mid life crisis. I want an easy bike for a beginner but one that can do mild off road. That quest led me to the 310GS and this video really helped THANKS

    On the day of delivery, I took my G310GS on a 250km ride on both road and gravel roads in the Appalachian Mountains. What a bike! It carves on the twisties and shreds on gravel roads, as well. It is the perfect beginner Adventure bike.

    I REALLY appreciate this review for testing and relaying what the bike is and not constantly bemoaning what you wish the bike would be. I’m looking at one of these after being off bikes for a few years and need something that can go on a hitch carrier. Most 250cc dual-sports don’t seem to be as capable on the road and honestly, it’s not like I’m roosting and tackling moguls. I really just want a bike to go trail riding and fire road exploring. Thanks for the honest review and explaining the capabilities of the bike as it sits. Great info!!!

    Great review. The terrain in the video is the most technical I want to do now that I'm in my 60s. I plan to ride back roads, then gravel or dirt roads as shown in this video, and maybe very easy short off road sections. Strap a 55 litre roll top waterproof backpack onto the pillion and rear rack, with 30 pounds of camping equipment and a 7 pound tool roll. The baby GS is perfect for that. The soft suspension requiring slow and steady in rough terrain is perfect for my riding style. I wish it had a 6 gallon fuel tank instead of a 3 gallon tank, but otherwise, ideal for my use with a few aftermarket upgrades.

      @@chiefenumclaw7960 - I bought the 2019 G310GS brand new in late fall of 2020, as the 2021 models were coming out, so BMW came down $1000 and the dealer came down another $400 to get the bike off the showroom floor in late October. I only have a couple of months remaining on the three year factory warranty, which I haven't used at all. It's been a great bike. I've taken many long day trips of 200-350 miles and I ride it around town a bit. I've taken it camping but I need to do a lot more of that including multi-day trips. The waterproof roll top duffel on the rear rack and pillion is 66L instead of the 55L typo in my original post, but otherwise everything I stated before has held up the last couple of years.
      I love the baby GS. Based on the number I'm seeing and the fact that BMW doesn't seem to be promoting it at all, I conclude that the G310GS is a big seller for BMW Motorrad. I wish they'd introduce an upscale G310GS Adventure with a 5 gallon fuel tank, aluminum bash plate, engine protection bars, larger and more aggressive off road foot pegs, tubeless spoke wheels, and maybe some common add-ons such as a dual high current USB charging port, windshield, folding mirrors, hand protecting brush guards, heated grips, larger foot on the kickstand, etc. Of all of my wish list, the larger fuel tank was the only thing I was unable to find in the after market, although I kept the original alloy wheels which are fine for the old man riding that I do.

      @@Liberty4Ever Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm trying to decide between a Royal Enfield Himalayan, baby GS, or KTM 390 Adventure. They're all within 1-2(k) dollars of each other here in the States.
      If the BMW had even half of the features you mentioned it would be an easy choice. I think it's the best looking bike in its class.
      I hope you find the time to do some multi-day camping trips that you spoke of. Safe travels, friend.

    • @Liberty4Ever
      @Liberty4Ever Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@chiefenumclaw7960 - The Royal Enfield Himalayan, KTM 390 Adventure and BMW G310GS were my list three years ago as well. I'd say they're all good bikes, and good for the riding I do. The 390 has more power (it's Race Ready 🙂) and the Himalayan has low end torque for the off road tractor factor. It's difficult to know what to choose no matter how many CZcams videos you watch and how long you work on a comparison spreadsheet. The esoteric factors are most of the equation and the only way to really know is to ride them for a while and see what works for you. I'm very pleased with my G310GS choice, even though it was largely luck that I chose it. The local dealer only stocked the off road KTM bikes. I got the feeling they had a deal with their reps from Suzuki and Yamaha. At the time, the Himalayan was allocated and they actually had a US drawing to determine who'd get to purchase the next boatload of Himalayan motorcycles. Those factors emotionally made my determination. There's no BMW Motorrad dealer in town and the dealer 75 miles away is frankly terrible. Many of us marvel that BMW hasn't revoked their dealership. In the end, I called 12 dealers in the eastern US that were advertising the G310GS online and asked for their best out the door price for one in Cosmic Black. They hate it when you do that and they don't like to play that game but it was late October and they were hungry and not wanting the inventory at the end of their fiscal year to avoid paying tax on it.

      well, for the same price i'd buy a crf250L rally and farkle it with a lightweight exhaust and the 305 takegawa kit and it'll be still be cheaper, and better everywhere - off road / on road. Not to mention that it will also be 40lbs lighter fully tanked up. Infact it'll be better than a rally raid kit too. true story.

    • @coyote102076
      @coyote102076 Před 6 lety +5

      " True story" ??? *Bro, I seriously want to know where you can buy a 2018 CRF250L Rally with ABS for $4,995!!* I priced a CRF250L Rally ABS, the Versey X300, and the BMW G310GS before I bought the GS last month. The *CHEAPEST* 2018 CRF250L Rally-ABS within 250 miles is $5,879
      The 305 takegawa kit is $575 plus install. Lets say you are a mechanic and install it yourself so I wont price the labor to install it. The best price I have found on a aftermarket exhaust for the CRF250's is right at $400 shipped. So just in parts alone you have spent $975 on the Honda. As for the farkles, BRAND does not matter much. The *cost* for windscreens, pannier racks, panniers, tank bags, engine guards, all that crap it all costs roughly the same brand to brand.
      I love the Honda. Hell I still have a HONDA decal on the back window of my Jeeplet. My first dirt bike was a 1984 Honda, my first dual sport was a Honda XL185, my first street legal bike was a Honda Rebel, my first full size touring scooter was a Honda Helix, I have also owned a 600cc 2009 Honda FSC600 Silverwing scooter, bought a brand new 2015 CB300F, LOVED my little CRF230L, bought a brand new 2016 Honda Grom ( impulse buy, sold it 4 months later). I somewhat restored a 1981 Honda GL500 Interstate back last year.
      The CRF230L, Helix, Silverwing scooter, GROM, GL500 are all on my channel.
      I say that to stress I am NOT hating on the CRF250L. I love them and they are undeniably for a flat fact better off road, but a better touring bike on road, that part we will just have to agree to strongly disagree on. Watching every single available review on the 3 bikes (X300, CRF, 310GS) and reading many articles, there is a constant repeating outcome on almost every review. The CRF is the best off road, the Versys X300 is the best at interstate speeds for extended lengths of time, and the G310GS sits right in the middle doing BOTH really well. At the end of the day though, the *AWESOME* thing is these new bikes are so damn good you simply cant go wrong with any of them! Buy what suits your taste / riding style and be happy!

      Dude, a most excellent response in context and substance. The small ADV market is a compromise no matter how you slice it. To me, it revolves around the question: how much time am I going to be riding off-road and how technical is it likely to be? Riding a BDR or TAT or the RMATVMC Battle Born Nevada series will dictate your choice of bike, IMHO. Appreciate your final thought.

      Thanks for the feedback Ed! This shake down is intended to test the limits of the bike in the dirt so that potential buyers can better understand its capabilities before making a purchase. This little ADV bike lets you venture off the pavement for light offroad work and can be a lot of fun if ridden within its limits. Not everybody that wanders offroad wants to do gnarly or technical stuff and, in addition to its wallet-friendly price, this bike offers many appealing features to some including its low seat height and its less intimidating and predictable handling offroad . Obviously if someone wants a dirtbike that means they don't ride on the street and don't care for a street legal bike to begin with. In addition if somebody wants something for serious offroad riding this is not the bike for that purpose, as we pointed out.
