As always i am amazed by the quality of your work and designs. Your are with out dought my favourite paper terrain designer. Keep up the fantastic work.
Bloody nice! I used pictures of coin piles that I could find on the net back in the days of yore, reduced to suitable size, and just glued them pretty much onto a piece of cereal box, cut to shape and laid it on the battle mat when needed, just for colour. As usual, you've gone that better step further that I honestly never thought of, let alone all of the 3D props to stick on the pile! Thank you once again, absolutely brilliant... as usual.
No probs. (though you could probably do the same thing with this coin texture - you know, if you wanted a room full of coins that your players could walk on top of, and then just make a few small piles for the corners).
@@CrookedStaffTerrain I once bought largish 'kit' D&D dungeon from some mainstream model car and plane manufacturer, I don't think it was Monogram, but it could have been, or one like it (the same mod that did the mini Star Wars piece with vacuum formed Hoth and walkers that stood maybe 2" tall, and tiny tiny little rebels and storm troopers and those rebel combat speeders). The dungeon was vacuum formed and with little effort, painted up nicely and was a good little 'dungeon room' section, if not a bit fragile. There were a party of the usual heroes in plastic in true 25mm scale from memory, and some orcs and other plastic MM monsters as well as dungeon dressing like skulls, rats, snakes, and working doors, one of which was barred, that clipped into the base. One of the dressings was a plastic treasure pile that painted up pretty well for what it was. I stopped doing the 1D printed treasure piles when I got that and it was the only bit I ever really used in my games after a while as I had white metal minis that I preferred, so I gave all of it to my son as a playset, except for that treasure pile. I kept that, he had to use the old printed version. :P You know, I wish this dungeon terrain was around back then, it would have been a great project to work on with my kids before they grew up. I hope some of your fans actually do that as I know my kids were so hands on with helping dad out. I think the idea of that makes me like this project even more.
@@TheMrRoc Yeah, I also wish this kinda thing was available when I was a kid ...I imagine that my young teenage self would have been a bit obsessed with making 'all the dungeons!!!' :) Thinking about it - I probably haven'y changed all that much over the years :D :D :D
Another great terrain piece. When I saw the piece at first, I knew you had used a very small hole punch to make some of the coins. Course the reason I knew that is because I have one as well, which I've used for making rivets on models. 🙂
Yeah, it's a handy little tool (even though I don't normally like to use anything special, I figured it wouldn't hurt to try something new every once in a while :) ).
I really like all forms of 3d terrain and building stuff for games. But your 2.5D is really one of the most fun! Easy and with really good results. Fast and inspiring. Really great and really appreciated.
These look amazing! I always love seein what you put out. Its really shocking how good your stuff looks especially all together. Love the little details!
Thank you for the fantastic work! Because of you I will be able to start a D&D club for my students. We are in a poor district and this makes it so my students can have a great experience at zero cost. I would like to make a request of a four row rotary dial that my students could use to easily track experience or hit points. Again, thanks for the fantastic work you do!!!!
No problem. I know the feeling of not having much of a budget for all the cool DnD terrain and accessories that you see folks use in their games (as well as the space to store it all) - and that's part of the reason for me doing the things I do :) So, here's hoping they have fun with some of this stuff! (as well as D&D in general).
The treasure piles look so good! They would be the perfect scatter terrain for a Dragon den! (You could possibly even make tiles with the coin texture for the floor of a large horde, but that might be a bit crazy, lol) Great job on the video 🤑
Great stuff Kris. Your ideas just get better and better. Not only does the extra detail make it pop, but I know a couple of adventures that would love to find that pile while dungeon delving :)
Wow! You have more details on your small little armour than I had on my outfit last time I was a knight on a masquerade! Also, the treasure is just golden! (Hah, see what I did there?)
Do you know those moments, when you could swear, not to have breathed, but everything light enough on your desk is blown away? A paper dragon at your working space can really be a curse. And perhaps he can blow very strong, if he wants to. There is a childrens story from the 80s using the fact, that the german word "Blatt" means a sheet of paper and means a leaf of a tree also. The dragon, who has (without naming the cause) no fire, is responsible for blowing the leafs of the trees, but causes chaos with the papers of a ministry (or is it department?). At the end, like those stories often end, he tries, not to blow away the wrong things. But, I guess, you can make more of it. Windmills operated by an enslaved dragon, who breaks free? A little dragon causing some kind of chaos for some slapstick? A mighty dragon, who is kind of a lord of wind loosing his breath?
Indeed. I mean, I'm happy to make them - but I wasn't sure if they'd be useful for folks that wanted a quick and easy solution (like some of my other stuff).
@@CrookedStaffTerrain Actually when watching the part where you painstakingly added the coins I though it might have been easier to dab spots of glue on the pile, drop a load of the coins over the piece, and brush away the ones that didn't stick? And repeat.
really good looking. you say that is probably better to buy a model, i suppose that if you dont have the time or patience to do it yourself that is true, but having those in your game is double the enjoyment, at least i do apreciate more the miniatures and terrain if i know that they are diy instead of buyed specially if they are detailed, and they have more personality to them. sure there has to be a treasure pile model out there, but everybody can have that one, instead, there is only one person in the world with the particular treasure pile that you just crafted, that at least for me, is important too.
Yeah ...it's just that my usual approach is 'quick, cheap, and easy' ...and I'm not sure this qualifies. They are fun to put together though - so that makes up for it (well, it does for me at least ;) ).
I was already LOVING this build. But then you kicked it up several notches with the TINY COINS. So good! :D I've only just found your channel tonight and have enjoyed several videos already. Forgive me if you've already done this and I've just not found it yet, but I'd love to see how you go about creating the textures you use. Or where you get them from. I was particularly interested in how you scale them correctly. The tiny coins you punched out seemed to be exactly the same size as the ones printed on the pile texture. I'm guessing that took some planning and adjusting in the textures themselves. Would love to learn how you do that.
Hello and welcome aboard! With regard to creating the textures - everything is drawn (digitally) from scratch ...here's a quick example: i.imgur.com/ThCExqU.gifv It does take a while (and I generally scale things so that they 'look about right' rather that fussing over the particulars) - but it works well enough for me :)
I have been watching for quite some time and every vidoe is fantastic! But a curiosity struck me while watching this video. When did you make the latern? That item is brilliant!
Maybe I should put that on the 'pay-what-you-want' page ;) Anyway, the music is called 'Magic Forest' (I always list it in the credits at the end of each video).
If I think I can get away with using hot-glue without making a mess (i.e. there shouldn't be visible blobs sticking out from beneath the piece, or trails or wisps of glue, etc.), I use that (it's also good to use with larger objects - like the shield - as the inner curve needs a decent blob of glue to fill the cavity). Otherwise I'll use PVA (which obviously takes longer to dry - but I can be a bit more precise with its placement).
Just to help myself out, I have been keeping a list for reference purposes. I thought I'd share it here for others.
