    Noooo dont do this unless you plan on using it all within a day or two. Adding water turns it into a bacteria and mold heaven! Im a soap and beauty product maker and the 1st thing you learn is to never add water to anything unless you plan on using a preservative. Thats why i stick to bar soaps and body butters loaded with oils.

      @@ouroilyhouse Mold spores and bacteria cant always be seen with the naked eye, but they start multiplying once water is added. Dr Bronners uses a natural preservative (vit E) but you dont want to dilute it for long term use. Im sure the oils help a tad with the bacteria growth. One way to avoid bad stuff from growing is to make a smaller amount that will be used up quicker.

    • @PrettyPotionsTia
      @PrettyPotionsTia Před 5 lety +6

      Vitamin e isn't a preservative at all, it helps oils from going rancid and smelling bad. It's just an antioxidant. Even if dr bronner's used a preservative in their soap it would be too diluted to help any bacteria and mold from growing once that amount of water was added. Sometimes a preservative can handle maybe a 2% dilution before being inactive. Also, no you would not see the mold and bacteria more than likely but it is in there. Also, Oils do not help a product with water in it from mold and bacteria. An all oil product doesn't need a preservative unless it will be introduced to water like an oil based scrub used in a shower for example. If using water to make products you always use Distilled water never tap or spring water, you heat the water to a boil and hold for 20 minutes to kill off any bacteria that could be in the distilled water. Then you would use your broad spectrum preservative at the proper usage rate and temperature. This product, if put in the fridge, could maybe last for a bit but not long and could be extremely harmful especially if using on children. I have been formulating cosmetics for over 13 years and I don't have a mean bone in my body, I would never comment trying to be mean or hurtful but wanted to maybe help give people some proper information and help into the right and safe direction. If you want an excellent resource for preserving products you can find them at soapqueen.com, lotioncrafter.com, swiftycraftmonkey, wholesalesuppliesplus.com, humble bee and me, and if looking for a more natural preservative I personally feel comfortable with the ones from ingredientstodiefor.com I would definitely recommend reading up about using preservatives as they protect you and your loved ones from some potentially really bad and nasty stuff. I'm coming from TaraLees channel by the way. She might also be a great resource for finding natural preservatives I know she used to use one in some products.
