  • A young high school teacher, Lawrence Onyango Abwao, found his calling in farming after struggling to secure employment. The challenges of traditional farming left him disheartened, yielding low crops and meager returns. However, his fortune shifted after training with the Cereal Growers Association and later with Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA) on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) techniques.
Venturing into diversified farming-maize, beans, groundnuts, onions, sorghum, and banana cultivation, alongside poultry and agroforestry-Lawrence embraced CSA practices like minimum tillage, composting, and certified seed usage. His transformational journey led him to train over 100 farmers, guiding 60 towards Conservation Agriculture adoption.
Through CSA, Lawrence enhanced soil fertility, optimized crop yield, and educated farmers on organic manure's benefits. Networking as a Farmer Service Centre member enabled him to advocate for climate-smart practices, ultimately bolstering community harvests and economic stability. Now, Lawrence envisions a future where organic agriculture thrives, attracting the younger generation to profitable farming practices.
