    A lot of people commenting that the bike is worth more than $600 now are missing the point. This bike is the perfect way to get into cycling and upgrade as you get more funds. Instead of waiting to save $1500+, you can start riding a lot earlier and do the necessary upgrades when you can.

    • @david78212

      Kevin Montgomery well the bike is $100 more now than his original cost... it’s $699 now, not $599 like when it first came out. Not debating a “good deal” or not, just take into consideration the starting point now.

    Things are not designed and built without target market research to minimize risk. Listen closely to what Eric is saying. The cost cut is what's attached to the bike. Use it up or upgrade at the get go paying attention to what matters to YOU. The manufacturer doesn't know YOU . They have to get it out at a price point with some profit yet stand out enough to have a competitive edge. In this case it's the frame set. This is an excellent review /follow up review from a realistic perspective.

      so i've owned my X for a few years now and mostly ride it on rural roads. I upgraded the seat since the stock one is awful in my opinion could be due to my weight because im a taller bigger guy. I recently switched to compressionless brake housing and what a nightmare routing that through the frame..... it wouldn't even route in the front fork due to how thick / hard the housing is from jagwire i had to tape it to the outside of the frame.. but the rear one was a success after alot of fighting. I upgraded pedals finally the stock ones became too lose after two years and also bought a 45 degree short stem to help with neck fatigue so my bars arent as low or far forward. other than that it has been a great bike!

    I've pretty much done the same with my Poseidon x upgraded wheels, stem, clipless pedals, tire combos, Shimano cassette, etc. It's been a great bike and hard to come up with a reason to replace it beyond the usual n+1 affliction. I've even noticed the rear seat stays flatten out as they reach the seatpost which probably helps with vibrations. One thing I miss on this bike is a chainstay bridge to help with mounting fenders but oh well I just run a front fender for now until I figure out a solution lol!

    Excellent. I get your thesis. The bike - as delivered - is an acceptable gateway drug to more serious biking.
    The fact that Poseidon can deliver any rideable bike at that price point is amazing. And let’s be honest. There is NOTHING wrong with Claris. It works.
    I wonder, though, will a newbie rider have enough sophistication to understand that the wheels are crap and an upgrade would improve the ride? Would a novice rider be more inclined to put on a shiny new drive train (assuming it would fit) rather than dropping real money on wheels?
    “Look. My bike has 105!”

    • @bottomowashington
      @bottomowashington Před 4 lety

      i think your right about a newbie rider but this might be alot of peoples second bike. a cheaper one to tinker on and ride in the winter. and i would acctually swap drivetrain as it would allow me to put hydro brakes on wich would be the first thing needed. while wheels do make a massive difference no argument from me there, does it need it? is it a crit bike? id take better brakes and sram apex 11 spd all day, on it at the moment. cheers from BC

    • @ocbrakeless
      @ocbrakeless Před 4 lety +3

      Hey Justin I work for Poseidon and no your warranty is just fine. While we recommend people unfamiliar with bikes have a bike shop install their bike there is nothing that says if you put your bike together that warranty is voided. Warranty covers manufacturer's defect but no user error with installation or improper use. So if you strip a bolt for example that's not a defect in the product that's likely improper installation. Additionally we handle warranty claims on a case by case basis. Each issue is unique to the person and we want to find the fairest way possible to keep you riding so all you ever have to do is email us and let us know what's going on. I hope that clears things up, your warranty is just as good as it always was. Lifetime warranty on the frame and 1 year on the components. Feel free to email us if you ever have any issues. Thanks!

    if Poseidon is as solid as you're saying, you're selling me on that tracklocross frameset. Its the most affordable one on the market that Ive found so far. Soma monstercross, black mountain, Wabi thunder, Squid SO-EZ, Mash, etc all around that 600 dollar mark for a frame.

      @josequilez5449 Před 4 lety

      But all of those frame are gonna be worth every penny at the end of the day if you want enjoyment. Sadly in this industry weight matters. And proper built frames are expensive because proper made tubes are also costly. Plus paint and you got 700 dolars easy invested in each individual frame

    • @josequilez5449
      @josequilez5449 Před 4 lety

      Only replying because this industry is expensive. But you get what you pay for. I would rather know my frame builder in person and have to deal with the real world cost of the labor. The bike has 500 dollars worth of pure materal and labor the extra is the price of keeping a builder in buisness

    • @Max-xl3ml
      @Max-xl3ml Před 4 lety

      @@josequilez5449 I totally agree the frames I listed are all worth the money, personally I prefer steal too (and im happy to pay a premium for good tubes) but most of them are made in southeast asia as well. Im also totally happy to pay a premium for hand made, and especially locally made stuff. But for a backup beater bike I can't justify a build that is gonna equal my current ride. The poseidon is in that range that as a college student I can get into sscx and fixed riding without selling my main whip. Otherwise imma have to stick to that stable of one lifestyle until I'm 30.

    It’s funny you mention compliance, other reviewers beat up on a bike because it’s not compliant in the “right” way. And if it’s not the exact weight they think it should be, they mention how “heavy” it is over and over. Like a “budget” bike is supposed to be light in the first place. They make it seem like it should be under a $1,000 and ride just like a $10,000 bike. They’re not at all realistic about what they’re reviewing.

    No issues with assembly for me czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".

    • @Spindatt
      @Spindatt  Před 4 lety +2

      Final cost doesn’t really matter, it’s a good frameset that is a blank canvas for anyone to build into what they want! You even get to do it all completely piece by piece and stay riding the whole time

    • @MrJonas2255
      @MrJonas2255 Před 4 lety

      Unless you're very specific about what components you want and like to do your own work, you would absolutely be better off buying a better bike at the "final cost" price point. Even more, buy it from your local bike shop and build a relationship with them and they'll have your back if something goes wrong.

    People sure are missing the point of this 1 year review, aren't they? Oh well, that's how it goes, I guess. I remember my first road bike - heavy aluminum POS. But it was all I could afford with cash. And I absolutely fell in love with cycling because of that bike. Thinking that everyone needs to take out a second mortgage to purchase a $2500+ bike to be a cyclist is asenine. And thank God you didn't review a f&kin "e-bike"....
